Situation

Micro-movements combined with frictional corrosion can lead to increased wear on the longitudinal splined connection between the double clutch transmission (DCT) and the transfer box. This wear can compromise the integrity and performance of the transmission system.

Correction

The corrective action involves adding spacers at the connection point between the DCT and the transfer box. This measure is designed to decrease the micro-movements, thereby preventing further wear and ensuring the longevity of the components.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair process for the 2024 BMW X1 double clutch transmission rework requires following specific repair instructions. Technicians will primarily use Repair instruction 31 60 004, which details the steps for removing and installing or replacing the right output shaft. Accessing one of the bolts for the spacer requires the starter motor to be removed or moved aside.

If instruction 31 60 004 is not available in AIR/ISTA, Repair Instruction 27 10 110, titled "Replace radial shaft sealing ring for connecting shaft right" can be used as an alternative. However, it is important to note that, contrary to instruction 27 10 110, it is not necessary to replace the shaft sealing ring with part number 27 10 8627023 during this service action.

The procedure involves several key steps:

• The stabilizer link (1) must be removed.
• During reinstallation, bolts 2 and 3 are replaced and tightened to 100 Nm with an additional 90° torque angle.
• Two specific bolts (1) on the transfer case are removed.
• These bolts are then replaced and tightened to 100 Nm with an additional 90° torque angle.
• Washers are installed between the link and the transfer case. It may be necessary to slightly push the transfer case to the side to facilitate washer installation.
• Finally, the right axle is reinstalled.

Reimbursement for this Service Action, identified by Repair Code 0028240100 (U10 U11 Reworking DKG connection - transfer box), will be processed via normal claim entry using applicable work package information. Work Package #1 (Labor Operation 00 75 871) is for completion before first vehicle delivery, while Work Package #2 (Labor Operation 00 75 284) applies when the vehicle arrives at the service center with an open service action.
