- #11579992March 28, 2024SEAT BELTS
Front passenger seat occupancy sensor has failed resulting in an illuminated seat belt warning even when the front passenger seat is unoccupied. Workaround is either to clip the seatbelt in all the time or put a black piece of tape over the warning light. Either workaround degrades safety as the intended operation of the warning light is bypassed.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Leaf. While in the driveway of the residence, the contact started the vehicle with his foot on the brake pedal; however, the vehicle rolled. The contact depressed the brake pedal to the floor, but the vehicle continued rolling until it struck a rock wall. The failure occurred without warning. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. There were no injuries sustained. There was no Police report filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with an electrical failure, and that the brake booster had failed. The vehicle was not repaired due to a dealer not being in the area where the contact resides. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V119000 (Service Brakes) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

Brakes did not engage when depressing the brake pedal. No warning lights in the dash. Car was used a few hours prior with no issues. No other warnings of the failure occurred before or during my attempt to brake, aside from the lack of braking action. Occurred at a stop sign cross traffic, I turned into oncoming traffic, cutting off the other car but avoiding a collision. I confirmed the brakes did not work at the subsequent stop light, used parking brakes to stop at the side of the road. Minimal braking action seem to be present when I fully depress the brake pedal. Brakes worked normally the next day. Dealer service center states the intelligent brake control unit needs to be replaced for $5000, which is around the current value of the vehicle.

While climbing the incline section of the San Mateo Bridge in the fast lane, the Leaf shifted itself into Neutral and would not shift back into Drive. With no power, driver was forced to change lanes to the right with no power, but luckily made it over the top and down the decline to pull over. Vehicle did not want to shut off or shift. Dealer confirmed bad battery. This occured Nov. 27th, 2023. And the car is still at the dealership as of March 24, 2024, waiting for a replacement battery.

I pulled into a parking spot and to ensure I stopped when I wanted to, I braked. The car accelerated, smashing into a building. I always drive in eco mode and generally use the e-pedal which was on at the time. I’m not sure if either or a combination of those may have been a factor in what happened. The car is available for inspection upon request. I was fine, but very shaken. The car is driveable, but the front bumper is mangled and the left blinker no longer works. The headlights are functional. The charger panel releases and I can pry it open, though it no longer pops up. No airbags were deployed. The car was going slow enough, there seems to be no damage to the building. I'm concerned what could happen when we drive into our garage or, worse, if there is a car or pedestrian in front of our car and rather than braking the car accelerates. I have seen several reports of similar experiences, though no resolutions or suggestions. I can imagine this being a one-time occurrence, but I am deeply concerned it is not. I've been at a loss in who and how this can be addressed. I have called several Nissan dealers. The service people that I spoke with were not optimistic about what they could discern and, more importantly, did not seem concerned. As a result, I called my long-time car mechanic who did some initial diagnostics, but they were inconclusive. There have been no other inspections. I have reported this to Nissan USA and have opened a case/claim. I don’t recall any warnings at the time. All recalls have been updated.

This is a report of what I think is a safety issue with the Leaf vehicle but has not caused an accident or incident for me, yet. If the Start button is pressed and then the Shift Control is changed to quickly the car will be put into Neutral instead of the desired Drive or Reverse. If the driver does not realize this and removes their foot from the break when the car is on a steep hill the car could roll into a vehicle, pedestrian or other obstacle before the surprised driver has a chance to break. The Leaf vehicle should not go out of Park if it is not ready to go into Drive or Reverse when the driver is trying to shift it into Drive or Reverse.

In January 2024, The rear camera on my 2019 LEAF SL PLUS failed to work. I took it to local Nissan dealer and they indicated that could be a loose connection. They accidentally tap on the camera and it return to function for a while. I reported this to [XXX] in January. An agent called me and after a month of evaluation he told me Nissan Consumer Affairs could not repair for me on this item. Their previous recall on the rear camera on other Leafs does not cover the this vehicle with this VIN number. My rear camera currently does not work. Our Nissan Leaf experiences dangerous behavior while driving on the freeway. After approximately 23 miles of driving, the car suddenly displays a slippery road sign (The day is dry, no rain) and significantly reduces speed on its own. Attempting to accelerate has no effect. To ensure safety, we activate the hazard lights and pull the car to the side. Only after turning off the car and restarting it does the issue resolve temporarily. This situation poses an extreme risk, as any nearby vehicle could collide with ours during this sudden slowdown. Safety Concerns: Given the severity of this issue, we are genuinely frightened to drive the car daily. Unfortunately, we have limited alternatives for commuting to work. Our safety and the safety of others on the road are at stake. Our Nissan Leaf experiences dangerous behavior while driving on the freeway. This issue started in early 23 but it was not very often so we thought this might be a glitch and did not happen for few months. but then it started happening once or twice a month. since January 2024 it started happening more often and now it is happening almost every day. When I was drivimg on the highway, the battery rapidly plummeted from 50% to 5%. The car urged me to pull over. After pulling over, the battery rose back up to 50%. If I had not pulled over, the car would have entered "turtle mode," which limits the motor's power and can reduce the car's top speed to below 20mph. These low speeds are especially dangerous on interstate highways and could pose a crash risk.

Brake warning sign came off and the car won't shift out of parking brake, causing the passenger to get stranded. Upon dealer inspection, there's defective wire hardness which has been noted in Nissan service bulletin Ref: NTB19-054a. Dealer confirmed that it is bulk wire harness issue and will require replacement (~$3.2K for part and labor). i have reported to Nissan since the leaf has 22k mileage only, but rejected by Nissan that it is a manufacturer issues. Please investigate this as i have seen many similar issues with other Leaf owners and it will be un-safe to have parking brake issue suddenly pops up, where it will brick and unable to move the vehicle. Thank you.

My back up camera is having issue, like becoming dark, multicolored and pink. It is not safe to back up especially when it rains. I purchased this car two months ago (December, 2023) and this problem started a month ago, sometimes it works fine but mostly is not working. I contacted the Nissan dealer I purchsed from but they did not confirmed the issue and I know a lot of people (in Facebook group) who has the same issue with their Nissan Leaf even with new 2023 models, mine is 2020. When I called the dealer to inspect they are charging me $130 just to inspect. It's 25,000 miles on this car, this is pretty new car. Thank you!

Goes into neutral in a matter of seconds while driving at highway speeds and goes into turtle mode while on highway. A scan of the vehicle showed a number of low battery voltage codes (P0AA0, P3180, P3182, P08AF) stored when the battery was disconnected. Nissan gave no ETA on battery replacement.

As soon as I left with a 80% from Kendall by the time I got to my destination (Plantation 30miles) I had 20%. On 1/1/2024 I left the plantation at around 6:30pm. I Charged the vehicle to 100%. After 35min of driving at 70 miles per hour I noticed that I only had 20% charge (30miles). I stopped and charged for 3hrs, because I needed an application to charge, and only 1 charging machine was working. I was able to charge 99%. I drove another 30miles and noticed that I only had 40miles left to continue driving, I had to stop again. 1hr after driving I started getting messages the vehicle was overheated, and to slow down. I started driving 60miles per hour in the turn pike. I stopped every 30min because the vehicle was overheating, and it was discharging. Issues with the Vehicle: 1) once you drive over 65 mph for 30 minutes the car starts overheating, you have to stop at that point. 2) The GPS is not able to provide you with an accurate list of places to charge. 3) The vehicle discharges fast. 4) I was informed that the vehicle has an additional part that is not part of the vehicle that could be affecting the battery (OBD2) and that the original warrantee will not pay. anything because of that. 5) it shows that you have 100% battery or 105 miles but it’s not accurate. A trip that would take me 4hrs and 30min took me 17hrs. When I arrived at Citrus County, I was only 21%, I knew I was not going to be able to make to my house. I started calling the insurance who were able to assist me with the Vin number. I drove the car to a location where I could charge the car for couple hours to only get 26%. I called Nissan Jenkins of Homosassa 937 S. Suncoast Blvd Homosassa Fl 34448, spoke with Benjamin L. I arrived at Nissan at 11:30am. I took the vehicle straight to Jenkins Nissan in Homosassa, where I arrived with only 10% of charge. PLEASE NOTE THAT I CAN NOT UPLOAD THE PICTURES AND THE SUMMARY.

The backup camera does not work correctly. It shows blank in stead of surrounding video. Sometimes closing the back cover again can fix the issue but most of time no video is displayed.

Infotainment system frequently resets. This occurs rarely at times while driving (inconvenient, not a significant problem) but it frequently occurs within 10 seconds of starting car at which time the backup camera cannot display. This is a safety concern because it means backing up without safety backup camera working.

- #11561987December 27, 2023UNKNOWN OR OTHER, BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS
When backing up after opening or closing the trunk the backup camera flashes blue and green with lines on the screen. It sometimes worked again when the trunk is slammed or the car is restarted. The safety was put at risk because I was not able to see the ground when reversing and there was a blind spot that the camera usually fills in.

- #11561110December 20, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
About 3 months ago, I took this car in after receiving a recall notice for unexpected acceleration while on adaptive cruise control even though this was an issue I had never experienced before. But on monday, driving in stop and go traffic in light rain (intermittent wipers on slow setting), all of a sudden the car started accelerating directly towards the car 20 feet or so in front of us; the brakes had to be manually slammed on to bring the car to stop with now only 2-3 feet or so between the two cars. This was very alarming. When I spoke to the dealership about them needing to fix this safety issue and how I thought it must be related to the recall, they said it could not be given it first happened 3 months later and I would have to pay for an evaluation and if they found anything wrong for the repair. I am reporting this and would like to know if other Nissan Leafs are seeing the same issue post-recall repair. I will say it doesn't happen all the time since I like and use adaptive cruise control regularly. I carefully tried it after this event but with much more distance between me and the car in front and it did slow the car down as it normally does when traffic slowed, but again, I never got as close to the car as this time and it was not raining so who knows. I have reported this to Nissan corporate and was told someone would call me back in the next few days.
