The vehicle has a transmission (powertrain) malfunction that first appeared in July 2025, a few weeks after I purchased the vehicle and after the warranty had expired. At the time the issue began, the vehicle had well under 80,000 miles. The transmission slips, fails to properly engage, and cannot provide sufficient power, particularly when accelerating or driving uphill. The vehicle struggles to move forward and behaves unpredictably during normal driving conditions. This defect has put my safety and the safety of others at risk. On one occasion, the transmission failed while I was driving and I became stuck in the middle of an intersection, unable to accelerate, creating a serious traffic hazard. The issue has been reproduced consistently and has persisted despite repeated transmission fluid services. Multiple mechanics have inspected the vehicle and have indicated that the problem is not due to lack of maintenance, but instead is likely caused by the transmission not being properly filled with transmission fluid at the time of manufacture. Despite servicing, the problem continues, indicating an internal or manufacturing-related defect. I have also been in contact with multiple owners of the same make and model vehicle who report the same transmission failure, suggesting this is a widespread issue rather than an isolated incident.

The contact owned a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 25-30 MPH, another vehicle struck the front driver side, flinging the vehicle to the right side before another vehicle crashed into the front passenger side. The air bags failed to deploy. No warning light was illuminated. The contact's husband sustained back injuries, while the contact suffered a concussion. Medical attention was received for both. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

The car has been diagnosed with internal engine failure by both an independent service center and a dealership service center. The issue was described as a rod timing issue causing knocking, leading to failure of the engine. A light was not on for a majority of the issue but did start flashing before car became completely undrivable. The car was sold to me with this issue and has been driven for nearly 3 years with a power loss issue that was dismissed as turbo lag or other issues. Driving a car with this issue that does not alert with a check engine light is a major threat to driver and passenger safety as it can result in engine seizure and vehicle fires. The engine issues began at the least before 58,000 miles, with total failure occuring at roughly 96,000 miles. Hyundai is known for this issue, particularly in turbo model engines. Only once during ownership of the car did the check engine light come on prior to engine failure. When checked, it was described as a catalytic converter issue. The service center also did an oil change on the car, and the light went off. The check engine light did not come on again for more than a year. The check engine light did not come on until after the issue was diagnosed by the independent service center it was taken to in January 2026.

My 2019 Hyundai Tuscan has been burning oil and the oil has to be topped off every 1,000 miles or so. There are multiple check engine lights illuminated: abs, front collision, traction. These lights have flashed off and on for 3 years but are not light up solid. This sounds like an issue.

There is a major problem with certain year Hyundai vehicles from 2016-2021 with the engine burning oil and clogging up the exhaust. My moms vehicle has been at dealership for evaluation and combustion cleaning multiple times and the problem still continues. There has been times where she is driving car and it starts to bog down and loose power which is a safety issue especially if on highway. The vehicle is burning oil, occasionally have to add oil. The engine light does come on at times. The car has been at dealership for recommended oil consumption test at every 1000 miles and has not passed. Combustion cleaning done each time and sent on way. Called and made complaint with Hyundai corporate and and got no where. The tech department at Hyundai factory gave dealership recommendations to do which were completed and still having same issue. The factory was only willing to cover 70% off the cost of new catalytic convertor and my mom to be responsible for remaining balance. Hyundai claimed that the convertor was out of warranty 8 years/80,000 miles even though this has been going on for past 2 years. This is not a problem caused by consumer but an issue with factory. Hyundai not living up to there 10 year/100,000 mile warranty as they advertise. There are facebook groups with people having same problems as we are with dealership not really doing anything other than combustion cleaning as advised by factory and corporate not doing anything either. I believe this is a major safety/defect issue with engines in these Hyundai Vehicles . What happens when someone is on the highway and the vehicle bogs down and another vehicle comes from behind and slams into you?

On [XXX], my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid displayed a red dashboard alert instructing me to “stop vehicle and check brake system.” The vehicle experienced brake system warnings and a loss of power steering, requiring me to pull over. I immediately contacted Hyundai through the Bluelink system, and the Bluelink operator confirmed that multiple fault codes were visible in Hyundai’s system. I scheduled a Hyundai service appointment at the next available date. On [XXX], before the scheduled service appointment could occur, the vehicle experienced a sudden and total electrical failure while traveling at highway speed (approximately 65 mph). The vehicle lost propulsion and displayed brake system warnings. After reaching the shoulder, the vehicle also lost hazard lights while disabled in heavy rain. The vehicle was towed via Hyundai Bluelink to a Hyundai dealership and removed from service. The occupants at the time of the incident included my wife and my minor child. The loss of propulsion, braking warnings, power steering, and hazard lights created a serious risk of a rear-end collision and injury. Due to repeated and escalating safety-related failures involving electrical, braking, and steering systems, I no longer consider the vehicle safe to operate. Purchased this car used 3 years ago. Followed owner's manual for oil and filter changes. On 1/2/26 the engine seized, had it towed to Hyundai dealership and they will not approve a replacement for the engine because they said I hadn't followed maintenance guidelines. I submitted all receipts and they still are denying. I had the KSDS and all Hyundai campaigns addressed which was to extend the warranty and they still deny. NO WARNING LIGHTS whatsoever came on until the engine seized on the parkway. Hyundai knows there is an issue with these engines but still won't step up.

The engine and engine management system of my 2018 Hyundai Tucson experienced repeated failures resulting in loss of propulsion and unsafe drivability. In November 2025, while traveling approximately 75 mph on a freeway, the vehicle suddenly entered limp mode without any prior warning, causing an abrupt loss of power in active highway traffic. No warning lamps or messages appeared before the failure. After the loss of propulsion occurred, the check engine light, battery light, and oil light illuminated sequentially. Diagnostic trouble codes P1326 and P0326 were recorded. Initial inspection indicated severe oil consumption despite a recent oil change less than 2,000 miles earlier. A Hyundai dealership replaced knock sensors under warranty. Shortly after release (30 miles), the vehicle again exhibited severe drivability issues, including a flashing check engine light, and required immediate towing. A second Hyundai dealership replaced the short engine block under warranty. Approximately 180 miles after the engine replacement, the vehicle again developed unsafe drivability symptoms, including delayed throttle response, failure to accelerate unless the accelerator was fully depressed multiple times, jerking or lugging when slowing or stopped, and a faint whining noise. The check engine light illuminated again. These failures represent repeated loss of propulsion and unsafe operation following manufacturer-approved repairs, including full engine replacement. The vehicle has been out of service for approximately 57 days and remains in the custody of a Hyundai dealership awaiting diagnostics. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The sudden and unpredictable loss of power at highway speed created a significant risk of collision and serious injury to the driver and surrounding motorists.

On my husband's way home from work he explained to me that the car had a "hiccup" and then an engine light blinked on, then it died at an intersection. He was pretty close to home so he got it started again and drove it home. He replaced spark plugs and coil packs and it still had a misfire. We took it to an auto repair shop where they did a scan and told us it had a dead hole in cylinder 2 and that it needs a full engine replacement. The car also had an oil change just before Thanksgiving. My husband checks oil regularly and added a quart a month before the oil change and it seems to consume more oil then it should.

On December 27, 2025, while driving, the engine suddenly lost power and the vehicle entered limp mode and became undriveable. A warning light appeared and diagnostic code P1326 was later confirmed, indicating engine bearing failure. The vehicle could not be driven safely and required towing to a Hyundai dealership the following day. The engine failure caused a loss of propulsion safety risk. The vehicle remains out of service pending a full engine replacement. The vehicle is available for inspection at a Hyundai dealership.

As I was pulling into a parking space in a parking garage, the vehicle's engine revved, tires squealed and then the vehicle propelled forward on its own, without my foot being on the accelerator. The vehicle only stopped when it hit a support column and the wall of the parking structure. There was extensive damage to my vehicle and to the parking structure wall. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk due to the car accelerating on its own. The problem has not been confirmed or reproduced by the dealer, but we did take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and they said they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle that would have caused the unintended acceleration. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer, the insurance company and an investigator for Hyundai. Hyundai infomed us that they are not taking any responsibility for anything that occurred and that they will not share their investigator's report with us. There were no warming lamps or messages related to the problem prior to the failure. However, there have been other occasions while driving on the open road when the engine has revved on its own and I told Hyundai about that. In doing our own research, we have found that there are other 2023 Hyundai Tucson drivers who have had this exact same problem (unintended acceleration causing a crash) while pulling into parking spaces. Additionally, the air bags did not deploy during the collision and therefore the incident was not recorded by the EDR.

The fuell door will not open on the vehicle, and I am not able to put gas in the vehicle. Have taken it to a mechanic and he is unsure of what is going on. For a 2022 Vehicle this seems very odd.

am submitting a safety complaint regarding my Hyundai vehicle due to repeated engine power loss (limp mode), excessive oil loss, and a denied engine recall replacement. I initially brought my vehicle to the dealership after experiencing engine power loss/limp mode, engine oil loss, and illuminated check engine warning lights. The dealership confirmed that my vehicle was covered under an engine recall and stated that the recall procedure was completed. As part of this process, the dealership performed an engine combustion-related service and charged me approximately $1,600. After this repair, I drove the vehicle for approximately 1,000 miles. When I returned the vehicle to the dealership, the vehicle entered limp mode on the same day it was brought in, and the check engine light was illuminated again. The dealership advised me that the vehicle had lost an excessive amount of engine oil during the 1,000-mile period. Due to the continued engine issues and oil loss, the dealership requested a full engine replacement under the recall. However, Hyundai denied the engine recall replacement request. The vehicle’s repeated loss of power, excessive oil consumption, and limp mode create a serious safety concern, especially while driving at normal road speeds. I am concerned that the recall remedy was ineffective and that the denial of an engine replacement places drivers at risk. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter for potential safety defects and improper handling of a known engine recall issue.

- #11710567January 13, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I have experienced 4 repeated issues within 4 months with my vehicle. Starting in September 2025 and the 4th and current issue today 1/12/26. Driving when all of a sudden all of my brake components lamps come on dash oard, forward collision alert, and check engine, my vehicle struggles to accelerate accurately. Blue Link diagnostic throws various codes such as ECM, Transmission Control System, even "multiple possible issues". Each time my vehicle has been at Hyundai dealership for repair. Each time they repair something different 1st- replace ABS module and hydraulic brake, 2nd - happened out of state at my mother funeral and replaced my ECM, 3rd couldn't figure it out and guessed it was my Forward collision camera and replaced it, 4th - is today and awaiting dealership diagnosis. This issue has left me stranded several times local and long distance, occured in middle of driving including on highway, and overall uncertain of the safety and reliability of the vehicle as each time it has been the same type of issue. I have been in communication with Hyundai Corporate since October and they stated that even tho I only have 24k miles on the vehicle that it is outside the state of IN lemon laws for a buyback. If I hadn't purchased an extended warranty I would be in even more debt or unable to put it in the shop even tho I don't feel like this should be my burden when I have kept this vehicle in great shape, low mileage, frequent oil changes, etc . however the safety of my vehicles goes unresolved. At this point I am uncertain that Hyundai is properly diagnosing my vehicle and not certain how these issues are impacting other components of my vehicle such as brakes, transmission, engine, sensors. I am the only owner of this vehicle bought brand new. I have checked repeatedly for any recalls that I have not addressed and at this time none are pending. I fear that this vehicle will continue to have more safety issues.
