Travel aprox 40 mph. Rear wheels abruptly lock up. Truck skids to a stop. Extremely dangerous situation luckily no accident occurred. Truck is at 72k miles. Warranty is 60k miles. Truck is currently at dealership and they consulted GM engineers at corporate and were told to replace the valve body and it’s $2500 but they will not cover any of the cost. I’m afraid that this wheel lockup will happen again. Especially considering the bandaid fix there recommended. They refused to buy the vehicle back and do not seem the least concerned that my safety possible dead could result from what truly is gm cheaping out on manufacturing the value body from an appropriate metal instead of cheap cast aluminum which is the root cause of all gms transmission issues.

I was driving and came to a stop at a red light. When accelerating on green the transmission would not go into gear, stalling my vehicle. Nearly causing the vehicle behind me to rear end me. The vehicle eventually went into gear and started to slowly accelerate with shuttering of the transmission.

While towing a trailer on a highway during a trip, my truck experienced a catastrophic engine failure with no prior warning. I was driving at highway speeds when the vehicle suddenly lost all engine power, creating an immediate and dangerous situation. I had to use extreme effort to steer the truck and trailer off the road and onto a narrow shoulder. There was no safe breakdown lane, and we were stranded for over eight hours waiting for assistance. Due to the size and weight of the trailer, the truck and trailer had to be towed separately, further complicating the situation. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Chevrolet dealership, where it was diagnosed and confirmed that the engine failure falls under the ongoing 6.2L V8 engine recall. The dealer stated the engine must be replaced under the recall. Unfortunately, that was over eight weeks ago, and I have still received no timeline, no updates, and no meaningful support from either the repairing dealer or the selling dealer (which is located three hours away from the incident site). Since then, my vehicle has remained undrivable, and I have had no access to alternative transportation. I was offered a reimbursement of $44 per day toward a rental car, but the process requires me to pay out-of-pocket and submit extensive documentation for potential reimbursement. Without knowing how long the delay will be, this could result in thousands of dollars in unreimbursed costs, which is simply not sustainable for me. This situation not only created a serious safety risk during the initial breakdown but has left me without reliable transportation for two months, with no indication of when my truck will be repaired. The lack of communication and accountability from GM and its dealerships is unacceptable given the known defect.

During acceleration my vehicle had a whinning noise coming from near the transmission. It will buck and then when slowing down to a stop it bucks like being hit in the rear by another vehicle. It also shudders and makes the reduce engine power light come on.

2020 Chevy Silverado LTZ 6.2 V8 10 Speed. Started having issues with hesitation/shudder. Dropped off at a Chevrolet dealership for a diagnostic. The dealership pointed to a potential transmission issue. After having the truck for several days, they reported nothing wrong. Said they drove the truck, checked the transmission fluid, and couldn't find any issues. Picked up the truck and took it to a local repair shop. That shop drove it, but could not re-create the issue I was describing. I opted to have the transmission fluid flushed in hopes of fixing the shudder/hesitation I was feeling. After picking up the truck and driving it a couple hundred miles, the issue was still present. I made another appointment at the same local shop. This time, they called me saying the issue I'm feeling is the same problem that's been happening to these engines, the dreaded AFM (Active Fuel Management) system is starting to fail. I was told by the shop it's only a matter of time before the entire engine fails. The only way to fix the issue is to delete the AFM system by removing the old parts within the engine and replacing with new parts that do not use the AFM system. This would cost approximately $6,000 to complete.

Component/System: The Allison 10‑speed (10L1000) transmission valve body catastrophically failed on [XXX], while driving Sunday afternoon down Galveston Seawall Blvd. The truck abruptly dropped from 45 mph into limp mode in heavy traffic, forcing me to pull into the bike lane to avoid being rear‑ended. The vehicle remains at Classic Chevrolet (Galveston, TX) awaiting the OEM valve body—which is on national backorder—and the complete transmission assembly is likewise unavailable. The failed valve body and transmission are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: Unexpected limp mode and gear lock‑up in heavy traffic create an immediate risk of rear‑end collisions or side impacts as surrounding drivers have no warning of sudden deceleration or loss of drive. Reproduction/Confirmation: Classic Chevrolet diagnosed and confirmed the failed valve body on May 12, 2025. Their service advisor and my assigned GM Case Agent (#[XXX]) have both acknowledged the defect but report no parts available for repair. Inspections: The vehicle has been inspected by Classic Chevrolet under warranty. GM Customer Care has reviewed my service orders and correspondence. No police or insurance inspections occurred, as no collision ensued—however, the roadside inspection at Classic Chevrolet confirmed the mechanical failure. Warnings/Symptoms: There were no prior warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure. The valve body failure occurred without any advance indication. Vehicle was brought to Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston on 6/16/2025 because Tailgate would not open with the button and only would open with the fob. They stated no parts to fix and did not advise of the severity of risk from the recall when picked truck up. Saturday afternoon [XXX] while leaving a parking lot and driving on the feeder road the tailgate opened resulting in the large ice chest that was full of water bottles ice and and storage containers with food to fall on road along with battery power fan and several extra batteries. These items unexpectedly sliding down the feeder resulted in several cars making defensive maneuvers nearly resulting in several crashes and the ice chest bumping 1 vehicle. All lanes of traffic stopped and several people helped to pick up the debris off the road. No information from people who stopped was collected, and no report from driver of truck that hit cooler. Was driving on the interstate on [XXX]. While driving, the truck suddenly slowed down and lost power. The check engine light came on and then after about a minute a message popped up on the dash saying that the truck was in reduced-power mode to prevent engine damage, or something like that. It slowed to roughly 50mph and I had to drive for maybe 5 miles to reach the next exit, narrowly avoiding collision from behind with cars driving upwards of 75. Pulled off the road to the first parking lot, then got towed to the nearest Chevy dealership in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The diagnosis was a blown connecting rod that had occurred while driving on the interstate, resulting in a necessary total engine replacement. The truck was repaired in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the dealership. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving my truck the engine completely shut down. All the dash lights came on initially but then only the check engine light stayed on. My truck never would start back up after that. It was towed to GM dealership who diagnosed catastrophic engine failure.

As I am driving, the truck shutters off and on and its shifts hard when shifting gears. I drive long distances daily and if the transmission fails, this could cause an accident that could put the safety of my children’s lives, or mine, at risk. It has not yet been inspected, but I spoke with several transmission specialists and have been told this is a very common issue among 2021, and other year models close to that, Chevrolet Silverados. The cost for confirmation would be upwards of $1000, which is not something I am able to afford. There have not been any warning lights or lamps. Only shuttering and harsh shifting.
