Was charging the car at home in my garage when the charging session stopped. Opened the door and smelled electrical burning. Was able to put the car in neutral and push it out onto my driveway, fearing that an electrical fire could be disastrous. Called Hyundai roadside assistance and they had it towed to the closest dealership that can work on EV's (35 miles away). No report yet, but I'm pretty sure it's an ICCU failure.

I purchased my Hyundai Ioniq 5 on [XXX]. Since then, I have experienced repeated and dangerous failures of the air-conditioning system, which Hyundai and the selling dealership have failed to properly diagnose or repair. On [XXX], while driving, I heard a very loud banging noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. Immediately afterward, the air-conditioning system completely shut down and stopped producing cold air. Before the extreme Arizona heat began, I repeatedly asked Hyundai on Bell Road in Glendale to properly diagnose the A/C system due to ongoing concerns. Despite the vehicle being under warranty, the technician told me I would have to pay a diagnostic fee before they would evaluate the A/C. As a result, the underlying problem was not properly diagnosed or repaired. On [XXX], the exact same failure occurred again the same loud banging noise followed by a complete loss of air conditioning. The vehicle was taken to Hyundai on Bell Road in Glendale a total of four (4) times, spending 33 days out of service for the same issue. Despite this, the dealership failed to repair the vehicle. On several visits, the car was simply parked, and the dealer later claimed it had been “fixed” one time, even though the problem continued. This defect created a serious safety hazard. During one incident, while driving the vehicle in extreme heat to the dealership for repair, the interior temperature became dangerously high. My phone overheated and shut down, and I nearly passed out while driving. Hyundai Corporate has been unresponsive and dismissive. Rather than addressing the repeated failures and safety risks, I was referred to Lemon Law, where my claim was denied, despite the extensive repair history and time out of service. Instead of repairing the defect or taking responsibility, both the dealership and Hyundai Corporate pressured me to trade in the vehicle and move on, without resolving the underlying problem. INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On November 24, 2025, while driving at ~60 mph on NYS Route 17 (highway) with ~15% battery charge, my 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 suddenly entered limp mode and lost motive power. The high-voltage battery state of charge dropped instantly from ~10-15% to 0%, triggering error code P1B9600 (HV battery cell imbalance—cells failing to charge/discharge properly). I was unable to fully remove the vehicle from the roadway. My elderly mother was a passenger; a passing tractor-trailer came within 1 ft of striking us when disabled. NY State Police responded (report available). Required $300 tow to the Hyundai dealer, stranding us 150 miles from home.//PRIOR RELATED FAILURES: 1. November 14, 2025: Stranded due to ICCU failure (recall 24V-868 related) (stranded on NYS State Route 444). 2. September 15, 2025: Same P1B9600 code/limp mode/power loss; stranded in the middle of active travel lane of NYS 444; NY State Police report filed. 3. August 2025: Initial HV battery-related sudden power loss; stranded on Interstate 90 Eastbound (Erie, PA area). Despite repairs (September 2025 ICCU/"limp mode" software updates; October 2025 ICCU/high-voltage fuse replacement under recall 24V-868), defects persist. The vehicle charge rate also appears low and the battery consumption rate seems high.// CURRENT STATUS: Dealer (Vision Hyundai) confirmed high-voltage battery pack defective, requiring full replacement. Vehicle purchased new October 2024, under warranty. In service since mid-November 2025 (>30 days downtime). Provided loaner now, but prior rentals unreimbursed.//SAFETY RISK: Repeated sudden power losses create extreme highway crash risk, especially with vulnerable passengers. I am a licensed professional mechanical engineer, and can provide technical logs, repair orders, police reports upon request. The issues I have experienced appear to be linked to ongoing ICCU/HV system issues in IONIQ 5. I respectfully request expansion of the recall investigation.

The ICCU on my car failed after hearing a loud pop (fuse blown) while driving on the freeway. This was an incredibly dangerous scenario in which I went from 70 mph to 25 mph, in an area with no shoulder. Hyundai is aware of the issues with the ICCU and I believe they should expand the recall to include EVERY Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6. Interestingly, the technician at the dealership states in the summary of service that my car is subject to the recall due to the fault code (P1A9096). Why did I have to experience this failure to be subject to recall? My car should be subject to the recall/service based on VIN, but according to [XXX] it is not. Also at issue is the time it took to Hyundai's tech line to work with my dealership, and the time they are suggesting to provide replacement parts. My car was delivered via tow truck to the dealership at 11:16 AM on 12/11/2025 and I got the message regarding the diagnosis and solution to my car's issue on 12/19/2025 at 10:01 AM. It should not take 8 days to diagnose this issue, nor should it take 2 weeks for parts that are a known issue for Hyundai. - #11706248December 20, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
Due to a heavy brake application a water bottle in the back seat spilled and the water traveled under the drivers seat. This resulted in multiple car systems going offline, vehicle reporting LKAS error and inability to turn the car off. This essentially bricked the vehicle. Repair in order to correct the shorts and corrosion from the water both the drivers seat and main floor wiring harnesses require replacement cost estimate approximately $12,000. These key electrical connections under drivers seat are not adequately protected from simple water damage. This in my opinion makes the vehicle unfit for use as a family EV SUV as a simple water bottle still should not be able to brick a car. I consider this a design defect and the manufacturer is not covering this under warranty.

My vehicle has experienced three separate failures of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) and two separate 12-volt battery failures. All manufacturer recalls related to the ICCU have been completed. Each of these five events required towing and resulted in either an inability to start the vehicle, or a sudden loss of power while driving, including limp mode. During multiple events, the vehicle displayed a warning message stating “Stop vehicle and check power supply” accompanied by a red battery icon. The sudden loss of power created a serious safety risk to me and to others on the road, particularly when the vehicle lost propulsion unexpectedly. In each case, the vehicle became unsafe or impossible to operate. For every incident, the problem was diagnosed by authorized Hyundai dealer, and I was informed that the issue had been repaired. Despite these repairs and recall actions, the same failures continued to occur. These repeated ICCU and 12-volt battery failures demonstrate an ongoing electrical system defect that has not been permanently corrected and presents a continuing risk of sudden power loss.

My car worked to get to an appointment on 22 Nov. It flashed an error 2 minutes into a 20 minute return trip, saying the cars propulsion failure was imminent. Vehicle would not turn back on after the 3 mile drive home. The ICCU failed. If this failed while driving, or while I was in a hot/cold location, my life and those around me would have been at risk. The dealer has been working with Hyundai America for a month to fix the vehicle, and so far has not been able to after trying 2x replacement parts.

When I started driving my car a warning to check the electrical system came on the display and the speed of the car dropped to less than 25 mph. The road we were driving on was over 45mph without a safe shoulder. After it was towed to the dealer, they diagnosed that the ICCU had failed and replaced it and a fuse. This was after all recalls and other software updates were performed many months ago.

On Monday Dec 15 I was on the Coranado bridge in San Diego heading on the island. A warning flashed about the electric system. Then, towards the end of the bridge, the car immediately slowed down suddenly and I could feel the regenerative breaking. I had to time or opportunity to get over. By the grace of God, traffic started to slow as we got near the end of the bridge and the car was able to go roughly 20 MPH on the side roads with my foot all the way down on the accelerator pedal. With my hazard lights on, I was able to drive closer to where I was meeting my wife and find a parking lot to turn into so a tow truck could get me. It was terrifying. I’m alive by some miracle and I’m very lucky I was meeting my family and they weren’t with me.

While pulling out of the garage after charging our 2025 Ionic5 we heard a loud “pop”. As soon as we started driving we got a “Check Electrical System” message. We returned home and had our car towed to the Hyundai dealer. We were told that our ICCU failed and would need to be replaced. We are glad this did not happen while we were driving at speed. We are very concerned that Hyundai has a known issue with a critical component and has not resolved the issue.

The car stopped both Level 1 and 2 charging. But Level 3 charging worked. When it stopped in the middle of Level 2 charging, it tripped my circuit and bricked my Juicebix Level 2 charger. Hyundai replaced the ICCU.

My 2024 ioniq 5 has no recall but they have a well known issue where the ICCU does not charge the 12v as expected. this results in loss of power. In my situation, i was driving on the freeway at 65MPH when i got the low 12V battery message and my car slowed down and I was not able to accelerate at even street speed. I was fortunate enough to pull the car over from the left lane to the right shoulder as the traffic was light. This could have easily resulted in an accident. - #11705476December 16, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
When using cruise control the Driver Warning Alert sends visible and audible alerts (Keep your eyes on the road) even when I'm looking straight ahead, not wearing glasses, and not blocking the camera. I have tried multiple steering wheel angles and seat positions. At times I can drive for 30 minutes with no alarms but at other times it goes off every 30 seconds. This takes my attention away from my driving as I work on cancelling the alarm and puts me in a dangerous situation - exactly the opposite of its intended use. I have taken it to the dealer who claims there is nothing they can do about it even though two of their service reps told me they have the same problem. I have contacted Hyundai and they claim that the feature is acting as it was designed and refuse to fix it. On a long trip this can drive you crazy and forces me NOT to use cruise control which further takes my attention off of the road as I'm constantly monitoring my speed to avoid speeding.

On October 10, 2025, while driving the car, a turtle suddenly popped up in place of the speedometer. The car's power and speed was drastically reduced. There was a car behind me that started tailgating me and I could not go any faster than about 15 mph. I was able to make it home. Later that night, I tried to charge the car and it started to overheat. The ICCU recall need to be extended to 2025 models. Ours has been replaced, as well as the PCM and many other parts. Our car still sits at the Hyundai service center because they cannot figure out why the car won't charge.

The ICCU (Integrated Charge Control Unit) failed. Fortunately I was in a parking lot at the time, as the vehicle limited its top speed to around 25 mph. Had the failure occurred on a highway it could have caused a collision. While this is a 2025 model year Ioniq 5, the ICCU hardware (part 36400-1XAA0) remains unchanged across all Hyundai/Kia/Gensis vehicles sharing the eGMP platform. NHTSA previously issued recall 24V-868 intended to address such ICCU failures. While the modified software is included from the factory in the 2025 model year Ioniq 5, it appears that the 24V-868 recall is not a complete fix. Indeed, ICCU failure continues to be one of the most commonly reported owner issues, both for vehicles which have already had the “fix” from recall 24V-868 and for newer vehicles outside of the recall’s scope. This can be confirmed from the numerous posts and videos online (YouTube, Reddit, Ioniq forums, etc.). Given that ICCUs continue to fail at a significant rate, resulting in reduced vehicle speed and vehicle shutdown within minutes (as soon as the 12 V battery is exhausted), I strongly urge NHTSA to do the following: 1. Consider the current ICCU software update to be an ineffective remedy for recall 24V-868. 2. Broaden the scope of recall 24V-868 or create a new recall for all Hyundai/Kia/Genesis eGMP platform vehicles to address this defect. 3. Require that Hyundai/Kia/Genesis create and deploy a truly effective remedy for this defect.

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The contact stated that the message "Check Electric Vehicle System" and DTC: P0C7300 - System Motor Control Problem Detected had been displayed intermittently on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the DTC notification was persistently displayed on the Hyundai Blue link Mobile App. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated because the messages and the DTC were no longer displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that she would receive a call back within 2-3 days. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

On 12/13 while driving back home at a red light at night, we heard a loud pop at the driver's rear side and suddenly the dash displayed a warning stating "Check electric vehicle system". The car then would not drive past 25 mph and kept flashing the warning. We got it home safe, and planned on dropping it off at the dealership the next day after jumping it. The next day however, after multiple attempts to jump the car's battery, it would not start enough to move it. The car would start and then flash a warning saying that the 12V battery voltage is low and then shut off again. It had to be towed on 12/15 to the dealership where they will be doing an diagnosis.
