1. Component Failed & Inspection Availability:The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Gearbox and Rack Assembly malfunctioned and failed. The component is currently installed on the vehicle and is fully available for inspection upon request.2. Safety Risks:The steering wheel physically binds, catches, and sticks when traveling at highway speeds (between 45–70 mph). Controlling the vehicle requires increased steering effort to break through the physical stickiness, causing the vehicle to suddenly jerk. This poses an immediate crash hazard as it makes maintaining a straight line or making minor lane corrections incredibly dangerous for myself and other drivers on the road.3. Dealer/Independent Confirmation:The vehicle was previously taken to an authorized Honda dealership for NHTSA Campaign 24V-744. The dealership performed a temporary grease/spring intervention and marked the recall as "Completed" or removed on my VIN. The mechanical failure has now returned and worsened at 76,000 miles. A secondary local dealership has verbally confirmed the steering rack requires full replacement but is refusing to formally diagnose or inspect the failed safety component without an out-of-pocket $210 diagnostic fee.4. Entity Inspection:The component was previously inspected and serviced only by an authorized Honda dealership during the initial recall rollout. It has not been inspected by police or insurance.5. Warning Lamps & Prior Symptoms:There are currently intermittent "Steering System Problem" and "Lane Keeping Assist / ADAS Failure" warning messages appearing on the dashboard. The primary symptom is a distinct "sticky" or "notchy" resistance when turning the wheel. These symptoms first appeared gradually over the last several thousand miles following the failure of the initial dealership recall remedy.

Failure of my Electric Power Steering General Assembly/Steering Rack and Pinion in my 2016 Honda Civic EX sedan while driving at highway speeds. My steering wheel sticks or feels notchy at highway speeds requiring physical effort to overcome the binding. A highly reputable independent automotive shop (Gearheadz) in [XXX] has confirmed in its diagnosis that this is a dangerous defect that needs to be corrected. The odometer on my 2016 Honda Civic EX has only 70,000 mileage as of XXX. My car is in very good condition except for this manufacturing defect by Honda.. I discovered in my research that Honda has issued a massive safety recall for an identical physical safety hazard on 2022-2025 Honda Civics, but excluded the 2016-2021 model years. Hundreds of other owners have documented the exact same dangerous "sticky steering" symptoms at highway speeds in their Civics that predate the 2022-25 recall. My out-of-pocket expenses to correct this problem will exceed $2,000. The expense would more than double that amount if I let Honda repair or replace the steering rack and pinion problem. Clearly, Honda knows about this issue and yet has decided to limit its recall on the manufacturing defect that is NOT cause by the owner. On August 11, 2026, AutoNation Honda Lewisville confirmed that my A/C Condenser and Compressor Shaft Seal failed and required replacement under Honda’s extended warranty (Extension 6A5). However, they identified that the evaporator core—a component within the exact same pressurized loop—failed concurrently due to pipe corrosion, contamination, and pressure imbalances caused by the acknowledged defective parts. AC for this vehicle is already having 10 years for 2 problems condenser seal and compressor shaft seal was leaking. But this issue caused the evaporator core to corrode and hence evaporator core had to be replaced. Honda dealer charges 2600 dollars for this repair. Please open a recall for entire AC system and do not let go Honda unaccountable for such a huge problem with this 10th generation civic. Please have them cove the evaporator core in the AC warranty that is extended for 10 years. Vehicle is a safety hazard to be driven in 110 F heat and is dangerous with AC system fails, there is no other option but to repair such and issue and customer has to foot the bill of 2600 dollars. Please help.

My 2017 Honda Civic just had a known BCM issue and many with the same models year from 2016-2018 experience the same failures. Honda should have a recall because it's where the car unknowingly drains the battery and the engine sits in idle/accessory mode that is damaging to other parts that the customer have to expense for.

Check airbag light is on. I'm paying $175 to see what's wrong with an airbag on a perfectly maintained car. Inspection is pending. Safety systems should be covered to at least 100,000 miles.

The Body Control Module (BCM) on my 2017 Honda Civic suffered an internal failure, creating immediate safety hazards. The defect caused persistent parasitic battery drain, sudden vehicle power loss, and erratic electrical behavior. A faulty BCM can cause critical safety components—such as exterior lighting, turn signals, and windshield wipers—to fail without warning while driving. Honda has already recalled 2018–2020 Accords and 2019–2020 Insights for identical BCM programming and hardware failures (NHTSA Campaign 20V771000 / Honda Campaign X95). My 2017 Civic utilizes similar BCM architecture and exhibits the exact same dangerous failure symptoms. This component defect is widespread across multiple Honda platforms from this generation, and the safety recall must be expanded to include the Honda Civic before a catastrophic electrical failure results in a crash or injury. I had to replace the unit entirely out of pocket to ensure the vehicle was safe to operate.

Steering wheel: Cable reel failure, loud clicking noise when turning at 20k miles, replaced factory cable reel, within 10k miles replacement had failed as well. Current cable reel is also defective, dealership advises ignore the noise. Dealership has reproduced noise and has replaced 2 cable reels. No warning lights, just randomly starts clicking when turning left at first then over time very loud when turning either left or right. Unsure on if it could cause a steering failure.

I've owned this 2016 Honda Civic since May of 2025. At first I never experienced any issue from the steering, that is when I started to notice that my steering felt like it would be sticking, like you couldn't balance yourself on highways or speeds exceeding 30+mph. I started doing my own research and discovered that other civic owners (10th and 11th gen) were experiencing similar issues. I'm hoping Honda takes notice of the reports being sent in and issues either a recall or a fix to this problem.

This vehicle had a recall from which an extended warranty was given from 10 years of purchase unlimited mileage. The condenser and compressor came defective from the manufacturer. I strongly believe they should include the A/C Evaporator as well. As i know i am not the only one with these issues. This issue is had fixed back in 2022 where one side blew cold air and the hot and white stuff spewed from the vents.

2018 Honda Civic is having the same issue as Honda noted on a safety notice below: [XXX] My steering wheel clicks when turning, often sticks, and can be heard if standing outside the vehicle. The dealer ship which sold me this car is Dick Brooks Honda in Greer, SC. I went to them about the issue and they refuse to help. I had 2 private mechanics look at the car and both mechanics agree it is the same issue as the one listing in this media release. I am more than happy to have a member of NHTSA see, drive, and observe the vehicle. This is dangerous and Honda nor their dealership are doing anything about it. One of the Mechanics I took the car to called Honda and they did nothing to address the issue. Dealership offered to fix it for $5873. This is a safety issue that I guess affects more than just my care and I would like some help please in getting this recalled and fixed. Thank you so much! While driving my 2025 Honda Civic Touring, the electric steering system suddenly malfunctioned without warning. While entering/navigating a roundabout, the wheels forcibly straightened out on their own, overriding steering input and causing the vehicle to crash directly into the roundabout curb/barrier. Prior to this sudden steering lockout/binding event, there were no known performance or handling issues with the car. Following the impact, the steering remains unsafe to operate, experiencing binding, severe misalignment, and persistent inability to steer smoothly. Mechanics have replaced the passengers lower control arm, ball joint, sway bar link, the passenger side strut tower, and two front tires because of the camber caused damage to the tires, but the vehicle's camber remains out of spec and the underlying steering binding/stiffness remains unresolved. I believe an internal defect or electronic lockup in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system caused the vehicle to lose steering control prior to the impact.

The steering wheel was sticking when the wheel was turned. Problem for several months, progressively got worse. Checked for a recall and spoke to a Honda representative and was told my car was not manufactured at the facility that had the recalls for the Honda civic 2018 models. I had to pay $4578.90 out of pocket to have the same trouble as the other recalled models.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the compressor shaft failed, and the shaft seal caused further damage to the compressor and caused an additional failure. The contact associated the failure with Technical Service Bulletin: 23-039. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed the vehicle with compressor failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the warranty only covered the shaft seal and not the compressor. The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.
