In November 2023 my check engine light suddenly started flashing, my service parking brake light came on, traction control light came on and service ESC message was on the DIC. Then my truck started running really rough. At the time I was going roughly 10 mph. I took it to the dealership and they found a lifter had failed. My truck was at the dealership for a month. Fast forward to now, February 2025 and today I got the exact same lights appear on my cluster and same message. I was driving approximately 50 mph and my truck felt like there was a lack of power and there was hesitation in the engine.

There is an electrical problem in this vehicle. You can be driving down the road with your high beams on, and they will start flashing. Or they will stop working altogether. Dashboard lights will go out until a restart of the vehicle. ( Speedometer or Tachometer.) The overhead light can just come on driving without you having touched it. The steering wheel controls will stop working. Until you restart the vehicle. The radio has gone out until restart. I have already had to have the transmission replaced in this truck at 24,000 miles. The dealership keeps telling me about these new issues. That unless they find a code. There isn’t a problem. This is not what I paid 62,000 dollars for. The dealer I bought it from is telling me that they will possibly do a buyback. Yet they keep telling me they will get back to me and they don’t. I called the woman who was supposed to call me back. She says she had a family emergency. Chevrolet needs to back their vehicles.

Chevy and GMC pick-ups are having engines blow up because of a problem with the system that makes the pickup go from 8 cylinder to 4 cylinder. This needs to be looked into immediately. Chevy has taken no action/responsibility to alert people that this is a problem with their vehicles. At the advice of our mechanic, we purchased something that completely turns off the active fuel management or multiple displacement system. This is an almost certain problem waiting to happen. Chevy should be notifying people of the problem and offering to pay for the fix. Or maybe a recall should be issued. Please look into this.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the contact heard an abnormal popping sound coming from the engine. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and determined that the cylinder #6 exhaust lifter had failed, causing damages to the camshaft. The damage to the camshaft allowed metal debris to enter the engine. The engine was being rebuilt and the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Vehicle started making an odd noise and was immediately taken to the dealer. Engine light did come on after the noise started. Dealer confirmed that there was an issue with the camshaft/lifters and that they have had to perform this repairs to 8 other trucks with the same 6.2L engine. (Original repair bill is attached). Dealer performs the repairs, takes the truck for a test drive and within a few miles the engine completely seizes up stranding the truck in the middle of the road. They believe it was a separate issue that caused the engine to seize up and now after 12k of repairs I will also need to purchase a completely new engine. Currently waiting on the price and availability of a new engine but was told I may have to wait a long time since this is such a common issue there aren’t many available. Would be more than happy to share additional Info as it becomes available. I was parked at a gas pump, just got done fueling, hung hose up. I quickly ran into the gas station to grab a drink and as temps are 0°F, I remote started my vehicle from check out counter. When I returned to my vehicle the cab was filling with smoke. I sprung into action and quickly but safely drove away from gas pump with very little visibility, due to smoke, I assessed what was going on. Upon further investigating where the fire was coming from, I Could see the smoke was billowing from my rear window. As I Went to check on window heater that turns on automatically with remote start, the windows left panel exploded in my face from the outside of truck. Minor glass cuts, no major injuries. No insurance claims filed, no emergency services called as after I extinguished fire and turned off vehicle smoke seemed to have dissipated enough to safely get home 4 minutes away. As preventive messures I pulled the fuse to the rear window defroster so it is no longer getting power. This is seriously a safety hazard and thankfully I was able to pull away from gas pump. My truck, not so lucky. After looking into the issue when I got home, the US has NOT filed a recall on rear window defrosters for truck years 2014-2019. Canada DOES have a recall for this issue. As it has happened to me in the US in a very scary manor this needs to be addressed. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I was driving with kids in the rear seat. This needs to be taken care of and not at owners expense. Americans buy new vehicles to feel safe and secure. After owning my vehicle I have second thoughts about owning new, especially if a fire happens due to electronics built into the vehicle. I pray we can have this issue resolved to save all the innocent GM truck owners with families and friends who would also like to feel safe in their trucks. With temps this low in New England, I would like to be able to use my window defroster and have safer fields of view in icy/snowy conditions.

In certain GMC and Chevrolet Models 2019 to 2025 it is common knowledge and easily found on the web that there is a manufacturer defect that does not allow the vehicle to be placed in “park” properly due to defective parts in the steering column that do not allow the vehicle to safely turn off fully. The module does not seat and the vehicle will remain on in auxiliary. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RTcX-j3R5OQ . Again the link is an example but this defect is rampant.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD Crew. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH on a green traffic light, another vehicle was attempting to turn left while distracted by her phone. The contact veered to the left to avoid crashing with the other vehicle but was unsuccessful and landed 15 feet forward after the collision. No air bags were deployed, causing both the driver and passenger to be injured. The contact stated he sustained injuries on both his left and right hand and lower back, for which he was currently receiving treatment. No information was available on the other individual injured. The damage to the vehicle was on the front passenger's side. No warning light illuminated. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was pending a diagnosis however the frame was to be welded however due to the metal material the contact was concerned about it being back on the roadway. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

The truck suddenly started misfiring, running rough and lost power while driving. All the dash lights illuminated and the check engine light began flashing. We were a couple hours from home so we had to have the truck towed home. This could have been much worse as we were towing a trailer on a busy highway but luckily we were able to pull over to the side of the highway. Upon returning home we had the truck checked at the local Chevrolet dealership service department and were told we needed a whole new engine. After about 5 months after the initial incident we paid to have a new engine installed at the same dealership that inspected it. The truck had not exhibited any signs of any problems prior to the incident.

While driving on the highway with my four year old with me the truck jerked and then triggered 3 lights on my dashboard, this made getting to a safe spot uneasy as it was jerking and sounded like it was reving up and down and overall sounded not good. Truck was towed to mechanic and was discovered the lifter failed due to the Active Fuel Management (AFM) or Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) in that engine model. That failure caused further engine damage to the cam shaft and needs an entire rebuild of the top part of the engine. There were no other indicators that this would happen until it did. I contacted Chevy and they are aware of the situation and offered "cost assistance" only if it was brought to a GM dealership. Given the engine had to be taken apart to figure out what was wrong they said the only way to get assistance was to have the garage put it back together and then tow it there and have their mechanics look at it to determine if they could cover part of it. This isn't a viable option to me seeing how there isn't a guarantee of any assistance and would potentially cost more long term.
