The contact stated the company they work for owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission would slip intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the transmission failed. The transmission was replaced. When attempting to start the vehicle it failed to start. They had to jump-start the battery to start the vehicle. The battery was replaced by O'Rileys, a battery specialty shop. Approximately a year later, while another employee was driving at approximately 65 MPH when smoke began coming from underneath the vehicle's hood. The driver pulled over and exited the vehicle. The fire department came and put the fire out. The fire department informed the contact that the cause of the fire was because the battery caught fire. The fire department filed a report. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. There were no injuries or need for medical assistance. The contact spoke with the dealer who informed them that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering failure warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the power steering function was independently reset. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first but had become a persistent failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,250.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Wiring harness problem resulting in loss of power to a/c, and other electrical components such as radio scrolling without being called for, only small portion on left side of touch screen works. Problem previously reported under 11516530. Dealership that sold me the vehicle and other automotive shops want $75 or more just to look at the problem. Current mileage on this vehicle is just over 50,000 miles. [XXX] living in Florida and I have been without a/c since last summer. ENGINE
Upper radiator hose rubber grommet failing at 22k. Had a severe coolant leak coming from top radiator hose blowing back onto hot motor which could have turned into a fire quickly. I was lucky! A lot of GMC Canyons and Colorado's are all reporting the same problem around 22k miles. It is currently at Grossman Chevy Old Saybrook, CT for repair.

ENGINE
There was a catastrophic engine failure of a 2021 Colorado 3.6L V6 engine. The engine has been replaced by GM and the failed engine is in the dealers' possession. While driving on a congested street, the engine misfired and immediately stopped. The vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of 3 lanes. Occupants had to flag down traffic while pushing vehicle to the side. There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms, such as knocking, prior to the failure; and the oil service was maintained per manufacturer. Two separate dealers found "piston to valve contact, top of piston severely damaged, and metalic debris in intake plenum." GM Service Bulletin 19-NA-256 has identified "Seized engine" caused by defective "crankshaft main or rod bearing failure" that can put the oil filter "in by-pass and distribute unfiltered oil with bearing debris throughout the engine." In addition to the rod bearings, designated inspection points are the cam caps and camshaft journals on the heads and the timing change idler sprocket for stiffness when turning. Since the vehicle was 15,000 miles over the 60K warranty, they would not perform the designated diagnostic steps in Service Bulletin. Owner waiting on independent oil analysis. Service department provided pictures of metallic debris and valve damage, as well as the damaged spark plug. After opening Case # 9-14977425869 with GM Customer Service and asking why Warranty has not been extended or a Recall issued for the known manufacturer defect in the TSB, the response was "it likely has not occurred enough times to warrant a recall". With a dealer discount, total towing, diagnostic and repair costs exceed $11,000. Results of Blackstone Labs oil analysis will be provided when completed, however, the oil was just changed 462 miles prior to the failure, so a sample of the previous oil that would have contributed the most to the failure was not available (6,948 mi on previous oil).

Independent service center has confirmed it's the same as 2015 recall. Yes, an independent service center has the truck since April 25. Yes, power steering warning and stabilitrack came on with loss of power steering

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the steering failed to respond, and the steering became difficult to turn. There were no warning lights illuminated; however, messages “Loss of Steering Assist” and “Stabili-trac” were displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle regained steering functionality. The contact was able to dive the vehicle to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The service power steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 107,000.

Power steering keeps going out will be driving and all of a sudden it's just quits going very dangerous very hard to steer especially not knowing when it's gonna happen. I hear that the 2015 model that recall for some reason the 2016 MODEL DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS REASON. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. This has happened numerous times, mostly time. I can turn the car off. Wait a minute and turn it back on and it clears up and sometimes it may take days before it happens.

The power steering will randomly stop working while driving. Is very dangerous when it goes out mid turn. There is no warning sign it just goes out. Stopping and turning the truck off and on typically fixes the issue. This appears to be a recall on 2015 Colorados but 2016s are having the same issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When my right turn signal clicks off, it activates my left lane change signal. Took to dealer and was told it functions as it was designed because the tech found two other vehicles that did the same. I've never had a vehicle do that. I don't want to be cut off because of this issue. GM sides with the tech. No one designs vehicles that function way. Been that way since I got it and I keep getting a snow job from dealerships.

Was driving the truck down a straight and smooth road when I suddenly got an error message that both Stabilitrak and power steering had failed. The lack of power steering makes it very difficult to turn and if it had failed during a turn, it could've potentially caused an accident.

As many other complaints regarding the power steering system failure (350 total), the vehicle will randomly lose power steering with the driver display indication of "Service Power Steering" and "Stability Control Disabled". The vehicle becomes very hard to steer. Once the vehicle is shut off and restarted after 10-15 seconds, the power steering will be active again. This has happened multiple times over the last 3 weeks. It does make it quite dangerous as there is not warning as to when it might happen again.

i have a 2023 Colorado and its only got 69,000 miles. my Crank shaft seal went out with no warnings. No dash lights or oil lights. ive read online where is this has happened to a few colorados. I had 0 oil on my dipstick and didn't have one check engine light on.

Started the truck and got a Brake System Failure, Service ESC, Service Trailer Brake System, Traction Control, Forward Colission, ABS, Check Engine Light and Parking Brake Warning light flasing. Also the Auto Start Feature works less than 10% of the time.
