I was driving on the highway and a message appeared that said “check electrical system”. The power in the car then completely bottomed out and I could not go above 25 mph.

The recall stated in this report says that it was incomplete, however the recall was completed by the Hyundai Dealership, the software updates were installed and the ICCU failed anyway. When the unit failed the car went into "Turtle Mode", only able to go a max of 25 mph, and the 12 volt battery drained and died.

Car has suddenly lost power three times while driving at low speeds or while stopped (eg at a stop light). I have turned off the power (EV start button) and then turned it back on, and the car restarts and starts moving again. The sudden loss of power seems dangerous-- I am concerned that if someone is following close behind me, they will be unable to brake and I will be rear-ended. Please note that I purchased this vehicle used and the problem started occurring the 2nd day I drove the car. (The car was bought back by a dealer in FL under the state lemon law and was subsequently purchased by a dealer in NJ, from whom I purchased the car.) I suspect the same problem was occurring when the vehicle was bought back by the Fl dealer, and it was not properly fixed.

12 volt battery dies after 2 years. Car is not starting and could stop working if it dies while being driven. The dealer replaced it But does not know why it died. I called the manufacturer but they were no help either.

A warning to check electrical system was displayed. The battery did not have sufficient charge to drive it to a dealer so I tried to charge and the car would not charge past 60%. I was able to drive the car to the dealer where they diagnosed a failed EV battery. Prior to the failure the car would use battery percentage much faster than it should have. For example, a fifteen mile drive would deplete the battery 25 miles. The dealer still has the car waiting to replace the battery.

I am writing to report serious issues with my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL, purchased on May 24, 2024, with approximately 3,000 miles driven. These problems have raised significant concerns about the vehicle's reliability and safety. The first incident occurred on July 22, 2024. I attempted to start the car in my driveway, and while the engine turned on, the vehicle suddenly lost power, and all electrical components became non-functional. There were no error messages, and the display showed all systems as normal. It seemed to function normally after turning the vehicle off and on again, but this unexpected power loss was alarming. The problems continued today, August 3, 2024. At around 8 AM, when I tried to start the car again, the system flickered twice and then shut off entirely. I contacted roadside assistance, and the car required a battery charge for about six hours before it could start again. This evening, while driving at approximately 15 miles per hour in my subdivision, the vehicle suddenly lost power after only a few minutes. This abrupt power loss posed a significant safety risk, and I was fortunate to avoid an accident. I contacted the dealer who sold me the vehicle, but they informed me that they could do nothing remotely and advised me to have the car towed to their location. It is extremely concerning and frustrating to encounter such severe issues with a new vehicle. Given the repeated and unpredictable nature of these problems, I urge Hyundai to take immediate action to investigate and resolve these issues. I am also concerned that other owners may be experiencing similar problems, indicating a potential widespread issue with this model. I am seeking urgent assistance to address these issues and ensure the safety and reliability of my vehicle. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

- #11606146August 2, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Backing vehicle out of driveway and went to engage brakes and they did not engage. began rolling backwards down street with steep grade. Kept stepping on brakes with no response. Had to turn into a parked vehicle to keep from rolling down steep grade and potentially off a substantial cliff. Happened today and dealership said that it may be because the "battery for the brake" had not received a charge from the main battery. Very dangerous and never disclosed. If I had not taken evasive action I could have easily been killed. Car is being dropped off at collision center today but is available for inspection. There were no warnings or other symptoms.

- #11605651July 31, 2024STEERING, WHEELS
Hyundai Ioniq5 acquired new in September 2023 - mileage at the time of incident 10,800 miles - Michelin Primacy AS 235/55 R19 - OEM tires installed by the manufacturer. Front tire started to go off balance causing steering wheel vibrations and shaking that increased with speed - car was not drivable above 55MPH due to excessive shaking and vibrations of steering wheel - this presents safety concern as it may lead to loss of control and excessive wear and tear on other suspension / wheel components. I took the vehicle to a local tire shop (Town Fair Tire in Norwalk CT - authorized dealer of Michelin tires) - got wheels rotated, balances and alignment adjusted. The issue persisted - on the second visit tire shop dismounted one of the tires and discovered internal foam band unglued and clumped on one side of the tire causing off-balance. The shop recommended removal of the foam material and rebalancing of the tire to correct the manufacturing error. I contacted Hyundai and reported this as a safety issue as well.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit failed. My vehicle would not accept a level one or level two charge. You would have to remove the rear seats to inspect. No one’s safety was put at risk. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. No warning lamps appeared at all.

- #11605163July 29, 2024VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Incident occurred when head-in parking in a space pointed into an stores exterior wall. There were no parking/wheel stops, just pavement then wall. No adjacent cars. I was decelerating with foot completely off accelerator and over the brake pedal. The car is an EV and was in 3rd level of regenerative braking, slowing down quickly. As I completed the turn into the space and began straitening the wheel, the car suddenly and rapidly accelerated and crashed into the wall. The only likely explanation I have is that I inadvertently pressed the Driving Assist button with my right thumb or hand while turning the steering wheel, which would have activated Smart Cruise Control, and, if the necessary conditions were met, set the minimum speed to 30 km/hr. The car manual states: "If your vehicle speed is between 0 - 20 mph (0 - 30 km/h) when you press the Driving Assist ( ) button, the Smart Cruise Control speed will be set to 20 mph (30km/h)." The Foward Collision-Avoidance Assist was set to Active Assist, which should have applied the brake to stop from colliding with the wall, but instead the car accelerated. (Note, the parking assist feature does not usually recognize head-in parking.) The car has two Driving Assist settings: Based on Drive Mode and Based on Driving Style. If the latter is selected, three additional features are set on sliding scales: Distance (close to far), Acceleration (slow to fast), Response Speed (slow to quick). These three settings are adjusted automatically based on the car's interpretation of the driver's driving style, or they can be manually overriden. I have never changed these settings. Post-incident I checked the setting and it was set to Based on Driving Style with Acceleration=Fast. Concerns: Is Driving Assist to easy to inadvertently activate? Should Driving Assist not activate at very slow speeds and not auto-set to 30k/h? Why did Forward Collision-Avoidance not activate? Drive Assist should not default to Based on Driving Style.

Charging port burned during DC fast charging session, resulting in melted charging pin. Unable to insert CCS connecter due to melted pin obstructing insertion. Further damage to electrical systems unknown. No warning signs shown aside from vehicle charging session ending. Lack of safety systems to prevent melting/burning of charging pins leaves potential for general vehicle fire, battery fire, etc. Dealer has had car in possession for over 10 days with no update. Corporate contact has been unresponsive.

I have had my 2023 Ioniq 5 for 13-months. I have had two safety recall services performed - I understand those were ICCU software related. On [XXX] my car sounded a sudden alarm and a warning appeared saying to "STOP and Check Power Supply." I was not able to immediately pull over but found the ability to pull over within about 1/4 mile, the vehicle seemed to be losing power. It was frightening as there were many pedestrians and cyclists and I had no idea what was happening. The car was towed through AAA - we had difficulty getting it onto the truck as there was very little power and almost no power steering. The vehicle is now at the Rowe Hyundai dealership in Westbrook, ME. I was told the ICCU would need to be replaced as well as some kind of fuse. I am not sure I will feel safe driving this vehicle even after it is repaired. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Auto lost all power. No instruments visible. Propulsion system would not charge. Thankfully vehicle at a stop when occurred. Unable to drive. Car as dead as a home in a power outage. Everything dark. Nothing electrical worked. Had to use emergency manual key to enter vehicle. Tow truck driver said this was the 4th Hyundai Ioniq 5 he towed that week. All dead. Car at dealer awaiting diagnostics, which because of backlog, could take 3 or 4 weeks.

My vehicle was 4 weeks old. On Friday 6/28/24, my vehicle displayed the following message on the dashboard, "Check Brake System". It disappeared later, and reappeared on the next day. I checked Hyundai's app, Bluelink. There was a alert on Bluelink, "Attention Needed". I opened the alert and it said that there was a Diagnostic Trouble Code, DTC C123501, that originated on 6/30/24. I took the vehicle to the dealership, Hyundai of North Miami, on the next business day, [XXX]. That morning, [XXX], as I started the vehicle, as I stepped on the brake to start the vehicle, the brake was considered "softer" than it was prior and I could feel the brake pedal go nearly all the way down to the base of the vehicle floor. On [XXX] they informed me that the ICCU needed to be replaced. They said that they hoped to have the ability to order the part on 7/5/24, as the computer system needed to do so was not working, and the part could potentially arrive in approximately 1 week. Failure of the Vehicle Power Supply system. ICCU failure. Car was alerting and would not go over 24mph. This is the result of a recall that I had already brought in the vehicle for in April, but they only performed a Pass/Fail test and at the time it "passed" so they didn't replace the ICCU and fuse that is required to be replaced. Two months later the car died, had to be towed and now has been at the dealership for two weeks already - 17waiting for the parts to come in. This is ridiculous because Hyundai is aware of this problem and is not fixing the issue, merely kicking the can down the road and then stranding owners for weeks without their vehicles. Unacceptable.
