This engine has 70,000 miles on it and has burned a quart of oil every 2500 to 3000 miles, two full quarts between oil changes. In talking to others Hyundai owners, they have similar issues. I have owned multiple other brands of vehicles with well over 150K miles and they did not burn any oil. Fords, BMWs, Volvos, and Subarus.

Window regulator and motor have failed due to plastic gears stripping out. I have replaced my two front windows in 2024 at $1063 a window. This week I had both rear windows fail allowing the windows to drop down unexpectedly. I was able to manually pull the windows up and tape them. I was supposed to receive a call from Hyundai twice this week about getting these covered under a recall since all four has failed, but they have failed to contact me.

On January 25, I was driving on the freeway and my moonroof front panel exploded. It was a loud bang, and completely unexpected. This could have caused an accident. After the glass exploded, I pulled over only to realize the glass had hit another cars windshield and broke their windshield. I am lucky this didn’t cause an accident.

NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Report I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect involving the rear seatbelt in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited. The vehicle currently has approximately 6,000 miles, and this issue has created an extremely dangerous situation for passengers. While traveling out of town, the rear passenger seatbelt suddenly jammed and would not retract or release properly. The belt became completely stuck and unusable. Three adults attempted to safely unjam the seatbelt, but it would not retract or function as designed. Because the restraint system failed, the rear seating position became unsafe and unusable. We were forced to arrange alternate transportation for our passenger because it was not safe or legal for them to ride without a functioning seatbelt. This failure represents a major safety concern. A seatbelt is a critical safety component that should never lock up or become permanently jammed under normal use, especially on a nearly new vehicle with very low mileage. The inability to secure a passenger created a hazardous situation and could have resulted in serious injury if an accident had occurred. I am contacting Hyundai Customer Affairs today to formally report this safety issue. I will also be taking the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and repair, as I do not feel it is safe to drive the vehicle until the defective seatbelt is properly repaired and confirmed safe. Given that seatbelt failures directly impact occupant safety, I believe this issue requires immediate investigation. A restraint system that becomes stuck and cannot be used is unacceptable and poses a significant risk to drivers and passengers. I am requesting that NHTSA review this defect, investigate potential manufacturing or design problems, and determine whether other vehicles may be affected.

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument cluster displayed a blank image. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a rear-view camera display failure. The contact was informed that the rear-view camera display needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer multiple times for failure. The contact referenced an unknown recall repair with a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 100. The VIN was unavailable.

- #11715203February 3, 2026POWER TRAIN, ENGINE
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated, and there was a ticking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where a mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a knock sensor failure. The knock sensor was replaced. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle was included in Manufacturer Campaign: CS966 for the transmission control module (TCM). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the vehicle was included and the software update was performed. After the vehicle was repaired, the check engine warning light was no longer illuminated; however, approximately 30 minutes later, the vehicle failed to exceed 35 MPH, and the check engine warning light started flashing. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the software update caused the vehicle to enter LIMP Mode to protect the engine. The dealer informed the contact to drive the vehicle for 30 days or a total of 500 -1000 miles, and if the vehicle continued to enter LIMP Mode or failed to operate as needed, to return the vehicle for the engine to be replaced. There were no additional repairs performed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

I am having issues with the main window switch for the second time. 1 out of 3 windows goes down but not back up. Also I took it for a check up and found nothing but the engine is making a loud noise and shakes the car when in drive. I don’t feel safe driving this car sometimes.

My windshield wipers quit working in the middle of a snow storm. I’ve seen there’s a re all on some 2019 Hyundai Tucson’s for the wiper motor. Wondering why mine isn’t included.

there is a "consider taking a break" / coffee cup message that appears on the dashboard and BEEPS uncontrollably. It is annoying and distracting. It is of ZERO VALUE since it is always FALSE. It came up 5 times on my first 45 mile highway drive. this is NOT safety feature and in fact is REDUCING safety as it it annoying and makes me frustrated/mad instead of calm. Hyundai says there is no ability to disable it/turn if off as there was in their previous models.

Hyundai has deemed the HORN to be defective and they state there are no replacements for them. This has caused me great concern to my safety as I am not able to alert other drivers of lane intrusion, parking lot back ups ect.

- #11714678January 31, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The forward collision avoidance system in this generation of Hyundai tucsons is dangerously flawed. We previously had a 2020 and no issues, but this one slams the brakes at the drop of a hat and has nearly caused several accidents as there is no good reason for the intervention (ample space to leading vehicle) and it brakes so hard that cars behind typically need to veer to avoid rear end collision. This is not a one-off event or linked to particular driver/driving style - both adult owners of this vehicle have experienced this on multiple unrelated occasions. All sensitivity setting have been set to minimum and the only way to drive with peace of mind is to completely disable the system - but here is where the next massive design flaw is: the system automatically reenables at each re-ignition; there is not permanent override, which is EXTREMELY dangerous. It is not practical to manually disable the system on each drive because you need to navigate multiple system menus to adjust the setting. Google and user forums confirm this collision avoidance system is a widely experienced and complained about safety issue for Hyundai and it should be investigated. People will likely get killed due to this “safety feature”. Ideally Hyundai should push a recalibration for those who want this feature AND enable a permanent override option in the system settings for those who don’t.

- #11714404January 30, 2026ENGINE, POWER TRAIN, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
On January 7, 2026, shortly after delivery of a used 2015 Hyundai Tucson (VIN [XXX] ), the vehicle experienced immediate mechanical failure while being driven, resulting in sudden loss of power and drivability. Multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard at the time of failure. The vehicle became disabled and left the occupants stranded roadside in Fairhope, Alabama. The exact component that failed is UNKNOWN at this time. The failure appears related to the engine, powertrain, fuel/propulsion, and/or electrical systems. The vehicle was not operable after the incident. On January 8, 2026, the selling dealership (Sandy Sansing Nissan, Pensacola, Florida) towed the vehicle back to their dealership. The vehicle has remained in the dealership’s possession since that date and is available for inspection upon request. This sudden failure created a significant safety risk due to loss of propulsion while in traffic and exposure to roadside hazards. The problem has not been independently repaired or evaluated by the consumer. No manufacturer inspection has occurred to the consumer’s knowledge. The dealer has not provided a diagnostic report or repair findings. No warning lights or symptoms were disclosed prior to delivery. The failure occurred almost immediately after delivery. The vehicle was sold and delivered by a licensed dealership. The sale is currently in dispute because the vehicle became disabled almost immediately after delivery due to this safety-related failure. - #11714439January 30, 2026AIR BAGS, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
The contact rented a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the vehicle would stop and would restart independently while driving. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, the vehicle failed to respond on several occasions while the gear shifter was in reverse(R). The contact stated that the failure occurred while there was a vehicle parked behind the vehicle or further away. There was no warning light illuminated. The rental company was informed of the failure. Additionally, the contact stated that upon shifting to reverse on one occasion, the vehicle responded, but unintendedly accelerated. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was stiff and failed to respond, causing the vehicle to crash into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The contact stated that the distance between the two vehicles could fit two parked vehicles. The contact stated that her teenager was occupying the front passenger's side seat during the incident. The contact stated that the front passenger's side and driver's side seat belts failed to restrain the passengers as needed, causing both passengers to use their arms to protect themselves. The police officers arrived at the scene but did not file a report. Both passengers sustained arm, neck, and head pain but declined to be transported to the hospital by ambulance. The contact stated that the gear shifter was locked after the crash and required two hands to move to park(P). The rental company was informed of the failure. The contact was able to drive the vehicle back to the residence. The vehicle was driven to the Rental Company the following day. No further information was available. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,292.

- #11714101January 29, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was driving down the highway going about 60-65mph with cruise control and LKA on. I turned my blinker on to switch lanes, checked my blind spot, and moved over to the left. As I was doing so, a semi switched lanes from the left into the right (my new lane) right in front of me. The truck then slowed down a lot, and usually my Forward Collision Warning would say something if my Adaptive Cruise Control isn’t on (or is and I’m just going too fast to slow down) neither of those things happened. No warning. No automatic brakes. No slowing down. I tried to engage the brakes manually but nothing happened. I slammed into a semi at around 60mph because of 3 different system failures. Not only did I hit the semi at 60~mph, apparently my brakes didn’t work at all and I spun out until I hit the concrete barrier on the highway. If my brakes had engaged automatically, I could have slowed down enough to avoid the collision altogether. And if they had engaged manually I could have at least minimized the damage to my vehicle (and myself) because I wouldn’t have hit the concrete barrier as well.

My 2018 Hyundai Tucson experienced repeated no-start conditions. The vehicle was initially diagnosed by Randy Wise Hyundai in Flint, Michigan, and I paid approximately $776 for tune-up services that did not resolve the issue. Shortly afterward, the vehicle continued to fail to start. The dealership later determined the starter had failed and provided an estimate of approximately $985 for replacement. Hyundai Motor America denied goodwill assistance and reimbursement for the prior misdiagnosed repair and stated the starter replacement is customer-pay. The vehicle’s inability to start caused loss of reliable transportation and safety concerns due to being stranded. I am submitting this complaint to document starter failure and potential diagnostic issues affecting vehicle safety.

- #11714033January 28, 2026UNKNOWN OR OTHER, WHEELS
The situation I’m about to explain has happened twice—once in December 2025 and again on January 22, 2026. In December, the roads were very icy, but there was no snow on the ground. As I made a right turn into a Walmart parking lot, I heard a loud metal-breaking sound while turning. I immediately got out and looked underneath my 2018 Hyundai Tucson SEL but didn’t see anything unusual. After finishing my shopping, I started the SUV to pull out of the parking space. The car was trying to move, but the rear tires were not moving at all. A man waiting for my parking spot noticed this and told me one of the tires wasn’t turning. As I drove home, I heard extremely loud metal noises coming from the back of the vehicle—sounds like metal twisting, breaking, and falling to the ground. At no point did any warning lights come on. I took the car to a highly rated mechanic, Premier Car Care, where they did a thorough inspection and found nothing wrong. After being reassured that the vehicle was safe, I continued driving it. Then on January 22, 2026, the same issue happened again. I was driving to my internship, and the roads were slushy. Suddenly, the Tucson became unstable, slid unexpectedly, and I heard the same metal twisting and breaking noises. This time, the ABS light came on briefly and then went off. The vehicle felt unsafe and unstable, even though I was driving very slowly—around 15 miles per hour. I was terrified and nearly hit someone. I had the car towed through Triple A back to the mechanic, but once again, they were unable to find the cause after inspecting it, and it is sitting in my driveway. I am reaching out because I am on disability, I have three children with autism, and I am also currently in school. I rely on this vehicle, and I truly need help investigating what is happening so this issue can be properly identified and fixed before someone gets seriously hurt.

All four cylinders misfired in my car while driving causing the catalytic converter and all four fuel injectors to need to be replaced. My car suddenly stopped driving in a rural area with only a few minutes of warning when the engine light came on. I was not even able to drive to a nearby shoulder. I was stranded on the side of the road in 5 degree weather until a tow truck could come.
