A caution light appears and an error message "Secure vehicle against rolling. Secure vehicle with the parking brake when stopped." Come to find out there have been several complaints about 2017 BMW X1 having this same problem, error message caused by a faulty spring in the Shifter panel. Seems to me that this should be put on a Recall list as soon as possible as this could cause a safety issue if in fact the system malfunctions and causes the car to roll or shift into drive when stopped. This error message just started about a week ago. BMW dealership has checked the car and confirmed the issue is a faulty spring and that the whole Shifter needs to be replaced. Pulled codes, received code 420106 Shiftlock Solenoid Selector Lever Wrongly Not Locked in P. Forums all over the internet with hundreds of the same exact issue. Commonplace and should be recalled.

I reviewed the safety recalls for my specific vehicle however, I don’t see anything about the brake recall. On my vehicle service history report, I don’t see any repairs made in relation to the recall. The recall notice specifically identifies 2013/14 BMW X1 SAV. I’m concerned because I have had brake problems for a year now that my service center can’t seem to figure out the cause of. I’m worried my vehicle may have been missed somehow, and the symptoms I’m experiencing are very dangerous, even if not recall related. I am more than happy to present the vehicle for inspection at your convenience.

The engine coolant thermostat limited warranty for defects in materials or workmanship. The vehicle currently has 60,128 miles. The vehicle's "service engine soon", warning light began appearing intermittently and now it is constantly on. The car has a stored code (P0597) Thermostat Heater Control Circuit/Open.This vehicle has a current technical service bulletin for a defective thermostat for this model year; however, the VIN number is not included. This should be investigated further as this Technical service bulletin(SI B01 01 16) suggests that PRODUCTION date is NOT the sole determinate, but rather, the entire model year is just as imperative!! The local BMW dealership is refusing to repair the vehicle despite having premature failure with the thermostat heater control circuit/open for this model year vehicle and with a currently illuminated warning light and code (P0597). Although the technical service bulletin states that the model year & model numbers are both covered, the bulletin further states: 1) ."Note: The MY 2015 vehicles produced up to and including January 31, 2015 (as applicable) have been added to this bulletin December 2017"; and, 2) "Please do not use a vehicle’s production date as the sole determinate for this coverage, the vehicle’s “model year” is also an important determinate."

The contact called on behalf of his mother who owned a 2015 BMW X1. The contact stated that the service engine message was intermittently displayed and then remained displayed. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA ID Number: 10136705 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I had my car in for regular Oil Change Service and was told I needed front brakes and rotors. I approved the stated repairs. When I started my car and proceeded to drive off the lot a caution light appeared and an error message "Secure vehicle against rolling. Secure vehicle with the parking brake when stopped. Consult service center. I text a picture of the message to the service advisor and he stated "this is a known issue with the BMW X1 - "gear selector is intermittently faulty." I goggled website and seen that this is a known and common defect that BMW is aware of and has not had a recall or rectified the flaw of a the very expensive repair of $3500-$4000. https://api.mykaarma.com/video-walkaround/details?inspection_uuid=633c4b329e372707d2413d1c&fileType=image_and_video

I am getting a “secure vehicle from rolling” warning. Online many people report this is a problem with a gear shift ring. Is this being looked at as a recall?

When placed in park , vehicle reads “secure vehicle against rolling “ and “ Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center.” Upon research , this seems to be a common issue amongst this vehicle make and specific model that should be addressed. A parking brake should not be a requirement to ensure that a vehicle does not roll away into pedestrians , establishments , etc. when parked. No warning signs were provided prior to the alerts.

Unknown, design fault! I’m having an issue with the warning light saying Secure Vehicle from Rolling every time I turn on/off my car. My main menu or radio doesn’t appear until I confirm notice about the parking brake. There were no warnings before this it just toned and has been consistent every time. The dealer says it may be a small spring in the gear box, while the gears are working good.

Back panel of sunroof shade comes off track and may get stuck inside the headliner, generally due to adhesive failure or broken clips. Seems to be a common issue for this year/model. Can cause car to reach unsafe temperatures in warm climates with shade stuck open. Can also cause shade to fall down and obstruct driver’s view. Warranties generally won’t cover repair since it is not a motor failure.

As car is placed in park, and even after the parking brake is applied a message on the dash board and alert pops up saying "Secure Vehicle from Rolling" even though I am on a very flat street. Under details it states "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center." The parking brake is engaged!

At 44,000 miles, I began getting the error code "secure vehicle against rolling" every time I started the engine. Took car in to local dealership who advised I needed to have the gear shift assembly replaced as the car could roll even when placed in park. Out of fear that the car could roll and cause damage to myself or others, I requested they order the part immediately. After doing some research online, I learned that this has been a problem with certain BMW's and mini coopers since at least 2014. I do not understand why BMW has not resolved this issue and issued a recall or at least agreed to cover the cost of repair once the problem is detected. I contacted BMW corporate who replied no recall had been issued and they would not cover the cost of 2090.36 I paid for the repair.

A small spring in the shifter has broken not allowing the vehicle to recognize it is in park and could roll while parked causing injury. This is a known issue for BMWs in this model and year range. It can be fixed with a new spring but dealer insists that a new shifter is needed. So a $20 part fix vs. a $600 part fix. There are hundreds of others online and world wide that this has happened to. There now is a warning when shutting off vehicle to protect against rolling. This is happening to relatively low mile vehicles.

The BMW's display showed "Secure Vehicle Against Rolling". We took the car to the BMW dealership and they repaired the issue with a complete gear selector display assembly. We are concerned that this is a safety issue and we understand this may be a common problem with BMW. The vehicle in question had only 22,669 miles on the odometer when repaired.

I have read from hundreds of other people having the same problem. One side of the moonroof shade has come loose just from simply leaving it open.
