My safety and others safety was put at risk when I was driving on the freeway. The front glass panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof detached from the vehicle. It sounded as if the entire sunroof shattered and something crashed into the vehicle causing myself to swerve, duck for cover and nearly crash into the median causing a near accident with my passenger as a witness. The car directly behind me was noted to swerve almost hit the median following the noise. In the moment I had no idea what happened until I had to pull off the freeway to assess what happened. This is when noted the the front panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof was noted to be broken off. The vehicle was recently inspected by an official Mercedes Benz service department prior to this and then by an official Mercedes Benz Body Shop following the damage. There was no warning lamps or any symptoms or signs of damage prior to this failure. There is several noted recalls on other VIN models for Mercedes GLE 43 for this exact same issue of failure to this specific front roof panel but for some reason my vehicle VIN is not included. It is noted that the front roof panel between the windshield and panoramic roof may not have been bonded on correctly or the bond can deteriorate and can detach from the vehicle causing a road hazard and increasing risk for a crash.

NHTSA Campaign ID: 23V854000 is an expansion of campaign ID 21V197000 but is still too narrowly focused and needs to have the investigation re-opened. While driving at highway speed the glass panel on the body that is attached between the windshield and panoramic sunroof experienced an unexpected and total adhesive failure causing the glass body panel to become airborne and projectile at highway speed. Luckily it landed on the highway and shattered without injury. The two recall campaigns reference this exact failure on cars where the panel has been previously replaced, however there is no information to suggest the original need for a previous repair. In this case, the vehicle did not have a previous repair on record, yet Mercedes claims this problem only exists in previous repair scenarios and refuses to complete the repair under the recall. Logically, one of these two things MUST be true: 1.) The adhesive failure is born from the assembly process in the factory, in which case the recall should be expanded under the same safety concerns as the previously cited campaigns and Mercedes should be compelled to make the repair. 2.) There was a previous repair done to this glass on the vehicle and proper records were not maintained by Mercedes, in which case it falls into the scope of the previously cited campaigns and Mercedes should be compelled to make the repair. I attempted to work directly with Mercedes on this but after escalation, they denied the request for repair under courtesy repair or under recall scope. I'm hoping for help from the NHTSA as simple logic suggests that either the vehicle should already be in scope of the recall, or that the recall scope is too narrow and was not properly investigated. Mercedes attempted several illogical excuses in an attempt to avoid responsibility, but they strained credulity at best. This same complaint even appears several times on the NHTSA page for this vehicle make/model, and the report doesn't list VIN.

Bought a 2020 Gle 350 used with 55000 miles on it. Within 3 weeks the check engine light comes on and the car goes into limp mode. Cannot drive it. Took it to Mercedes of Wilmington. They said it was a misfire on 4. They replaced all spark plugs and the coil to cylinder 4. Another month later the same thing happens. Took it back to Mercedes. Stated the car needs a new cylinder head at the cost of 12000$. This seems to be a common problem on these vehicles. A recall is needed immediately

At 48,000 miles the cylinder head needed replaced. This was done under warranty. At 73,000 miles the engine started making a horrible noise and power was lost and acceleration very choppy. Had it towed to the dealer. Dealer diagnosed the issue as a Rod bearing failure and requires the engine to be fully replaced. This occured while driving, fortunately I had just gotten off the highway, otherwise the vehicle would have lost acceleration and speed and would have created and unsafe situation. The engine light never came on, neither before or after the noise and loss of acceleration.

- #11658932May 5, 2025SEAT BELTS
The rear seat belts are faulty. I had to pay out of pocket for the rear middle seat belt repair and now the rear right side is faulty and does not budge or move pass a point. I am concerned that each time these do not work, I will be out another thousand dollars for repair. Seat belts on some of my oldest cars continue to work. This should not be happening especially to a newer vehicle. I need help and by that I want Mercedes to cover the cost. It's very stressful. Thank you for hearing my concern.

- #11656939April 26, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
When accelerating in hybrid mode, the vehicle loses power and forcefully reduces speed. A "Performance extremely limited" message appears on the driver console. Sometimes it goes into "turtle" mode, limiting performance until the car it is turned off. Sometimes the "check engine" light comes on, with or without the "turtle" light. This is a safety issue when you are trying to accelerate onto a highway and the car reduces speed, thus increasing the risk of being rear-ended in heavy traffic. There are times when the car loses power and there is no emergency lane to move into. The car has been taken to the dealership's service department multiple times and the issue has been confirmed. They tried updating the software but it did not resolve the issue. This occurred for the first time about 4 months after purchasing the new vehicle. It had 3500 miles on it. There are many reports of this happening to others. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle loses power while driving and flashes "Performance Extremely Limited." We have had this happen in intersections and while getting on the highway almost causing an accident on more than one occasion. When this occurs the vehicle decelerates quickly, will not use the batter and basic functions like the air conditioning stop working.

- #11656143April 22, 2025SERVICE BRAKES
I dropped my [XXX] to a class and was driving the car to run an errand, when I experienced a sudden and total brake failure. The first couple of times I hit the brakes, it felt a little too squishy, but I could still stop the car. Within two minutes, by the time I got to the next traffic light, I was unable to stop the car. Luckily I was at low speed and was able to turn into a residential neighborhood immediately and somehow stop the vehicle within a reasonable distance. Fortunately, the street I turned into, had no cars parked nearby. This was a frightening experience and could have ended very badly for my family had we been on the freeway. Please note - My car was serviced by Park Place Mercedes in Dallas only 2 days earlier, I had not even driven it 50 miles after it was serviced, when the brakes failed on me. I had the car towed back to Park Place Mercedes in Dallas, and they told me there was an air pocket that caused this issue. Turbo oil separator blocked, causing internal pressure pushing oil out of the rear main crankshaft seal. Since the oil level is monitored electrically (no dipstick), the engine can run out of oil, resulting in catastrophic failure while driving, causing a dangerous condition or accident

- #11654957April 16, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL
The contact owns a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH with the cruise control activated, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to 15 MPH. The contact became aware that the cruise control system had changed the set speed independently. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence, with the vehicle accelerating or decelerating independently. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact was advised that the cruise control should not be activated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 1,500.
