- #11570418February 6, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The fuel pump system failed and did not accurately display the amount of fuel in tank. This caused car to run out of gas on busy highway, and shut down and all systems turned off. Was able to coast to side of road and from there was eventually towed to local dealership. They diagnosed the fuel system problem and repaired. This was second time it happened, first time was not diagnosed, just fill with gas.

Driving down the highway at 65+ MPHwith the “lane departure” control off, the steering wheel will “stick” randomly” with any adjustment to stay centered in my driving lane.

In months immediately before, and during our three week highway trip, steering would often briefly catch, or be sticky, while operating vehicle. Also, this occurred at very slow speeds in parking lots and on city streets, but not as often as on highways. Turning the wheel fully in parking lots would also result in a slight clunking sound. Would not occur initially when car was cold in the morning but as day went on and extended highway driving, steering would regularly catch or stick, causing driver to slightly tug the wheel back to center. It was so noticeable that I called two Honda dealers, one in South Carolina and my home dealer in Ohio to see if it was safe to drive home. When we got home, took car into Honda dealer and their technicians could not find anything out of the normal. While I have not noticed this steering tugging yet since coming home, we haven’t driven very much and definitely not extended highway driving as we did down south. This Hybrid CRV was delivered to us last June and now has 9328 miles on it. Can’t say that our safety was or wasn’t put in jeopardy but this did occur on crowded highways at highway speeds and did require us to compensate for it. No warning lamps or messages appeared on the car.

Steering tends to "stick" when driving, most noticeably at highway speed. You can feel the steering wheel catch when you move the wheel, even slightly. Although the sensation is similar to when lane departure engages, it happens when the feature is off and when I am dead center in a lane. Seems to increase over the time and distance driven. I bought the car new and drove for some time before it became noticeable, but now it's nearly constant.

While driving at highway speed (60 to 65 mph), I tried to make a minor steering correction. I felt resistance to my efforts for about 1/2 second followed by a quick release and an abrupt "catch up" in the steering action. The action was not enough to result in lane departure or loss of control, but it was disconcerting and annoying.

At around 8,000 miles on my 2023 Honda CRV I noticed a jerky or sticky steering wheel. The wheel doesn't respond properly to turning. The dealership says the Rack needs to be replaced and the part is on back order. I am worried about driving it safely. There is NOT currently a recall...however I've read more than 500,000 vehicles have this issue. And it may take months to replace. What can I do?

- #11569957February 5, 2024ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle after refueling. Additionally, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed; however, the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic recommended a more extensive diagnostic test be performed by dissembling the engine. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a coolant leak inside the engine was discovered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

While travelling home from Champaign, IL on [XXX] towards Springfield, IL, we had been on the road for approximately an hour, when there was a loud metallic bang & I lost all steering control. The CR-V violently jerked to the right and exited the interstate at approximately 70mph (I was on cruise control), travelled down an embankment hitting several trees and came to a stop in trees on the edge of a farm pond. All airbags deployed, and per the Tow company, the engine and transaxles departed the vehicle and were found a short distance in front of the vehicle. The car stayed upright and continued straight after departing the roadway. what component failed & is it available for inspection - steering, exact component unknown. unknown if available for inspection, vehicle released to state farm 1/29 how was safety put at risk - caused severe crash with serious injuries. total loss of control could have been fatal if traffic was heavier has the problem reproduced - no has the vehicle been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance etc - unknown, vehicle was released to state farm 1/29 were there any warning lamps or symptoms? - no INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My front driver side seatbelt is not working properly and never has. I've had trouble getting it to roll into position instead it gets stuck outside the car door. When trying to find it to buckle up. When I unbuckle the seatbelt it Will not roll back into position and when I try to pull to get it to click onto I have trouble getting it to clasp. I've asked the Honda dealership if they could replace it for me without a charge they said no they could not. They suggested making a report and possibly getting special permission to replace it.

So I was driving on the freeway in [XXX] going normal highway speed like between 55-65 mph so it was raining really hard like road was not clear to see at night I notice when I turn on the heater to about 80-85 degrees on defrost so the windows don’t fog up I notice there is a fuel smell coming from the vent it goes away when the heater is not on but this fuel smell is pretty strong I been getting it lately checked all around for other recalls relating to this issue but found nothing also checked for leaks found no leak it’s been happening when the vehicle turn 50,000 miles it was unusual because I take care of this car and really like it for a work car but noticed the fuel smell it’s quite scary INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My vehicle was involved in an accident on the highway in which no front airbags were deployed. I’m grateful that my family and I weren’t seriously injured. My Vin# shows that their aren’t any recalls on my vehicle but feel there may be something wrong with my airbags.

The steering wheel becomes sticky when traveling at speeds over 60 MPH. When I try to turn the wheel to maintain center of road, the steering wheel has a small catch or sticky spot which makes it difficult to turn it. This first appeared around 4,000 miles in. I have not yet taken it to be inspected but will be soon.

Best description: momentary increased steering effort. Similar to issues reported with the 2023 Civic and CR-V. Steering seems to drift/tug to one side or the other, then when correcting, it will over-correct. Dealership determined that the EPS rack is defective. Parts are on back order with unknown ETA.

Starting late December 2023, the vehicle drained the battery in the car very quickly. I replaced the battery twice, and twice the battery was drained to death very quickly. It was discovered by the local Honda dealer that the Body Control Module (BCM) on the car wakes up by itself while the car is shutdown and parked. BCM drains the battery very quickly and leaving the car in-operable, leaving us stranded. This is a very serious security risk. It caused over $1000 to repair. This is a wide-spread problem for Honda cars. Actually there is a recall for BCM in Honda Accord models.
