ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE
WHILE DRIVING, HEARD A LOUD POP THEN SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FLASHED THEN WENT OUT. A PASSER BY COMING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION STOPPED AND TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I GOT OUT AND THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE ON THE GROUNG UNDERNEITH MY CAR. THEN OPENED THE HOOD WHERE THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE BEHIND THE ENGINE. ANOTHER TRUCK PASSING BY HAD A FIRE ESTINGUISHER AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE ROAD. CALLED A WRECKER SERVICE TO COME AND PICK IT UP. UPON DELIVERY OF MY VEHICLE, THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE WRECKER. I'M VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HAD SOMEONE COME BY TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. I COULD OF BEEN IN THE CAR AND BEEN BURNED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN OUT AND DONE A FULL REPORT ON IT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHT THAT CAME ON DETECTING ANY ISSUES.

For the people that have the doors that will not lock or unlock there has been a resolution for that and I am surprised that it isn’t on this site. It’s called “ DOOR LATCH REPLACEMENT(WARRANTY EXTENSION TXXL” number 21-BD-006H you can go to any Hyundai dealership and they will replace it free of charge. I had to do my own research since nobody would help me, including this website to find out the information. This is very disappointing that there was no recall or any information to help anybody regarding this situation. Especially since it’s a huge safety issue. Not to mention when it rains my car leaks which could be the cause. I do not know, but I will never buy another Hyundai ever again. The lack of support from anybody is null and void and you are on your own to find the information. So nobody has to do the work I uploaded the file for you.

My car has randomly shut off 2 times in the last 48-72 hours. The first time in happened was a stop light, while idling the vehicle shutoff and restarted. The second time it happened was while actively driving the vehicle approximately 30 MPH. The vehicle has been taken to a local dealership and they are unable to figure out why this is happening. there is no check engine light or any other warning lights present both times this has happened. This is a huge risk for this to happen while the car is actually in motion.

ENGINE
1. Coolant hose leaked into the engine causing the engine to smoke and head gasket to be blown. Available for inspection upon request until I sell the vehicle since I need a vehicle for work. 2. The engine failure could have occurred on a roadway, and the coolant in the engine could have combusted further. When the engine is on, you can smell smoke. 3. The problem was confirmed by an auto shop and they recommended that the Hyundai dealership perform a repair. 4. The component has not been inspected by anyone other than two auto shops at this time, who both confirmed that either the head gasket could be replaced as an attempted fix, but that the issue could remain/become worse if the entire engine is not replaced. 5. Check engine light came on, checked codes at a shop within 10 minutes - only code present was an engine thermometer. Drove 20 minutes home. Drove to shop in AM. Shop described issue and recommended taking it to dealership for repair. Drove home and engine was riding rough, and began to smoke. I have done research online and communities online refer to this as "sudden engine death" and an issue that occurs often with this make and year of vehicle.

My 2017 Hyundai Elantra has problems with the ignition coil packs, sensors and engine. The car stalls at lights. It idles very rough and shakes when driving. Acts as if it will stall on the highway and extremely slow acceleration. Dealer told me there was metal parts in my oil, oil was thick sludge and that I never changed the oil. False and I have the oil change receipts to prove my oil changes. I have taken the car to the dealer numerous times for the stalling and no acceleration problems. Dealer can never get the codes or replicate the issues.

Without warning, car bump steers going over bumps on a curve of the road. Rear end of car will swing to the outside of curve, right or left depending on curve taken. This will cause a control problem, causing car to steer into oncoming traffic. Car will bump steer on a straight road depending on road condition.

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel occasionally failed to turn to the right or left and seized. While reversing, the steering wheel seized. After placing the vehicle in park and restarting, the vehicle worked as designed. The steering wheel warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where the system was reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

As I was driving, the steering wheel and brakes locked up so I couldn't steer nor brake. Luckily I was in a parking lot so I cruised the vehicle to a stop without crashing. If I had been on a road or turning, I would have crashed. No indicator lights went on. I took the car to a Hyundai dealership where they couldn't find any problems and recommended I replace the steering column. I searched online and several others have reported a similar issue. I was downhill turning right. My vehicle turned off. I started it and it turned off again. Happened again. Turned it back on and was able to continue to drive. Luckily for me there was no other vehicles on the road but could have caused an accident if car was behind me. I am planning on making appointment to take to dealer. No warning signs, engine light flashed on when car turned off but that's it.

Component or System that Failed or Malfunctioned: Engine or other I was driving my 2016 Hyundai Elantra in Kissimmee, FL, 34746 when the engine suddenly lost power and the car stalled out. The rpms dropped to 0, and the car could not be restarted. I was able to coast to the side of the road, but I was nearly hit by oncoming traffic. After several minutes on the side of the road, I was able to restart the vehicle to arrive safely home. The vehicle also shuts off at stop lights, drive-through, or idle. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The loss of power while driving could have caused a serious accident. If I had been in the middle of the road or if there had been more traffic, I could have been hit by another vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, I have not yet taken the car to a dealer or independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the vehicle or component has not been inspected by anyone other than myself. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The check engine light seems to come and go. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this safety problem. I am also requesting that Hyundai Motor America recall all 2016 Hyundai Elantras that may be affected by this problem. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

When I try to accelerate its like it isn't getting gas or there's something preventing it from going. Once it stops struggling it takes off all at once. When it struggles you can feel the vehicle hesitate. It has less Than 5000 miles on it. There shouldn't be a single problem with jt n⁵.

After turning off the vehicle, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that there was no compression in cylinder #3, and that there was scoring on the cylinder wall. The vehicle was not repaired. It started around a month ago it's a thumping clicking sound in my steering wheel it's getting worse everyday when driving on the road and I hit a bump in the road it wants to jerk out of my hands it's very hard to drive and keep from swerving around it sometimes feels like it's trying to stick or lock up I fear for my life and others life as well. I do know if it locks up it will cause me to lose control and wreck my car possibly ending in death for myself or others out on the highway. My horn doesn't work and I don't know if steering is the cause of that. I don't have any warning light that come on to check anything except the tire pressure light stays on and they are new tires. I keep a check on my car to keep it serviced and everything my tires aren't low at all I checked my oil on a daily basis and it read no oil on the stick so 2 quarts were added then I keep checking to see if I have an oil leak and there isn't one. I have spoken with multiple mechanics and have been told that unless they get into tearing it down and looking at it they couldn't give me an exact solution, but sounds like either an Intermediate steering shaft or a steering coupler bushing (MDPS) I have spoken with a dealership that stated there is no recalls but calling the recall number I have multiple ones. But haven't seen any on the steering. I have no documentation on manufacturer dealings or anything else .

Steering wheel sometimes makes grinding sounds when steering at low speed (25-35moh). On Sept 17, 2023 at approximately 5pm I was turning into my driveway going approximately 5mph when the electronic power steering light illuminated and I lost steering capability. When I turned off car then turned it back on light was off and steering power returned. After researching issue I discovered this is somewhat of a common problem.
