STEERING
My wife was driving and the power steering failed. She could hardly steer to safety. Turned car off then steering was fine. The next day it happened again so we dropped it off to our mechanic. Today he called and said the entire steering column would have to be replaced. He informed us that there was a recall in 2016 for this problem with ford and mercury vehicles from 2006- 2011 however our vin was not included. This vehicle has been kept in top shape and only has 70,000 miles. I feel this is definetly a manufacturer defect. We are planning to make these repairs but feel this vehicle should have been included in the recall.

This car has excessive under body rust under all the wheels wells. I was just told that my car would not pass a State Inspection because the on the front drivers side there is a bracket that holds up the engine is almost totally gone. I have read and over that this vehicle has a known rust and corrosion issue and Mercury/Ford has not been made responsible. I bought this car from a Ford Dealer in Aberdeen, MD used in 2018 and made them aware that I noticed rust on the rear wheel panels. They told me there is no recall however now I am not in a position to purchase or fix the entire under carriage of this vehicle. And I do not feel safe that an important bracket supporting the engine is totally rusted out.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the electric power steering failed, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to his residence. The contact had his friend who is an independent mechanic diagnose the vehicle. The mechanic determined that the power steering sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

ENGINE, POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
I was driving when it felt like the vehicle was reving in park then the "wrench" icon appeared on my dash. I went a couple blocks & my vehicle felt like it wasn't shifting automatically as it should. I pulled over & turned it off. It started right back up with no lights on, I went half a block & stopped at a stop sign but while stopped the engine reved up. I was worried I was going to be in an accident. Then the "wrench" light came back on, since I was close to home I figured I'd just try to get home. About another block, the check engine light came on & was making strange noises. I kept my vehicle at about 5-10 mph & got it home. My car was very jerky.

Why was Ford allowed to close out recall 14S05 ? My 2009 Mariner was not included in the recalled VINs - did Ford neglect to include Hybrid Mariners and Escapes that were built at the Kansas City Assembly plant between 2008 and 2011 ? I am looking at a $600 repair for a sensor that should never wear out - when nearly 3/4s of a million vehicles were recalled for this defective part.

SERVICE BRAKES
I lost all braking ability and the pedal goes to the floor. This is a Mercury Mariner Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid issue, it doesn't affect the non-hybrid models. Ford knows about this as there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints online about it and it's a $5000+ fix. I have not been able to drive my Mariner Hybrid since 2018.

Electronic power steering went out 2weeks after purchasing. Dealership said that it could be tork sensor. Had it tebooted 2 times and went back out each time. Recently had it tested again and repair man said that there was an active recall for it

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE VEHICLE SPORADICALLY AND INTERMITTENTLY BRAKES WHILE DRIVING AND ACCELERATING. THIS WAS A REPORTED ISSUE MANY YEARS AGO ON THESE CARS BUT FORD NEVER ISSUED A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE A NUMBER OF BRAKING ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IF YOUR BRAKES WITHOUT WARNING LOCK UP. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND FORD CORPORATE AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP. I ALSO FILED AN INCIDENT REPORT WITH FORD CORPORATE #CAS31601808.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT START-UP, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO STEER THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT INITIALLY SPOKE TO ALLAN VIGIL FORD (6790 MT ZION BLVD, MORROW, GA 30260) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS REFERRED TO THE NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO OPERATE WHILE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER RIVERSIDE FORD (2089 RIVERSIDE DR, MACON, GA 31204) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 260,000.

DRIVING, COMING TO A STOPLIGHT, THE BRAKES SUDDENLY FAILED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING I WAS ABLE TO GET JUST ENOUGH BRAKES TO STOP BEFORE COLLIDING WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF US. THE SERVICE ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE SERVICE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AFTER THE NEAR COLLISION. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE HCU UNIT HAD FAILED. THIS IS A $4,000 PART THAT WE HAD ALREADY REPLACED AT 76,000 MILES,. THE NEW PART FAILED AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING ONLY 22,000 MILES LATER.

AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, ON A CITY STREET. THE VEHICLE WILL JUST SHUT OFF, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT DOES THIS SEVERAL TIMES. EVERY TIME THE CAR IS BEEN DRIVEN IT WILL SHUT OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND ME AND MY FAMILY HAVE BEEN IN TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAS OCCURRED. IT CONTINUES TO DO THIS AT ANY SPEED AND EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN. CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR NOT EVEN A MILE BEFORE IT TOTALLY SHUTS OFF.

I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND LIST ALL POWER STEERING. EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE BUT I'M UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AT ALL NOW. THE DASHBOARD SHOWS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THIS FOR THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE BUT WHEN I RUN MY VIN NUMBER IT DOESN'T PROVIDE ME WITH ANY RECALLS FOR MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE SO THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO PAY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. NOW I'M LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND MY VEHICLE IS HOW I MAKE MY MONEY TO PAY MY BILLS. THE COST TO REPAIR IS OUTRAGEOUS. I'M GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING ANY FASTER BECAUSE IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I DID CALL THE 800 NUMBER FOR RECALLS AND I WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE.
