POWER TRAIN
I am filing this complaint against Nissan North America due to a recurring transmission failure in my 2019 Nissan Sentra VIN#: [XXX] . Timeline of Events: Initial Purchase: November 2022 (61,000 miles). First Failure: September 2023 (~75,000 miles). Nissan replaced the transmission under the extended CVT warranty (84 months/84,000 miles) established by the Martinez v. Nissan class action settlement. Second Failure: March 2026 (109, 497 miles). The replacement unit has failed after only 31,000 miles of use. Nissan will not cover the repairs due to the mileage being out of warranty. The estimated cost per McGrath Nissan Dealer is $8,000, I am unable to afford this service so the car was towed back to my home until able to get resolution. Issues with Nissan’s Resolution Process: Premature Part Failure: The transmission installed by Nissan in 2023 should have a reasonable life expectancy beyond 31,000 miles. A secondary failure this soon suggests a defective replacement part or improper initial repair. Safety: Luckily, my husband was stopped at a traffic light when the transmission failed. However, had to receive help to push the vehicle out of the busy intersection. There was no warning message displayed on the dashboard prior to this incident. At right under 67,000 miles, the car made a loud pop when I went to accelerate from a stop light. The car would only work in reverse at that point. I'm being told that the CVT needs to be replaced. The car isn't even worth the cost of a new transmission.

The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 MPH, the parking braking independently activated. The failure occurred a second time, and the parking brake unintendedly activated. There was no warning light illuminated. On the third occasion, while driving approximately 45 MPH, the parking brake activated unintendedly, causing the vehicle to stop abruptly, nearly causing a crash with another vehicle. Date of purchase from dealer: right passenger door lock non-functional. the salesperson had to have the door opened from the outside to exit the car. He took the care to be repaired while the paperwork was completed. Subsequently I have been unable to exit both doors without pushing the UNLOCK button. The door handle does not itself open the door. 2. Both screens flicker/dim/darken, and at times are completely black for up to 5 seconds. 3. The rear passenger seat belt is extremely difficult to latch with child safety seat in place. The car was taken to two different dealers without any repair/s completed. I was told the door lock having to be manually opened was a 'safety feature'. I was told that the screen dims on purpose related to a monitor on the dash. I brought a video of it happening. It happens in the dark with no streetlights or change of lighting. I was told that the back passenger seat belt "works fine if you don't put a child safety seat there." The dealer who sold me the vehicle states they have no record of repairing the right front door lock the day of purchase. I had my niece with me in the car and witnessed the problem. When I asked for a copy of the service completed, they stated that they have none.

Summary: I am reporting two significant defects on my 2025 Nissan Sentra that pose safety risks. 1. Suspension/Steering: During low-speed maneuvers (approx. 20mph) such as navigating roundabouts, there is a persistent mechanical creaking/squealing noise from the front passenger side. The dealership technician verified the noise but provided a physically impossible diagnosis, claiming "tires were slipping," despite the vehicle being brand new with tires in perfect condition. This suggests a defect in the control arm bushings or strut mounts which affects steering predictability. 2. Power Window/Electrical: The driver-side window produces a loud, piercing screech when operated. More critically, the window switch has experienced intermittent functional failure where it becomes unresponsive. This is a safety hazard as it could prevent emergency egress or cabin ventilation. Manufacturer Response: > Both issues are documented and have been reported to Nissan Consumer Affairs (Case #56515863). However, the manufacturer stated they have "no solution" and directed me to argue with the dealership. No technical specialist has been assigned to inspect these safety-related mechanical and electrical failures. The vehicle is available for inspection.

The infotainment/radio system in my 2021 Nissan Sentra intermittently reboots and produces static. When this happens, the backup camera freezes or shuts off completely. This has occurred while I was actively reversing, causing a sudden loss of rear visibility. The screen either goes black or restarts, making the backup camera unavailable. This is a safety concern because the backup camera is required for safe reversing, and the failure happens without warning. The issue occurs repeatedly and is not driver-related. The problem appears to be related to the head unit malfunctioning, which disables the backup camera system.

I was driving down [XXX] towards [XXX] to go and pick up kids from school. All of a sudden I heard a weird noise and the next second the steering wheel got pulled to the right very hard as if tire came off and this resulted me hitting the curb and after stopping the car I got out to see and then I noticed the whole control arm was broken which resulted in wheel turning right very hard. I leased a new 2026 Nissan Sentra SR from O'Neil Nissan at 849 W Street Rd, Warminster, PA 18974. Couple of days after leasing the car I had trouble starting it. I took it to Service at O'Neil Nissan. They checked the battery and put a new software version on my car. Now my dashboard doesn't come on right away when I start my car. I have to wait close to a minute for it to come on. This presents a safety issue. The camera doesn't work, I don't have maps loaded. What is the point of safety features if they don't work? I called the dealership, schedule another appointment, but they are basically telling me the software update probably has glitches and it just takes a long time to load the screens. What's with the guessing? Why aren't they taking the issue seriously. The worst part is that the gauges don't load sometimes and there are no manual gauges. So it appears that the dealership wants me to drive blindly without gauges. It makes no sense and it puts the driver and other people in danger. Something needs to be done about this.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
The CVT transmission, which Nissan has had many issues with per the large number of class action lawsuits, failed while I was driving the vehicle on a main street in San Diego. The vehicle showed no indication (warning light) that there was any engine failure or issue. The CVT transmission just died unexpectedly while the vehicle was moving with traffic. I brought the vehicle to Mossy Nissan in National City and they confirmed the CVT transmission failed. The vehicle only has 87,762 miles on it. Nissan claimed they are not responsible. I only learned of the large number of CVT transmission lawsuits once this happened. They have broken their lawsuits into different vehicle years, makes, and models so to avoid listing this issue as a recall across the brand.

2020 Nissan Sentra Backup Camera. The camera periodically goes out only displaying a blue screen. Researched and discovered it was a recall. Went to the dealership and asked them and they said my cars recall was marked as completed back in 2023 to which I had no knowledge of. The issue was not resolved and was just marked as cleared without proper inspection. Dealerships are refusing to fix the recall since it was already (incorrectly) marked as complete.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2019 Nissan Sentra. The contact discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 78,129. It was later discovered from a Carfax Report that the mileage was 86,239.

Erractic rpms. Shakes/hesitant on take off from stop. Accelerator can be pushed all the way and it goes 5mph. Shifting takes a good minute with shakiness. Can not drive in rush hour traffic almost got accident many times.
