I bought a 2020 Ford F150 XL with 83,000 miles on 27 JAN 2026 from a local Phil long Kia dealership. I started to notice that the shifting was very harsh immediately after buying the truck and that the transmission was dropping the gear when I was driving at stoplights and even when I was entering an intersection almost causing an accident. I notice the issue more at slow speeds and in lower gears. Today is 19 FEB 2026. I brought the truck to a local ford dealership and they told me that the transmission needs to be replaced.

MFTR Recall 28S75 NHTSA Recall 25V 455 This is a safety risk recall issued over 7 months ago and Ford still does not have a remedy to fix the problem. So far my F150 has not experienced the problem, but do I just keep driving and one day the vehicle stops running, maybe while I'm traveling on an interstate at 70 mph. I think it's time to pressure Ford for a fix before someone has a tragic accident. Thanks

The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V512000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made abnormal rattling sounds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that the rear axle hub bolt had fractured, causing damage to the rear axle shaft; however, the parts to repair the vehicle were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that parts were on backorder. The contact was denied the vehicle buyback. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

My transmission started down shifting on its own while driving one morning and the check engine light and wrench light illuminated. I took it to the dealership that afternoon and had the conductor board replaced. They said it was the speed sensor that malfunctioned.

Truck started smoking from under the hood in the area of the battery compartment while driving. Then truck burst into flames. 53,000 miles. No injuries. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue came to the scene with report number XXX-XXX and can be reached at [XXX] . Sticker shows built in May 2019. There was a recall 19S40 which applied to vehicles made in June 2019. So I was only one month prior to the official recall date. However, 19S40 specifically mentions fire risk. I believe my truck had this defect and was not recalled when it should have been. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact's husband owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while her son was driving 60 MPH, the driver lost control of the steering wheel and the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted, and the vehicle almost came to a complete stop. Despite the failure, the contact's son was able to drive the vehicle back to the residence, and the vehicle was parked and remained parked at the residence. The dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. 10 speed transmission started to have hard shifts and dead spots. Some shifting issues happened at low speeds(1 thru 5 speeds) and then others showed at highway speeds; downshifts from 10 to 8 gears. Issue with transmission stated at around 142,000 miles but became very problematic at around 145, 000 miles. At this point I had to get a new transmission; cost was approximately $10000.00. This was a remanufactured transmission with 3 years or 100,000 miles. Note - I really like the truck but the Ford recall plans are terrible; I've already had the cam phaser replaced, front wheel bearing, and internal water pump. This probably cost another $7000.00. A lot of money for a truck that has pretty limited miles.

While driving my F-150 I made a turn and when I went to accelerate again, the truck acted like it was in neutral - would not go. Engine continued to run but would not accelerate. A second car was directly behind me and almost rear-ended me when truck failed to move. Pulled over, tried low gear and reverse and nothing happened. Transmission is shot. Currently in for a rebuild. This is the Ford 10-speed trans, which has been known to fail. I only have 33,000 miles on the vehicle. Could've been much more dangerous had I been on the freeway when it failed.

Driving approx 40mph on the road and a loud thump sound followed by grinding from rear end started. Came to stop in the road and when the gas pedal was pushed the grinding sound continued. The truck was pushed off the side of the road and had to be towed to the dealership since January 4th. It has been at the dealership with no estimate of time for repair from the dealership so far and we just keep being told there is nothing they can do. The dealership states that the parts are on back order and we are in a line of several other trucks with the same problem.

The vehicle is experiencing a chronic, documented loss of engine coolant with no external leaks identified, accompanied by a persistent odor of burning coolant. Despite nine months of notification and two separate Ford authorized dealerships attempting repairs, the defect remains unresolved. To date, dealerships have performed only 'surface-level' pressure and dye tests. They have refused to perform thorough diagnostics despite the clear evidence of consumption. This creates a severe safety hazard: coolant loss on this engine platform is a known precursor to sudden engine stall and potential engine fire. By failing to identify the internal leak path, Ford is requiring me to operate a vehicle with an unpredictable mechanical deficit. The absence of a Warning Lamp (CEL) does not mitigate the risk; it confirms a mechanical failure that the current onboard diagnostics are failing to capture before a catastrophic event occurs.

My 2022 Ford F150 wouldn’t start one morning. There was power and a lot of codes came up on the dash pod. I had it towed to the Ford dealer and they confirmed a no start situation. They replaced the under hood fuse box (warped from heat) and ultimately found a chaffed wiring harness with corroded and broken wires. It’s my opinion that a wiring harness is not a wearable item and this was caused by a friction situation. It’s my opinion that this could potentially be a safety issue if I was driving the vehicle and this happened it would be a total loss of power. The Ford dealer repaired the 2 wires and re-taped the harness.

The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while stopped, the vehicle hesitated and shuddered while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and failed to move even while in neutral(N). Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a defective fuel pump. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V455000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact was provided with an estimate for the repair, which the contact approved. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The vehicle produces an extremely loud static or popping blast from the speakers at startup or during operation. The volume controls do not respond and the noise can only be stopped by shutting the vehicle off. The sound is ear-piercing, leaves ringing in the ears, and startles the driver. This has occurred more than once. One incident happened while driving on the freeway and nearly caused a loss of control due to the sudden and extremely loud noise. Another occurrence was captured on video while the vehicle was being operated at low speed. The condition occurs without warning and cannot be reproduced on demand. The vehicle is equipped with the B&O Unleashed audio system. No warning lights or messages appear prior to the event. A dealer acknowledged the condition and indicated that a module reprogramming is required to correct it. Ford has issued Special Service Message (SSM) 51663 addressing loud static from the audio system in affected vehicles. Despite the vehicle being under an extended warranty, the corrective repair is being classified as a software update and quoted as a customer-paid repair. This unexpected loud audio blast presents a safety concern due to driver distraction and potential hearing harm.
