In certain situations when stopping briefly and then accelerating the pedal is dead. For a short amount of time the accelerator does not work and then it launches the truck forward aggressively. There has been a few instances when I am turning left and the truck does not move and I am stuck in the middle of oncoming traffic before the truck suddenly lurches forward.

I am reporting a latent manufacturing defect in my 2024 Toyota Tundra i-FORCE MAX (Hybrid). This vehicle is equipped with the V35A-FTS engine, which has been officially recalled in non-hybrid Tundra models (NHTSA Recall 25V767) due to internal machining debris that causes catastrophic engine failure. Current Situation: Although my vehicle has not yet experienced a total engine seizure, it contains the exact same engine architecture and manufacturing origin as the recalled units. I am filing this complaint because Toyota has excluded the Hybrid models from the safety recall, citing that the electric motor acts as a safety backup. Safety Concern: My safety and the safety of my passengers are at risk because this "safety backup" claim is unproven and potentially false. Data from other owners suggests that a catastrophic V35A engine failure triggers a system-wide "Hybrid System Malfunction," which can disable all motive power, power steering, and braking assist. Driving a vehicle with a known "ticking time bomb" defect—where the engine could seize at highway speeds—creates a high-risk environment for a high-speed collision. Request for Action: I am urging the NHTSA to investigate the i-FORCE MAX Hybrid models and compel Toyota to expand Recall 25V767 to include all V35A-equipped hybrid vehicles. The exclusion of the hybrid model is a bypass of safety protocols that leaves owners like myself driving a vehicle with a documented manufacturing flaw that the manufacturer has already admitted requires a full engine replacement in other configurations. Inspection: The vehicle is available for inspection; however, the defect is internal and was caused during the manufacturing process, making it invisible to standard dealer inspections until the point of failure.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Throttle lag, was stopped at a stop sign and had an opening to go, when I pressed on the gas the truck went as normal and then completely stopped accelerating. By the time it accelerated again it jolted the truck and was narrowly missed by cross traffic.

When coming to a stop and then trying to accelerate to turn into a street I get an abnormal amount of throttle lag. There’s even times it seems to lag and then registers that I am trying to accelerate quickly causing me to “burn out” while I’m turning and no I am not accelerating crazy. There’s been a few close calls where I almost lose control of the vehicle.

2023 Toyota Tundra experienced repeated engine stalling and vehicle lock-up while driving on public roads, including in an intersection. During one incident, the driver was thrown forward into the steering wheel. A Toyota dealer attempted repair by replacing the neutral/park safety switch, but the repair failed and the dangerous condition persisted immediately after. The vehicle has been removed from use due to safety concerns. The issue is consistent with known engine stalling concerns affecting certain 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles. The vehicle is unsafe to operate.

I was driving down the highway about 5 minutes, it was 34 degrees outside, family in car (with baby). No cars in front of me at all, didn’t drive through an underpass, didn’t hit any potholes, and out of nowhere the front panoramic sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gunshot in my truck cabin. Thankfully I keep the sunshade closed or else glass would have flew into my pregnant wife’s face and my baby’s face. I believe most glass was captured in my sunshade, going to the dealership first thing tomorrow morning. Not excited on what the response will be, google shows a lot of mixed reviews. This is a 5 month old truck, very frustrating to have this happen to my first brand new vehicle.

When slowing down to a stop but not stopping completely then speeding up to enter another street or an intersection there is a 1-2 second hesitation before the truck reacts and actually moves. This is very scary and dangerous as it can cause an accident with oncoming traffic in certain situations. Toyota knows about this and does not have a fix for this defect.

I am writing to report a serious issue with my vehicle’s throttle response. When accelerating from a stop, the vehicle consistently hesitates and feels as though it may stall, leaving me vulnerable in traffic or at intersections. This problem has already resulted in three very close calls, two of which required police involvement. I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle under these conditions. I have attempted to trade out of the vehicle, but the offers I’ve received have been significantly reduced due to the widely known nature of this issue. Please advise on the next steps to address this matter. Safety is my top priority, and I believe this situation requires immediate attention. Thank you for your prompt response.

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the contact noticed an abnormal and clamoring sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V767000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the parts were not yet available. The contact was offered the option to leave the vehicle in the dealer's possession, and the contact was also offered a loaner vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

My 2022 had a new crate engine put in at 26,000 miles in approx June 2025 (told me it would be 2 days but in less than 24hrs the service advisor called and told me it was completed) and from the second I picked up my truck and started it at the dealership, I heard a loud, fast ticking noisy sound coming from under the hood so I popped my hood and it sounded like a diesel engine and as I started driving I felt a weird popping/vibrating noise when turning either right or left at slow speeds and it felt like there were no shocks or motor mounts or something was bent and the rear end was skipping and making a loud thud when slightly stepping on gas pedal and Toyota said it's all normal. It also lost all power while I was driving 2 days after I picked it up from engine replacement along with the continuous surging forward when taking off from stop sign or red light. My front seat is cracked and they refused to fix it under warranty, my brakes squeal so bad and they said they ordered parts under TSB but it will be months before they come in, it's now been 7 months and still nothing. I will not drive further than 10 miles from my home Every time I get in this truck and put it in D, I fear for my life and when I put it in P, I breathe a sigh of relief. AutoNation Toyota in Weston, Fl replaced my engine and I truly believe that whoever put my new engine in, didn't put it back together correctly and damaged the suspension/steering system as well as the new ticking engine that is so rough. My new 2nd engine needs another engine. I feel like this truck is going to get me killed.

On July 31, 2024, my vehicle lost power while driving on the freeway and I had to make an emergency stop. Luckily I was able to do so safely. I brought the vehicle to Toyota Dealership South Bay to report this issue. The dealership inspected the vehicle but stated that they were unable to diagnose or replicate the problem and returned the vehicle to me without repair. The issue persisted and/or reoccurred after that visit. On November 6, 2025, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing issued Safety Recall No. 25V767000 (NHTSA Campaign Number 25V767000), titled “Debris in Engine May Cause Stall.” According to the recall, debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power. The recall applies to certain 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with the V35A engine and affects approximately 126,691 vehicles. The recall states that a loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. The defect described in Recall No. 25V767000 appears to directly explain the issue I reported to Toyota Dealership South Bay on July 31, 2024, more than a year before the recall was issued. At the time of my service visit, no recall, safety warning, or remedy was disclosed to me, and the concern was not resolved. Toyota has indicated that the remedy for this recall is currently under development and that interim notification letters were mailed to owners on December 16, 2025, with a final remedy to follow. This condition presents a significant safety risk because an engine stall and sudden loss of drive power can occur without warning while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.

Unintended acceleration. When you stop the truck, and have the brake on, the rpms go down to idle ~650. As soon as you lift the brake, without touching the accelerator, the vehicle starts ramping up the rpms and moving. On level ground it will go to 1000 easily before you have to stop it. It will pull up a grade even while towing my boat. If you're in a line a traffic, say at a traffic light, and the light changes, traffic moves and the car ahead takes off their brakes, and you do same, the truck starts moving faster than the vehicle ahead without touching anything. It's idling too fast without the brake and doesn't stay at idle once the brake is off before you push the accelerator. First the dealer told me everything was "Normal" - it's supposed to do that. I've been driving vehicles since 1962, so I think I know what I'm talking about. They told me to call Toyota. Toyota started a case. They took it in for an factory inspection because I think this might be related to a non highway collision with a bldg, I had shortly after I got it, I'm not sure. I put into park in a parking space but apparently it didn't engage, only into reverse. I was looking for something and the truck started backing up and hit the gas station bldg close behind. The anti-collision was off, because you have to turn it off to tow. And I hadn't turned it back on yet. This truck has way too many audible alarms and very annoying, especially when backing or exit the vehicle. I don't need to know that I'm out of the vehicle.

On December 23, 2025, while driving at highway speeds, I began to hear a loud knocking sound. The sounds increased and a "low oil pressure" warning appeared on the dash. I began to loose power and the knocking sounds increased. I was able to carefully get the truck off the highway and parked to be towed to a local dealership. The loss of power while on the highway put myself and my family at risk due to not being able to keep at speed with traffic, and the possibility of being stuck on the side of a highway if I was unable to make it to the next exit. The vehicle experienced the same symptoms prior to the engine seizing in July of 2025. At that time the vehicle was not included in a recall campaign, and a short block replacement, rather than a complete engine replacement, was completed by Toyota.

The vehicle has a recurring safety-related defect where there is a long, unpredictable pause (1–3 seconds) between pressing the accelerator from a stop and the truck actually accelerating. This hesitation occurs when pulling away from a stop sign, traffic light, or after braking to a stop in traffic, and is not normal throttle response or turbo lag. During this delay, the engine revs slightly but the truck does not move, creating a dangerous situation where the vehicle fails to respond when expected, especially in intersections or when merging. After the pause, the truck often surges forward abruptly, which can cause jerking and loss of control.

While driving today the engine check light turned on, and the engine turned off (stalled) while in the middle of the road with a good amount of traffic around me. I pulled off to the side of the road and gave the engine a minute. I turned the truck back on again, the engine sounded very rough turning on and rough while driving. After a minute or two of driving, the engine light turned on again, and the engine stopped (stalled) again while in the middle of the road. I stopped this time for two minutes or so and turned the engine on again. I then proceeded to try to make it home, which I accomplished, but the truck's engine sounded rough and with a chattering sound (engine knocking) even when idling. I have received a recall notice letter concerning " Certain 2022-2024 Model Year Tundra Vehicles Engine May Stall During Driving." I possess the letter with the NHTSA Recall Number and the Toyota Recall Number. In the letter, it mentions the condition for which it is being recalled. The conditions are as stated in the letter. "Machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start, and/or a loss of drive power. A loss of drive power while driving can increase the risk of a crash." My truck has experienced all of the disfunctions that are stated in the recall letter. I would like for Toyota to look into this and remedy this problem before it ends in a major fatal crash or any other unfortunate circumstance. Thank you!
