The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. While driving for 5–10 minutes at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with several unknown warning lights illuminated, and a "Pressure Overheating" message was displayed. The Automatic Emergency Braking feature activated. The contact called roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, who replaced the valve cover gasket, spark plug, and battery. The failure persisted. The vehicle was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a second independent mechanic, who checked the cooling system, performed a coolant test, and completed an oil change. The failure recurred, and the vehicle was towed back to the mechanic, who flushed the coolant and replaced the coolant hose, radiator hose, and coolant reservoir tank. The failure continued with a collapsed radiator hose. The contact had a friend purchase a main radiator hose for replacement. The vehicle was taken to a third independent mechanic; however, no diagnostic trouble code was retrieved, and the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact was informed that the engine and transmission might need to be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

In July 2024 the engine blew a rod causing catastrophic engine failure causing our daughters Jeep while driving down [XXX] in San Antonio to lift off the ground from the force and leaving her no where to get to safety with no shoulder. Only being some months and 1505 miles out of warranty they denied any goodwill. This specific engine was the same motor that was involved in the Wood, et al. v. FCA US, LLC class action lawsuit. The Jeep was well maintenanced and no indication of any problems prior to the abrupt explosion under the hood while she was driving causing all fluids to immediately start pouring from the Jeep and leaving her little time to get to safety before the Jeep came to a stop and shut down. Where she was stranded was on one of the most dangerous parts of the highway on [XXX]. Now all motor mounts that we had just replaced in March of 2024 are bad, leaving to wonder if it was because a new engine was put onto compromised motor mounts in 2024. While driving my 2025 Jeep Compass, the vehicle displayed a “Service 4x4” warning and began producing a loud engine/drivetrain noise accompanied by severe physical jerking and you could hear the car having difficulty shifting gears once the transmission got hot enough (over 130 degrees). The jerking was significant enough to affect the vehicle’s normal operation and raised concerns about maintaining control and safely driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a Jeep dealership for inspection. The dealership originally diagnosed the differential as the cause of the problem and replaced the differential. Approximately 15 minutes after leaving the dealership following this repair, the same loud noise and severe jerking returned. The vehicle was immediately returned to the dealership. The dealership then diagnosed the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) as the cause of the problem and replaced the PTU. Approximately 20 minutes after leaving the dealership following the PTU replacement, the same loud noise and severe jerking occurred again. The problem has therefore occurred repeatedly and has returned almost immediately after two separate drivetrain repairs. The vehicle has been inspected and the problem has been reproduced, but the underlying cause has not been resolved. I am concerned that the vehicle may have an unresolved defect involving the AWD/drivetrain system because the same severe noise, jerking, and abnormal shifting returned almost immediately after both major drivetrain repairs. The vehicle continues to present the same safety concern. I’ve also seen other 2025 Jeep owners talk about experiencing the same issues on online forums.

- #11768127September 30, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING, SUSPENSION
My 2020 Jeep Compass develops significant shaking and vibration when I apply the brakes while traveling above approximately 70 mph. The vibration affects the vehicle’s stability and makes me concerned about maintaining control and stopping safely at highway speeds. The vehicle was inspected and serviced by an authorized Jeep dealership after I reported the shaking. The dealership identified problems involving the inner tie rods and steering system. Before the repair, I specifically questioned whether the brake rotors could be contributing to the shaking. The dealership assured me that it was completely certain the problem had been corrected. The vehicle rides somewhat better following the repair, but the same high-speed braking vibration remains. The vehicle now has new tires, but the shaking continues. The problem occurs primarily when the brakes are applied at highway speed, which raises concerns involving the brake rotors, hubs, calipers, steering rack, tie rods, wheel bearings, or related suspension components. There are no warning lights before the shaking occurs. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether recurring high-speed braking vibration, premature steering-component wear, or related brake and suspension problems constitute a safety defect in Jeep Compass vehicles.

Aux battery failed; start/stop, stopped at a red light car shut off in start/stop mode, when I went to drive my car went into limp mode and emergency break engaged and every single light on my dash came on. I had to turn car off in the intersection. Once I turned the car back on every light came back on and when I shifted it into drive the transmission slammed so hard it jerked the entire car. This has issue started around 60,000 miles. I have 131,000miles now. Being broke down in the middle of an intersection is extremely dangerous especially with a new born in the car and it reoccurs every couple of months. Also wheel speed sensor has frequently loosen since 60,000 miles. This caused every light to come on the dash and car go into limp mode. It happened the first time on the highway going 70mph. The car lost drivetrain we almost lost control. It’s has not been inspected by a “certified tech” but a backyard tech has. No accidents have been caused. Also oil leaks where the dipstick meets the block and has since I purchased the car at 34,000 miles. I’ve spent well over $1000 in main batteries and auxiliary batteries since 2020 (year of purchase) to fix the stalling issues each time they occur. If I don’t catch the aux battery dying in time it kills my main battery and I have to purchase both just so my car doesn’t stall in the middle of the road and possibly cause a life threatening accident.

- #11766194September 22, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, STEERING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Multiple electronic/body-control systems fail intermittently, confirmed by dealer diagnostics (DTC summary report, 5+ service visits): Active Lane Management/Blind Spot system shows "blind spot alert unavailable" and lane-keep faults, mainly during turns and lane crossings (DTC U0422-00, "Implausible Data Received From Body Control Module," stored across ACC, LBSS, RBSS modules). Rear camera intermittently fails to display (DTC B217A-87 "Rear Camera-Missing Message," B217A-9A "Rear Camera-Component or System Operating Conditions"). 4WD system shows "Service 4WD System" warning during sustained highway driving over 60 mph, clearing after 1-2 minutes. USB port intermittently shows "USB ERROR/Device_No_Response" and stops recognizing phones (possibly DTC B15A1-00 "Media Port 1 Connection"). Auto start/stop malfunction was also previously observed. Safety risk: The lane/blind-spot systems fail during the exact maneuvers where they matter most—turning and crossing lane lines into driveways/parking lots—so the driver may rely on a system that's silently unavailable during higher collision risk. Both ALM and 4WD faults trigger sudden, unexpected warning chimes while driving, startling the driver and diverting attention from the road at critical moments. Rear camera dropout adds risk while reversing. Dealer confirmation: Yes. Technicians confirmed the ALM fault, recalibrated the lane sensor multiple times, and replaced part BBAUX101AB—none resolved the issue. U0422-00, B217A-87, and B217A-9A were confirmed via dealer diagnostic scan. The 4WD and USB faults self-clear before the vehicle can be brought in live. Other inspections: Dealer service department only; not inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance.

- #11765444September 19, 2026STEERING, SUSPENSION, WHEELS
I am reporting a serious steering/suspension safety problem with my 2017 Jeep Compass. After picking the vehicle up from the dealership following repairs/service, the vehicle was significantly more difficult and frightening to control than before. While driving, the Jeep will suddenly veer toward the shoulder/ditch or toward/over the center line even though I have not intentionally moved the steering wheel in that direction. I have to repeatedly correct the steering to keep the vehicle in my lane. The problem becomes worse and more dangerous as speed increases. There are also multiple popping/clunking noises coming from underneath the vehicle. The steering feels unstable and the vehicle does not consistently track in the direction the steering wheel is pointing. This creates a serious risk of losing control, leaving the roadway, or colliding with another vehicle. The dealership has previously diagnosed problems involving the steering/rack and pinion and has had the vehicle multiple times for repairs. After the most recent service, the steering condition became extremely unsafe. I notified the dealership immediately and provided video showing the steering/vehicle movement. The dealership owner responded that I should obtain an attorney and have my attorney contact theirs. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection. I am requesting that NHTSA document and investigate this steering/suspension safety issue because I believe the vehicle presents a serious risk to the driver, passengers, and other motorists.

ABS module is faulty causing other issues including problems with electronic stability, no speedometer, no cruise control, no abs brakes. Apparently Jeep is no longer making this part as it has been on backorder for months. I feel it is unsafe as winter weather is nearing and abs brakes would be essential for safe driving. At [XXX] old I feel it is an essential part of safe driving for myself and my wife. I've been communicating with Jeep customer care for several weeks with absolutely no resolve. It appears they are not even producing the part that would seem essential for safe driving. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11764945September 17, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I bought my jeep brand new in 2025. I have had multiple occasions where my breaks lock up when on the highway or main roads. The collision detection settings are all "OFF" since my first experience of this happening. I have taken my vehile in the jeep facility a couple of times now and they tell me they do not see anything coming out bad on their end when checking the system. It is still occurring. And I am taking my car back in to get it looked at again. When this happens there are no chimes, signals or anything that tells me "something is in front of me". Also when this happens there won't be a car or anything in the roadway. I could be driving a clear road at 50-60mph and it feels as if I hit a brick wall for a moment then my car just continues. Jarring me forward. I am afraid if someone is ever behind me when this happens with myself and my family in this vehicle I could get rear ended and cause a horrible accident. I'm especially fearful when driving on the highway for this to happen when someone is behind me. At this point I want a new vehicle to let me feel safe again. This should not be happening especially when I have all sensors for this turned "OFF".

I have a 2018 Jeep Compass that is experiencing an intermittent engine stall while I am driving. The engine cuts off, particularly when I am sitting in traffic or maintaining the same speed for an extended period of time. There is currently no check-engine light illuminated. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle is losing power while being operated on the road. I do not consider this a normal drivability issue, and I need the vehicle properly diagnosed for an intermittent stalling/loss-of-power condition. Please check my VIN for all open safety recalls, including any PCM/powertrain-control-module recalls or campaigns, and check whether there are any applicable technical service bulletins or known issues related to this symptom. I would also like the concern documented on my repair order exactly as: “Vehicle intermittently stalls/cuts off while driving, causing loss of motive power.” Because this is a safety-related issue, I would like the service department to advise whether the vehicle should be driven or towed in for diagnosis. Please do not simply tell me there are no codes or that the check-engine light is not on. The vehicle is actually shutting off while I am driving.
