On two separate occasions, one at @9500 miles and the next at @19,000 miles the car engine started shaking and lost all power while driving. Unable to steer car. Both times towed to dealer and they say it needs new spark plugs and need to clean cylinders. They do not know root cause of problem and have not done any testing of the engine, no leak/compression testing. Dealer refuses to cover cost of repairs saying out of warranty but cannot give any assurances this won’t happen again. I’ve requested they contact Hyundai engineers to find out what’s causing this and, to date, they’ve done nothing. Vehicle is unsafe to drive and is still at dealership with no reason to underlying issue.

The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the contact noticed that the passenger’s side rear seat level had become elevated. The contact stated that his daughter who was seated in the child seat head had started touching the top of the sunroof. The contact became aware of a gasoline odor coming from the engine. The contact also became aware that the vehicle was consuming an abnormal amount of gasoline. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the diagnostic test result was undisclosed. The dealer was unsure of how to service the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000. The VIN was not included.

****Answers to questions above**** The dealership determined the fuel injector of cylinder 2 to be malfunctioning and replaced it. My safety was put at risk because my car lost all drive power and I could not get out of other people's way.(I was only going 40 but imagine if it happened at 80 mph on an interstate) The dealership reproduced the issue and fixed it. The dealership also stated that several models of Hyundai using the same fuel injectors had come in with the same failures.(10+ cars) Not all on the same cyclinder either. My vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership at this time. There were no warnings leading up to the failure. ****Full Story**** I was driving at about 40 mph through town and experienced total loss of drive power. The vehicle had electric, but little to no response from the gas pedal. I manged to limp the vehicle about 200 yards to a stop light. The rpms dropped to under 300 and the engine began to idle very rough. I shut the car off while at the red light to save it from any potential internal damage. When the light turned green, I almost could not get the car to start and stay running. There was a very strong gas smell at this point, which I had assumed was coming from the engine. I had to put the gas pedal to the floor to keep it running and ride the brakes through the intersection to not hit the vehicle in front of me. After getting through the intersection, I limped it into the parking lot on the other side. This is when I noticed the check engine light had come on. There was no leaking fluids under the hood or the car. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
As I’m driving 75 MPH, my car slows down and on the dash board it reads 20 MPH LIMIT. I’m on the Expressway and, prayerfully, by putting on my HAZARD BLINKERS, I pull over, wherever it’s safe, turn car off, restart the car and then it’s fine. PLEASE HELP BECAUSE THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION! SCARED 😨 😱 This has occurred SEVERAL TIMES.. Approximately 1 month ago I took it into SERVICE DEPARTMENT (kept 1 week and never slowed down on them. Again, once the car is turned off, it drives fine. How can I turn off this 20 mph hour limit on dashboard. Any advice or help you can give me to put me at ease, is CRITICAL! Thank You in Advance.

The car would not accelerate, nor switch gear while I'm driving middle of the highway. The car engine started to shake after my car wouldn't switch gear. The car engine would not start after turning the car off and caused a engine misfire. The transmission gear has a hard time switching gear from 0-40mph. This same incident occurred twice since purchasing the car in late November 2022.

Vehicle began to lose power while on highway. The loss of power occurred for a few seconds, then came back. Shortly after, the RPM began changing uncontrollably. Tried shifting to manual control using paddle shifters and was able to maintain steady RPM until vehicle software switched back to automatic and RPM swung crazy again. Endangered other vehicles on road due to loss of power and fluctuations of transmission. Once parked, vehicle did not change to neutral, drive, reverse. Both manufacturer and insurance are/have reviewed vehicle and are working on a fix. No warning lights. Only indication was minor loss of power prior to incident. Loss of power was not considerable nor for a prolonged period of time.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Infotainment center won't switch to Radio. No signal for AM/FM or Satellite. Then HVAC system stopped blowing. No defrost, won't blow heat or AC. Blower motors been tested and works, blower motor resister replaced. Everyone I talk to is saying it's an electrical, connection issue.

I have had three occasions where the dashboard lights would flash and the car would lose all power. The first occasion occurred on December 29th at around 12:20 pm at a crowded intersection. The dashboard lights lit up and all of a sudden the car had no power at all. I managed to get it through the intersection and pull it off to the side of the road. To start it up I have to TURN OFF THE CAR by putting it in park and start it up again. This is stressful and terrifying to think about if this had happened on the freeway. Additionally, I took the car to get serviced and was charged a $1,800 bill to fix it in January. This repair took two weeks to complete. The car has since turned off two additional times on February 15th going down a hill at 40 mph and March 26th on a mountain road going 60 mph. I am very concerned this will happen on the highway and I will get into a serious accident or worse. To make matters more difficult, I have taken the car back to the Hyundai dealer again to have it looked at in April and will most likely be without the car for at least another week. I bought the car brand new and the check engine light has gone off four times since then.

2023 Hyundai Sonata N-Line bought on [XXX]. Engine Control System failed 2 times w/in first 4 months. 1ST ENGINE INCIDENT ● [XXX] (Approximately 1:30 p.m.) ○ I was driving (1,949 miles on odometer) at an intersection when car lost power, lights on dashboard starting flashing & ignition shut off in the middle of intersection. ○ On dashboard notification stated “A possible condition with your engine control system has been detected with your 2023 Hyundai Sonata [XXX] ) on [XXX] at 1:25 p.m. A full system check is recommended to be done soon”. I also received notification via email. ○ Couldn't get appointment until [XXX] Cesar advised me they did diagnostic test & test drive & couldn’t find the problem. They made no repairs & made a notification in system of this problem. He stated that if it happens again to bring the car back. 2ND ENGINE INCIDENT ● [XXX] ○ My husband & I were driving (4,177 on odometer) & I was pulling out of a side street to make a left hand turn into a busy 4 lane street & as I drove ½ way across street my car lost all power, lights on my dashboard started flashing, ignition shut off & two cars were driving towards us about to T-bone us my driver's side. Cars braked suddenly to avoid hitting us. ○ On the dashboard of my car was a notification stating “A possible condition with your engine control system has been detected with your 2023 Hyundai Sonata [XXX] ) on [XXX] at 1:15 p.m. A full system check is recommended to be done soon”. I also received this notification via email. Dropped car off at Fontana Hyundai on [XXX]. Did diagnostic test & engine specialists inspection; couldn't find problem They said we will replace this part and hope it doesn't happen again. How do you put someone back in a car when you haven't diagnosed the problem; that's a serious safety issue, my life is endangered. Supposed to pick car up [XXX]. WAS PARKED IN BANK PARKING LOT. STARTED ENGINE, PLACED CAR IN REVERSE AND CAR ACCELERATED AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. (LIKE I WAS IN A DRAG RACE!!) APPLIED BRAKES, WHICH DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. DID NOT STOP UNTIL I RAN INTO A PARKED CAR. WHOLE INCIDENT TOOK JUST SECONDS. CAR HAD BEEN IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE AT THE DEALERS ON [XXX]. NOW HAS 16,597 MILES ON VEHICLE. CAR TO BE SERVICED AT RACHELS COLLISION, 720 S NOVA ROAD, DAYTONA BEACH, FL ON MONDAY [XXX]. IF I HAD NOT RAN INTO A PARKED CAR, I WOULD HAVE ENTERED [XXX] IN DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, FL WHICH WAS CROWDED WITH MOTORCYCLES.... FRIDAY NOON DURING BIKE WEEK. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
This is the 3rd time it happened to me. I was driving on the highway at speed 60-70 and a flash came across my dash that said emergency brake warning and my car started slowing down. I panicked and pulled over the road. The warning came on so fast and not even a min it stood on. It went off within 5 seconds. This is a safety hazard and can cause death when this happens. Please issue a recall for this to be fixed because this is dangerous to me and other drivers. I want my money back because this is the manufacturer defect or issue. They need to correct this before fatalities happen.

Had been traveling for approximately 2.5 hours in a winter storm, pushed on brake to slow down and park and the car started to chug. Turned car off and then back on again. Car would not start and had to be towed to nearest Hyundai dealership. There were no warning signs at all, car just suddenly quit. We were later informed that it was the fuel injectors. We were very fortunate that this did not occur in a place with no cell service on a very frigid, stormy night.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
Instrument cluster lighting is too bright even on lowest setting. Combined with poor side visibility from headlamps it is easy to hit object or pedestrians when turning on unlit areas. Have run over a curb three times and damaged two wheels because they can't be seen from the overly bright instrument lighting at night.

Driving going 30 mph, vehicle stopped accelerating. Error code was Engine Control System failure. Codes P2178, P0301 and P0087F0 were shown at dealership. Car was taken to dealership for repairs where the fuel injector on cylinder #1. 16 days after receiving car back, we went to start the car and it wouldn't start. After several attempts, gasoline began spewing from the car leaking an entire tank of gas on our garage floor and driveway. Very dangerous! Being towed to dealership again today.

POWER TRAIN
The vehicle is still under warranty but it has 25k miles and having transmission problems. Shifting from first to second gear I feel hard shifting , also when you prepare to stop it’s hard downshift again, downshift is more hard than up shifting.
