I bought my car in December of 2020 with 64,000 miles and it start stalling in August of 2021. They did work on it and said it was good then it completely stopped in November 2021 and they said my engine was bad and they weren’t fixing it. I didn’t even put 10k miles on there. There was 72,028 miles when I took it in.

Front Driver Side Seat Belt does not retract to original position when seat belt unlatched. Also seat belt does not lock into restraint position when brakes are applied and remains loose even when brakes applied heavily during emergency/urgent braking. Dealer said it is not a safety issue, it is a wear issue and owner would have to pay for full replacement.

Since the previous recall associated with the turn signal sometimes signaling in the wrong direction, I have noticed for months that when driving at night when the turn signal is on in either direction the lights function will start moving from on to auto to off causing the lights to turn off when signaling. This is very dangerous especially at night.

Smell of fuel & starting issues. The car has been taken to the dealer multiple times regarding gas fumes and they could not find anything. And it is currently at a mechanic shop to for same reason. When you start the car it doesnt take long before the whole car smells like gas & the smell is so strong it is suffocating. The car is health & fire risk. Also the car sometimes doesnt want to start for days but the starter, battery, alternator all work & even the mechanic doesnt know whats wrong with it. Apperantly there is no recall & if you search online there are alot of people with same cars complaining about gas smell & starting issues..

The front seat belts are not functioning; they do not retract, nor do they lock when quickly pushed. They both do lock into the buckle, but that's it. I checked the recall status for such a problem and found that many years and models of Hyundai Sonata's seatbelts were recalled for exactly this same reason; however, this particular year of Sonata was not, even though it is the same issue. In late February/early March, I contacted our local dealer in Reno, to no avail, and then contacted the national customer support for Hyundai. This was forwarded up the ladder and received a case number: [XXX]. We were asked to take it to our local dealer for a diagnostic review, which was completed on March 22. The result, showing the exact same malfunction, was then sent to the Hyundai case worker. Numerous phone calls and emails to her have gone unanswered since then. Meanwhile, we are stuck with an unsafe vehicle, which has the same seatbelt safety issue that resulted in a recall of over one million Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai states the seatbelts are past the warranty period. Seven years is how long they think seatbelts should last? The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH and making a left turn, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to coast into a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who informed the contact that it would be four to five weeks before being serviced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the engine was previously replaced in 2018. The manufacturer was notified and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Car just stopped running while driving in the morning. After lunch it wouldn't start up, nor turn over. Shop says engine is Seized. which sounds just like the other Sonata's issues, but my car says it doesn't have a engine recall on it

The cabin heater started blowing cold air in February. One shop said the car was low on coolant and topped it off. I made an appointment to take the car to a dealer because it's still under warranty (<37k miles). I had to wait 3 weeks. A few days before my appointment, the cabin heater started blowing cold air, again. There is no indicator that the coolant is low. The engine temperature is one of a dozen gauges one can scroll thru, but the "engine overheating" warning started flashing before I thought to check the temperature guage. Smoke came out of the exhaust and, once stopped, from under the hood. There was a risk of an engine fire and/or permanent damage to the engine.

My vehicle and a couple more vehicles that I have seen seem to have a cracked interior dashboard caused by the heat. This problem seems to be common on hyundai's of different models. I've owned several different manufacturered vehicles, and this is the first vehicle manufacturer with a common problem with the cracking of the vehicles interior dashboard it has plastic fumes. There seems to be no remedy for this defective product. I have done research and found alot of people online having the same problem.

I was driving southbound on I429 approaching the Vineland Wintergarden (FL)exit. approximately .75 miles from exit, a bit of an uphill. I heard a ticking noise, then suddenly the car went silent. The screen lit up with every sensor flashing. It took me a few seconds to realize I was in potentially deadly trouble. The car began slowing from 70 MPH to maybe 25MPH as I crested the last hill. To add complications, that stretch is under construction and does not have any shoulder. I could see a wall of cars streaming ever closer in my rear view mirror. I believe my hazzard lights probably saved me from a crash before gliding the last 1/4 mile to the exit where I was able to finally pull over to safety.

HEV turn off engine light pops up WHILE driving. I could’ve been on the highway or the middle of no where and have to turn off my car, just to turn it back on and it seems fine? This has happened a total of 5 times since owning this vehicle, and I’ve gotten all code on the car fixed about a month ago.

On February 11, 2022, I took my car to the dealership because my oil light came on. I was told I had no oil in the engine. So they said to get an oil change and that would take care of the problem. Nope. It has not taken care of the problem. My car burns oil. I have taken it to 2 different Hyundai shops. One just kept changing the oil and never submit the paperwork until I got really upset about bringing my car back a month after having the oil change. No help. I have called Hyundai customer service no help at all. In January 2023 I went to start my car and it started jerking and shaking and spitting out oil threw the tailpipe. The car would not move. My garage door was covered with oil. I had it towed to another Hyundai dealership they kept the car for a week and told me that it needed a new spark. New wires because it was covered in oil. I'm out of $3000.00 including all the oil changes and the work that was done. Oh yeah, I was told to bring the car back after 1000 miles. I brought it back in March 2023. They started the oil consumption test. I was told to bring it back on that Thursday the 5th. I took my car back and the dealership would not accept my vehicle. Wouldn't let me leave it for my service guy nothing. I called the next day for my service guy and they said he didn't come in today. I even filed with the BBB Auto Line. I found that information in my 2017 owners handbook supplement did not help closed my case. They didn't even call or asked me any questions. No help. Stuck with a car I have no confidence in. I don't know if the engine is going to blow because the oil gets low or if it's going to sketch on fire because theirs no oil in it.
