- #11486593September 27, 2022VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
It is called a "Smart Cruise" and it does not hold the speed. When driving on the interstate and the speed does not hold that would cause a risk of collision by other vehicles that are driving the appropriate speed. I took the car to my Hyundai dealer and a tech drove it. He said he got the same result of not holding the speed it was set at. I was told this is a problem with the Smart Cruise and that there was nothing that could be done at this time. There was nothing to say the cruise control was not working correctly

My 2021 Hyundai Kona EV battery need to be replaced. But the dealer would not have estimated time when my Kona EV get new battery. It could take 1 month or 3 months. No clues. I would not make a mistake to buy another car like Hyundai EV.

When I pull up to my driveway, which is on a 45-degree angle from the street for approximately 100 feet, and stop the car with the vehicle brake, take my foot off the brake and leave the transmission in drive, the car sits for approximately 15 seconds and then, without any input, the car will climb the hill. I was curious, so I turn the car around and backed into the driveway, and it did the same thing in reverse. I hate to think that a small child would be sitting in the driveway and the diver didn't see them. My question is would the car keep going and run over the child?

- #11485593September 21, 2022FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On 9/20/2022 I was driving on the expressway at approximately 60 mph when my car suddenly applied brakes and slowed considerably without reason and started flashing the emergency braking notification with alert noises. The notifications stopped after about 6 seconds and the car did not come to a complete stop, as I probably would not be here today, but it rattled me and now I have lost confidence in my car and feel this can cause a serious accident. The car has 1,322 miles and I have noticed one other incident at speed under 10 mph approaching traffic light.. I called my dealer to let them know. They made a note in my profile because they didn’t think they would be able to do anything. I searched Google and found others have discussed the exact same issue with the same model. This should be addressed! I will be turning this feature off.

While driving up a steep mountain road in heavy traffic and snow the transmission on my Hyundai Kona overheated and failed. The car began to buck back and forth and a transmission light came on. Unfortunately I was on a mountain interstate in heavy traffic with no real shoulder due to snow. I attempted to limp the car to the top but moved towards the right lane in case. The transmission did it's bucking thing 3 times total and then I noticed smoke coming from the powertrain area. At this point I pulled over and put my car basically into a snow bank so as not to get run over by semi trucks. I called AAA but was able to get the car up the hill after letting the transmission cool for around an hour. This entire situation was completely unsafe and had I been informed I would not have purchased the car because I know that I spend most of the winter in traffic on a mountain interstate. What's even more concerning, this issue is documented heavily online yet the sales reps for Hyundai are not aware. The service department is aware and told me that they couldn't do anything because it was working as it is designed. See here an additional forum which outlines the same issue for another driver. https://www.hyundaikonaforum.com/threads/dct-shifting-annoyances.2428/ Best, Greg

I have a 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric Vehicle with approximately 20,000 miles. On August 26, 2022 several warning lights came on indicating that the lithium battery was inoperable but fully charged in danger of catching fire. The dealer immediately towed my vehicle and disconnected the battery. The recall for battery replacement due to fire risk for the 2018-2020 now appears to be affecting the 2021 model year. The dealer is telling me they have no replacement batteries and cannot give me a timeline for replacing mine nor can they assure me that will resolve the problem. The recall needs to be extended to all model years.

- #11482917September 5, 2022LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Driving down the highway going about 65 mph, I get a quick warning that flashed on my screen about the blindspot collision warning, too quick to actually read. Then the car jolts like I hit a giant pot hole, which I haven't, and the gears on my car drop and I am unable to accelerate or change gear until I pull over and turn the car off. This issue has occurred over 5 times and has been reported to Hyundai every time, with no success in getting the issue fixed and it keep occurring. Happened again today friving home on the highway, and now my check engine light is on.

The 12V battery keeps draining on this 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric. This problem happened when I owned the car for 7 months, I believe the battery management system from Hyundai caused the ruin and drainage to the 12V battery. It has happened 10 or more time ever since the battery keeps draining and Hyundai refused to take any responsibility in their faulty 12V battery.

After driving the car for several hours, I arrived at my destination and as I was parking the vehicle, it would not move when put in reverse. I received a message on the dashboard that said, “transmission problem detected.” I had the car towed the nearest Hyundai dealer. They diagnosed the issue as a transmission failure. They ordered and replaced the transmission with a rebuilt unit under warranty. I picked up the vehicle approximately 3 weeks later when the repair was completed. I drove the vehicle for 1 week before a similar problem occurred. While driving the vehicle, I received a warning message on the dashboard and the vehicle stopped on the road. The symptom of this subsequent failure was that the vehicle could not go over 2-3 mph. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer approximately 10 days ago. It is currently sitting in the dealer's lot waiting for them to "get around to check it".

I was parking my Hyundai Kona electric car going very slow when without warning it took off going over 100 miles per hour. I couldn't control the vehicle. The brakes didn't stop the car. It ran over a wood parking beam, hit two light posts, and went over a concrete structure before finally stopping on its own. I was not hurt. Fortunately, no one else was hurt. I had my seat belt on. The air bags did not deploy. It was witnessed by another person. I had it towed to the Hyundai dealer in Webster. It is at Vision Collision. State Farm is paying for the repairs. When I got home after the incident I went online and discovered that acceleration problems with this car and year had been reported by others. This is a serious car defect that could result in the loss of life.

My driver's side door would not unlock, either electrically, or mechanically today. I was in the car and could not exit. I'm 70 years old and a big guy. crawling over the console in a Kona to get out of the passenger side was a struggle. Took it to the dealer who said, yea, this is common. Question is, why is this not a safety recall? Had I been in an accident, the first responders would have to waste time to break open the door. If you are taking someone to an emergency room, you can't get out when you get there. This issue just randomly happened. Note the technician said this is very common, happening to all the Hyundais. He said a latch mechanism was failing. Web search shows it is not limited to the driver door.

I was driving on the freeway at about speed limit. I was at a safe distance (3 car lengths away) from the car in front of me. The emergency brake activated. It did not stop the car, but I felt a pause in the drive. The message on my dashboard stated "emergency brake activated". A few minutes later, the emergency brake activated again. Again, it did not stop the car, but I felt another pause in the drive. The message "emergency brake activated" also came on the dashboard. I had a passenger in the car.

This 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric keep draining the battery after I charged my electric car overnight. It has happened 6 or 7 times now, which I think Hyundai needs a recall on this car. It killed the 12V battery after fully charged the car. Something has drained the battery completely. It is very annoying when this happened.

- #11472535July 6, 2022VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
There are multiple issues with the Adaptive Cruise Control: -When setting the cruise control speed, it can drop 10-15 mph until it kicks in. -When a car pulls in front of you with the Adaptive Cruise Control on, it takes to long to recognize it has to slow down and has to abruptly decrease speed when it finally does. -If the Adaptive Cruise Control does slow down because of a driver in front of you and that driver changes lanes, the Adaptive Cruise Control can again take 10-mph drop until it kicks in. https://www.konaissues.com/ https://www.hyundai-forums.com/threads/2022-kona-cruise-control-unusable.680949/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Hyundai/comments/q80vhz/cruise_control_in_2022_kona_limited_is_whack/ https://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/kona/2022/adaptive-cruise-control-problems.php
