Why This Matters
The Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) is a critical step for all new Audi vehicles, including the 2021 Audi Q5 and SQ5. This detailed checklist ensures that every component and system functions correctly and meets Audi's stringent quality standards before the vehicle is handed over to the customer. A thorough PDI helps prevent early ownership issues and ensures a premium driving experience from day one.
Key PDI Reminders for Technicians
Audi emphasizes several key reminders for technicians performing the PDI. All inspection items must be completed by a certified Audi technician before customer delivery. It is recommended to use an Audi-approved battery charger during the inspection to prevent excessive battery discharge. The Guided Fault Finding system must be utilized, and the session completed and sent to GFF Paperless. The Total PDI Test, which involves the scan tool, must be finished before any other scan tool-related work.
Technicians should start Guided Fault Finding with the engine running to identify control modules in transport mode. For items marked with an asterisk (*), technicians should refer to the PDI Technician Reference Document on ServiceNet. Items marked with a double asterisk (**) require following instructions for stock inventory vehicles.
Updated PDI Items
This PDI document, effective September 8, 2020, includes specific updates to ensure comprehensive checks. In the Vehicle Preparation section, the instruction for verifying the Audi phone box customer registration form now explicitly includes adding the serial number, "FCC ID, and Model" from Elsa (if equipped). This update refers to TSB 2051720. Additionally, the Media/Radio/SAT section now requires technicians to "Confirm SiriusXM is on and in an active state (can scroll through channels and hear music)". A dedicated Audi Phone Box form has also been added to the end of the document.
Important Warnings for Delivery
There are crucial warnings that technicians and owners should be aware of regarding vehicle delivery and the Audi Phone Box. The vehicle must not be delivered to the customer if the emergency call function has not been successfully activated (the LED must light up in green). It may take up to 20 minutes for the emergency call system to activate after flight/transport mode deactivation.
For vehicles equipped with the Audi Phone Box, it is considered a "CONSUMER device". Owners must register this device with their wireless provider and obtain consent before use. The device must be operated with approved antennas and cables as specified by the manufacturer, and antennas must be installed at least 20 cm (8 inches) from any person. Operation of the device must cease immediately if requested by the FCC or a licensed wireless service provider. A critical "WARNING. E911 location information may not be provided or may be inaccurate for calls served by using this device." is also noted.
