While on the freeway, the engine started making a loud knocking sound and the car was losing power. No check engine light or other warning lights were illuminated. I exited, parked and later towed the car back to the Kia dealership and they said I needed a block (engine) replacement at a cost of over $10,000. I have performed all routine maintenance on this car at the dealership, so this is unacceptable. Luckily I was able to exit the freeway and was not in an accident because of this failure. My car had approximately 109,000 miles on it.

My name is [XXX] and live in Topsham, ME. I purchased a 2017 Kia Sorrento from Bill Dodge Auto Group Westbrook a few years ago with a warranty that covers it to 100K miles (I am now at 83.699K). About 9 months ago I noticed that the vehicle started to go through large amounts of oil when I by chance decided to check it. I began to notice that it would go through a quart in about 500 miles of normal around town driving. After extensive effort I was able to make an appointment at Bill Dodge where they did a test and determined this was the case. They did do a cleaning and did improve it slightly but I brought it back to them for a thousand mile check although half of this was a highway trip. They measured and said that it was just under a quart after a little over a thousand miles and stated Kia states that this is normal oil consumption. I retested myself and found that I easily burn over a quart within a thousand miles of driving around town. I contacted the warranty administrator and they stated unless there is a failure of some kind then this is not covered under the warranty. I am sure I have no oil leaks. It is obvious to me that the engine is defective and Kia is not taking ownership as I have read online forums that many people have similar problems including engines blowing, sometimes without the warning lights coming on. (Only once has my engine light come on by the way). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Today, our vehicle began making a chiming noise and displaying the words "Stop Safely Immediately." We were nearly in a car accident as our car stopped working in the middle of the road. We had to abandon the vehicle because it would not move. Upon coming home, we searched our VIN and found that there was a recall on the vehicle that Kia had never informed us of: SC250. Kia is mandated to inform clients of recalls that may endanger them, yet Kia chose not to do so.

KIA and HYUNDAI - all of their cars are unsafe. I have attached a letter to the NJ State Attorney General to explain some of the issues. These cars are absolutely unsafe and we have no peace of mind. They are killing us, literally. Please do all you can to immediately stop them. I cannot explain how upsetting this is. Please may you help our families. Our children drive these cars. Our brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, neighbors, parents and all of us are in jeopardy of losing our lives. Thank you.

Sent messages to two Jacksonville dealerships about 23V652000 and cannot get a response, had Mutiple electrical issues on vehicle, including 'all problem indicators' on dashboard going on (incl check engine and ABS). Slight burning plastic smell, at 1st thought it was the headlight wires which 'melt' at times.

Sudden engine failure. Upon inspecting the vehicle Kia mechanic concluded engine failure is due to rod bearing wear, which isn't part of the engine failure recall. Thus customer is responsible for all expense in full.

The contact owns a 2019 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the brakes would pulsate as the vehicle would shake until the vehicle came to a stop. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had been taken to two dealers for the issue 7 times. The contact stated that the dealer was unable to determine if the failure was an ABS brake failure or an electrical failure as the vehicle has had electrical failures. The contact stated that the dealer had replaced the tire sensors more than one time, the brain of the electrical system was reprogrammed, and replaced, and the sensor was also replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently at the dealer and was informed that the electrical wiring harness was short circuiting and needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that the driver’s side rear passenger’s door handle had detached from the vehicle when her child attempted to open the door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the door handle was not replaced as the contact was informed that the door handle was not included in the Extended Warranty. The contact mentioned that the vehicle had electrical issues since the day of purchase. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

On Wed, Nov 1, 2023, 1:08 PM [XXX] [XXX] > wrote: December's 2nd, 2020 Kia Recall number SC200XM NHTSA Recall # 20V750 Recall Status Incomplete The summary reads that Kia is conducting a safety recall campaign to inspect the engine compartment for fuel, engine oil leaks and or and engine test and make any repairs including engine replacement on all 2012 - 2013 Kia Sorentos. This recall basically described my vehicle that I owned and many of the related problems like fuel mix related issues. My vehicle was giving off codes related to the fuel emissions problems, like gas cap, intake manifold, sensor, could be related to a possible engine fire or oil leaks that could cause a fire, ( reasons for a recall) On (10-12-2023) I took my vehicle in for this safety recall because Kia had issued this above safety recall for my vehicle. Prior to my going in, I had experience my vehicle cutting off while driving, some overheating, and oil leaking also, before I replaced the valve cover gasket on 5-18-2023. The mechanic that worked with see uploads, stated that spark plugs were wet with oil because I needed a valve cover gasket replacement. His statement would have indicated that my vehicle was leaking oil because of a bad valve cover gasket and it would cost me over $400.00 to fix. My vehicle was not leaking oil, because I had already replaced the valve cover gasket. There were no oil leaks on the ground even in my driveway. The mechanic was not aware that I had already replaced the valve cover gasket on (5-18-2023), prior to the recall visit to Kia on Mt. Moriah, in Memphis,TN. I believe that Kia, the mechanic, intentionally fabricated a problem with my vehicle to keep from servicing my vehicle for free on any and all related recall problems. I am requesting that Kia replace my engine because the recall says it will replace or fix because it is a fire safety issue. Thanks.
