Yesterday, I had been traveling on the turnpike and was attempting to merge back on from a rest area when the Jeep entered "turtle" or "limp" mode without warning, indicating a failure of the hybrid system. The speed dropped instantly to 2mph and the engine kept revving, generating dark exhaust and a concerning smell (hot, different from regular vehicle exhaust smell). Eventually I was able to move back into the parking area and needed to be towed. I have yet to have it evaluated by a dealership as they are closed today. Following multiple previous hybrid system recalls since purchasing the vehicle Oct 2022, I've experienced numerous malfunctions of the hybrid system (taking it to the dealership multiple times to be evaluated after the "wrench" service hybrid electric system warning showed) over the last 6 months. Each time I've been told a "software reset fixed it" by the dealership. The problems with this hybrid system have been increasing in severity. Currently two recalls are in place due to these hybrid system issues (remedy not available). This was a scary, dangerous experience and I have no confidence in Stellantis resolving this issue.

2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe — Ongoing Safety Defects With No Available Remedy I am reporting multiple unresolved safety defects on my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe that create a serious and ongoing risk of injury or death. I have contacted Stellantis bi-weekly since May, and my dealership has repeatedly stated they have no available repairs, no recommended remedies, and no ability to take the vehicle in due to outstanding recalls with no fix. I am being forced to operate a vehicle that is not safe to drive. 1. High-Pitch Electrical Hum and Continuous Cooling Fans While Parked/Off When the vehicle is turned off and not plugged in, it continues to emit a high-pitch electrical hum and the cooling fans run almost constantly. This behavior only occurs during charging or thermal management cycles, yet it happens while the vehicle is off, producing an abnormal load and possible electrical malfunction. Dealership confirms the issue but states there is no fix. 2. Instrument Cluster and Infotainment Screens Blacking Out While Driving Both digital displays shut off repeatedly while I am driving — up to 20 times per day. This removes access to critical information such as speed, warning indicators, and hybrid system status. The dealership again states they have no repair guidance from Stellantis and cannot resolve the issue. 3. Air Suspension Malfunctioning Hazardously The air suspension system releases and refills abruptly and uncontrollably. When I start the vehicle, the system rapidly raises and lowers regardless of mode or setting. It cycles continuously even when parked. The dealer acknowledges the behavior but reports no available service procedure or repair bulletin. 4. Sudden Uncommanded Acceleration When Slowing to a Stop (Most Dangerous Issue) When decelerating below ~20 mph, the vehicle will suddenly rev to 4,000–6,000 RPM and lurch forward, requiring immediate and forceful braking to prevent collision. This happens in all modes (Hybrid, Electric, and e-Save). T

As a result of recall 94b and FCA US LLC’s failure to act/provide remedy for over 1 year. I am reporting an ongoing safety issue with my vehicle involving the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. Since January 2025, the vehicle has intermittently spun out, particularly in cold or wet conditions, creating a serious safety hazard. FCA acknowledged the defect but repeatedly stated no remedy was available. I attempted to bring the vehicle to dealerships, provided diagnostic scans and photos, sent multiple letters (including certified mail), and followed all escalation procedures. Despite this, FCA has denied a buyback, provided no safe alternative or loaner vehicle, and failed to respond to communications. Representatives have been inconsistent, unprofessional, and dismissive — including laughing during calls while I reported the defect and impending winter hazards. The defect remains unresolved, the vehicle is unsafe to operate, and FCA’s repeated denials and lack of communication prevent any path to a safe resolution. I am filing this complaint to document FCA’s mishandling and to request that NHTSA require them to take appropriate action. The full detailed summary and supporting documentation are attached.

Timing cover leak, replaced by dealer once covered under warranty. Few months later same leak occurred in the same park after dealer replacement. Back to the dealer to have checked, dealer found that the head gasket during manufacture/casting has defect causing the head gasket to protrude into the mounting surface for the timing cover gasket/seal causing improper seal and securement. Dealer got Jeep engineers involved and found it was during manufacture and assembly/casting process. New head gasket being replaced and installed inspection of all mounting surfaces on cylinders valves and pistons for additional damage, and replacing timing cover gasket again. This caused loss of engine oil over time even after dealer fix and replacement the first time, this could cause drivers to not know they are low on engine oil causing potential catastrophic engine damage or failure/seizing during normal operating conditions. This is a common failure in the Jeep 4xe of timing cover seal issues and leaks.

I am formally requesting immediate review and investigation into multiple unresolved safety defects involving my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, VIN [XXX] . Jeep has acknowledged a hybrid-battery fire-risk recall affecting this model, yet there has been no available remedy or repair timeline, leaving the vehicle unsafe for regular operation and posing risk to myself, my family, and others around the vehicle. Primary defect — High-voltage hybrid battery fire risk (UNRESOLVED) My vehicle falls under an active hybrid-battery safety recall involving potential internal failure of the high-voltage traction battery capable of causing thermal events or fire while parked or in motion. Despite this being a critical safety hazard, Jeep/Stellantis has: Provided no repair or replacement timeline Offered no interim mitigation beyond advising parking precautions Provided no alternative transportation or safety guarantee This leaves me with a vehicle that cannot be safely used, parked near structures, or charged, effectively removing the primary functional design reason I purchased a 4xe plug-in hybrid. Additional unresolved safety-critical issues In addition to the fire-risk recall, my Grand Cherokee 4xe has experienced: Steering component issues, including instability and safety concerns while driving Suspension-related defects, including risks tied to coil-spring recall applicability Loss of hybrid system functionality, severely limiting drivability and efficiency Multiple disruptions causing loss of use, travel restrictions, confidence in safety & reliability These combined failures demonstrate systemic integrity concerns that extend beyond the battery recall alone. Why NHTSA’s involvement is needed Because Jeep has failed to present a repair path or a timeframe — and because this defect can escalate to vehicle fire, immobilization, or sudden failure while driving — I believe there is sufficient cause for expanded review and enforcement action. My 2020 Jeep will regularly turnover but not start after pushing the start button. As of now, the vehicle will start normal after pushing the start button a second time. Research has shown many people have had and are still having this exact issue. It would seem that most of the ones with this problem have fixed the issue by having both fuel pumps replaced which is very expensive and in my opinion highly unreasonable being it is a very common issue for Jeep. Upon further research it would seem Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos which share the mechanical characteristics have been having this exact issue for at least 10 years now. I feel it is more than fair that the manufacturer should issue a recall and fix the defect they have obviously known about for quite some time now.

1. The battery is consistently being drained from an unknown issue, mechanic unsure. In two years it has need 3 batteries. This causes start issues, window closing issues, and the radio screen console issues. 2. The transmission gets stuck in third now needing a new transmission. Was told only a new transmission will fix issue.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop at a stop sign at approximately 5 MPH, the contact heard an abnormally loud banging sound followed by an abnormal grinding sound coming from underneath the vehicle, near the driver's feet. The vehicle then shifted to neutral and failed to move. The contact was able to turn off the vehicle after disconnecting the ECM. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance, and the vehicle was left on the side of the road overnight. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the sheer pins and the power transfer unit (PTU) connection had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

- #11701593November 25, 2025FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, STEERING
While my wife was driving our 2023 plug-in hybrid SUV, the vehicle suddenly lost all power steering assist. The steering wheel became extremely hard to turn and she could not safely control the vehicle. I had to verbally guide her to pull over into a very unsafe area because the vehicle became nearly impossible to steer. The failure happened instantly with no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms. The vehicle was completely undriveable. I had to call a tow truck and pay out of pocket to have it towed directly to an authorized dealer. We were forced to take an Uber home. The dealer confirmed that this model currently has multiple active safety recalls, including recalls involving high-voltage battery fire risk and potential loss of propulsion, and that they could not inspect the vehicle immediately due to limited staffing. This incident posed a significant crash and injury risk because the driver was unable to steer the vehicle with normal force. The sudden loss of steering assist created a dangerous situation on a public road and required emergency towing. The vehicle is now at the dealership awaiting inspection, and the failure can be inspected upon request.

Complaint Summary: Recall 68C – High Voltage Battery. Vehicle cannot be charged safely and must be parked away from structures due to fire risk. No repair or diagnostic procedure is available. Description: I own a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (VIN: [XXX] ). On November 10, 2025, I was notified of Recall 68C involving a risk of high-voltage battery fire. Jeep instructed me to stop charging the vehicle and to park it away from buildings. I have fully complied, which means the EV portion of the vehicle is unusable and the vehicle’s utility is significantly reduced. My dealership stated that no repair or diagnosis is currently available, and Jeep Customer Care confirmed the same. My case (#94692611) was escalated on November 10, but I have received no update or assistance. I requested interim support (rental or goodwill compensation) because the vehicle cannot be operated as designed, but Jeep advised that no assistance can be processed until a dealer performs a diagnosis—which is impossible because Jeep has not provided one. This situation has resulted in: Complete loss of EV driving capability Increased fuel costs Inability to garage the vehicle (safety concern) Diminished trade-in, resale, and private sale value The manufacturer has provided no remedy, no timeline, and no temporary assistance, leaving me without a functional plug-in hybrid vehicle. I am requesting NHTSA review and ensure Stellantis provides a remedy plan or interim assistance for affected owners. I leased this new vehicle in July 2025. had it for a month and it wouldn't start. Premier Jeep in Hyannis, MA 02601 said it was the start/stop battery and replaced it. a month later the car experienced an system failure and the car put the parking brake on and put the car in park and shut it off WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC! this time the dealer service said it was the lift gate mechanism and the on/off/start button. these have been replaced. each incident resulted in the vehicle spending a week in the shop. I asked for a loaner but none available both times. now the car is back in the repair shop because when I get in to start it it turns itself off right away. no loaner car was offered. I have no car now AGAIN!

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Summit Reserve which is affected by recalls 78C and 68C. These recalls have no remedy, no timeline, and no clear information from Stellantis. I no longer feel safe driving my daily driver, and the lack of progress has created a serious safety and reliability issue. Stellantis has instructed owners not to recharge the vehicle and to park away from buildings or other vehicles. This implies a potential fire risk that many owners cannot avoid, especially those who live in shared parking areas, garages, apartments, or townhomes. This should be treated as a major safety hazard. Stellantis has already attempted software updates and even high voltage battery replacements, but these efforts have not resolved the problem. The fact that previous fixes failed suggests a hardware defect involving the battery system or related components. Stellantis has not provided accurate or transparent information, and owners have no path forward. Because Stellantis advises against charging, the hybrid system cannot be used at all. This eliminates the purpose of the vehicle and increases operating costs. I have spent many hours at dealerships with no solution. Stellantis Customer Care has stated that they will not offer support or compensation and directed me to a third party arbitrator. I respectfully request that NHTSA increase oversight of recalls 78C and 68C, investigate whether Stellantis has properly identified the defect, and determine whether the company is meeting federal recall obligations. I also ask NHTSA to consider whether this situation warrants interim owner compensation or potential buy back evaluation due to ongoing safety risks, failed repairs, and the complete loss of hybrid functionality.
