My engine was replaced under warranty due to the major Theta engine recall, after 20k miles on the new engine its failing too, burning oil, smoking, making loud valve train noise on acceleration, and at time operates very sluggishly and strangely no engine codes ,almost like my engine code system was programmed to ignore these issues. My new replaced engine seems to be failing again and they don't care. I'm afraid this car will catastrophically fail or catch fire like I've been reading about.. Because its past the 12k warranty they are declining to fix,12k warranty REALLY ???!! Here's my concern, I am hearing many many ,many stories from others and even the dealer people that Hyundai is replacing the recall engines with BAD faulty engines, some I've heard have received 3 engines. My dealer lied to me saying it was a PCV ,the PCV valve was replaced and my engine is still failing like the first engine. Please help, Hyundai is basically getting away with ignoring the recall settlement by replacing the engines with still known faulty engines !

Incident sounds similar to those experienced with the dual clutch transmissions. November 2022, all of the vehicle warning lights were on and remained on. The vehicle would not move and the transmission selector/shifter was locked in place. Working with the local service/dealership, the vehicle was repaired after 3 weeks with a new transmission shift actuator (or possibly other part). Similarity in the experience and possibility of risk with little information about trends or others in similar situations or resolution. We've had another (Same make/model/year) vehicle present similar circumstances.

When I arrived in the parking lot and selected the R (reverse), the vehicle stayed in the D (Drive) although that it was moving backwards and was able to park it. The shift selector was stuck in DRIVE (Drive) leaving the vehicle on but not operational. After several attempts to allow the vehicle to cool and the battery to reset, (30 minutes_ later), the car started and took the vehicle to be serviced. The vehicle technician said they had a difficult time diagnosing the vehicle because it was giving different codes. They said that while testing they found the Transmission Shift Selector Module was damaged. Not physically but electronically damaged. They also stated that the car could have other problems but that they needed to replace the module first because it could be the cause of the other errors.

Car stalled while driving with no warning at all. No indication of a problem, no lights on, no noises from car. We coasted to the shoulder and the car would turn over and die as the rpm decreased. Had car towed to repair shop. Was informed many codes had shown and they were in reference to the engine so I needed to get it towed to a dealer. Dealer called indicated codes p0014 and p0017 came up and that I needed to have my engine replaced. Hyundai was contacted and refused to help with cost based on age of car and out of warranty. My car is it 111,000 miles. The recall was refused because the bearings were not the engine issue.

My 2017 Hyundai hybrid PHEV vehicle stuttered and failed to accelerate when the gas pedal was depressed and a warning light indicated a problem which was confirmed as a failed battery in January 2023. I was advised by the Hyundai Sonata service center 13 weeks ago that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to a defective battery. They have not been able to replace the battery or provide an estimate of when the replacement battery will be delivered. The battery has a lifetime warranty but the Hyundai company and dealership is not providing a loaner vehicle or reimbursing me for rental vehicle while the unsafe vehicle sits in the service center for more than 3 months. Please help.

The engine is burning the oil faster than normal. There are no oil leaks. Called the dealership and they said it’s an oil consumption. I got an oil change March 3,2023 and my oil pressure light came on last Friday April 14,2023 as I was driving I pulled over and there was completely no oil in the car. The dealership told me to top it off until they can look it at. I topped it off Friday with two quarts of oil that I purchased from auto zone. I checked my oil again on Yesterday April 18,2023 and the two quarts of oil I put in was completely black

Purchased a used Hyundai Sonata in June 2020 when it had almost 57,000 miles on it. Got the car regularly serviced and provided receipts to Hyundai on the national level as well as the local dealership. Received the following claim number - Hyundai Motor America Case#: [XXX]. [XXX]is with the Dealership in Dallas Texas and they car is with his dealership. Have also been dealing with[XXX] at Clay Cooley Hyundai Mesquite [XXX]. The engine does not work and needs to be replaced. Hyundai should be responsible for replacing the engine. The car has only around 76,000 miles on it. Hyundai Mesquite is threating to tow the car and possibly have it junked if it is not picked up. I cannot afford to pick up a car that does not operate. - #11517823April 19, 2023POWER TRAIN, SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was driving down the street and I hit a car because I felt that I lost the control of the car momentarily and it happened as it is described on this recall - 22V746000: The vehicle's "fail-safe" limited-mobility drive mode may be impaired, when prompted by a transmission oil pump malfunction, which can result in a complete loss of drive power. As a result the car crashed into another vehicle. Have the car since 24th of March. Have been feeling at times that I fight to be the driver with the car. Spoke to friends about the issue and they were concerned about that too.

As i was getting off the interstate, my car literally shut off completely, no warning signs or anything, so my fiance thought it was the alternator, went to get a new alternator, & my car still didnt crank, got a new starter, my car still didnt crank. So i had to tow it to an independent service center and he determined that my motor had seized. Which was weird because i kept my car up. My safety was put at risk because i could have had a wreck getting off the highway with cars coming down a ramp.

NHTSA Campaign 09V124000 (Hyundai Recall #089) - excessive corrosion, thinning of the metal and perforation of the front sub-frame steel, due to road salt, resulting in separation of the forward mounting of the lower control arm increasing the risk of a crash. The recall was issued in 2009 for 1999-2004 Hyundai Sonatas. The present owner purchased the vehicle in 2014 with no knowledge of previous recall. The excessive corrosion and perforation of the sub-frame was brought to the owner's attention in December 2022 during a routine oil change by a Meineke shop and reported as unsafe to drive. The vehicle was towed to Route 1 Hyundai in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, for inspection and repair estimate on December 30, 2022 and an online complaint filed with Hyundai Motor America for the recall (Case #[XXX]). Following numerous email communications to Hyundai Consumer Affairs, it was confirmed by a National Consumer Affairs representative that the vehicle was covered in Hyundai Recall #089. Route 1 Hyundai took photos of the front sub-frame and H-frame, completed a report and submitted it to Hyundai Motor America. Hyundai Motor America responded that they are declining assistance due to the failure being out of warranty caused by the time in service and mileage of the vehicle. The vehicle has 80,000 miles on the odometer. I am of the understanding that safety recalls are never out of date. Please verify if the response made by Hyundai Motor America is justified. I purchased my vehicle in November 2022 from Honda Dealership. It was making a noise and “drove funny” I asked them about it and I was reassured the vehicle was in 100% working condition and they were not allowed to sell “bad cars”. So, I let it go. Since I purchased the car I have maintained regular oil changes and service on it— I just bought the car! I have been getting oil changes a lot sooner than I should, and every-time I take it to the shop they say it’s bone dry. Current: my car recently stopped working without any warning at all. I got a diagnosis from the mechanic that my engine failed due to pistons and rods. I did some research and found my car listed for a recall for campaign 953. And I am not the only sonata owner experiencing this problem.

Was driving on freeway on the way back from visiting family in different state when rpms dropped off and suddenly lost power. Car began shuddering and check engine light started blinking. Put hazards on and somehow managed to pull over to shoulder. No problems with car or anything to indicate anything was wrong before this. Called to have car towed to dealership where they said there was a software problem and it was falsely indicating low oil levels. ECM was reset and software updated for $233 which they said fixed the problem. Said that carbon deposits may have caused the software to misread and that may have been why there was no indication of problems before. Hope so because i have a long drive back.
