ENGINE
While the vehicle’s idle stop feature was engaged at a stop light, I took my foot off the brake to start moving again, but instead of starting again, the engine hard stopped and the van turned off completely. It told me to push the brake and start button to start it again but it took trying that several times and eventually holding the brake and start button down before it actually turned back on. Meanwhile, drivers stuck behind me were becoming increasingly irate and people were trying to get around me, despite heavy traffic. This is the second time it’s happened to me in this car. The first was about a month ago.

POWER TRAIN
With idle start/stop enabled, there have been multiple occasions where the system has not restarted, causing my wife to almost get into an accident with my two young daughters in the car. Honda has looked at it on two occasions and claims there is no issue. However when researching this online, it has let me to find a NHTSA investigation, as well as hundreds of complaints about this are found online.

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and attempting to place her [XXX] child in the rear passenger’s side seat, the contact touched the door handle, unlocking the door, and placed the bag with the key fob on the floor of the rear passenger’s side. The contact walked around to the driver's side door, and the door was locked. The contact returned to the rear passenger side of the vehicle and became aware that the door was locked. The contact attempted to enter the vehicle but was unsuccessful. The contact called the Fire Department, and the front passenger window was broken to enter the vehicle. A Police report was taken, but the information was not available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. My 2025 Honda Oddessy with only about 31,000 has stalled in the last 2-3 months about 5 times at stop signs/stop lights. It throws itself in park and doesn't recognize that I'm pushing any buttons. On the dash it only says "press the brake" which I am doing. I called Victory City Honda in Michigan City, IN [XXX]) and arranged a diagnostics check on XXX. They said it wasn't throwing codes and didn't replicate when they test drove the vehicle. If I turn off the auto start/stop it doesn't seem to happen but if I forget to push this button each and every drive - it stalls and won't start for up to 10 minutes. Once we were parking at home and it would not allow us to shut the vehicle off. Upon research I found NHTSA investigation ID#XXX with the exact problem I am experiencing. I called my Honda dealor to report and they stated they are not able to do any software updates without a Honda recall. I have another appointment with them on XXX to check the battery and possibly the brake pedal sensor. Please help. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When we are idling (at a red light), the engine will suddenly stop. We believe this is the feature of the start-stop system used to save gasoline. We will then have to completely restart the car as the car has been turned off. This creates a huge safety hazard at intersections. We have asked Honda about it twice now and currently replacing the starter. Our car is a little over 3 years ago with about 40k miles. The starter should not be failing at this point and we believe it is due to this start stop issue. The starter cost us $1400 in a car that is just over 3 years old with about 40k miles.

This is at lesat the second time that our Odessey has failed to restart at an interesction following the start-stop system turning off the engine the when stopped at a red light. After a couple of moments of trying to restart, it started again.

When I stopped at a stoplight at a busy intersection during rush hour traffic my auto shut off engaged like it was supposed to. When I released my foot off the brake for the car to restart so I could drive the car's dash started flashing and displaying instructions to engage the brake and put the car into drive, except I was in drive. It would not restart and no matter how many times I pressed the brake and the drive button nothing changed and it kept flashing the same message at me. I attempted to the the car off and when I tried to restart it, it flashed the battery light and would not restart. All electrical systems would turn on, but the car would not restart. It took a solid 5 minutes and turning the car off and on for it to finally restart. Then subsequent times at following lights before I turn the auto shut off off it would restart but struggled to. I have taken it to the dealership and called Honda Corporate and both tell me it is not throwing a code and therefore nothing is wrong with it.

2025 Honda Odyssey with approximately 22,000 miles. On multiple occasions while stopped at traffic lights or stop signs, the vehicle's Auto Idle Stop feature shut the engine off normally. When I attempted to accelerate, the engine failed to restart, leaving the vehicle disabled in the travel lane. The battery warning light illuminated, and on one earlier occurrence I believe a "Shift to Park" message may also have appeared. I was able to restart the vehicle by pressing the Start button, shifting back into Drive, and continuing normally. The most recent incident occurred while stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green and I pressed the accelerator, the vehicle did not restart or move. I had to manually restart the engine while stopped in the intersection before I could proceed. This created a safety concern because the vehicle unexpectedly became disabled in active traffic. The vehicle has never exhibited difficulty starting during normal operation, either when cold or warm. The problem has only occurred after the Auto Idle Stop system shut the engine off at a stop. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a Honda dealer, but an appointment will be scheduled.

2021 Odyssey EXL shuts off completely at a traffic stop light. Happened 2 times in a 2 week period. Without warning the engine switches off completely and puts itself in "P" mode, all light comes on as if in accessory mode, radio switches off, all doors unlocked. To get going, the driver had to press brake pedal and start the car again (via Engine Start /Stop button). This issue started in my car at 93K miles. Never had any issue with mine before that. But it is scary especially the engine switch off at stop lights and blocking traffic for a number of minutes before you know what happened and are able to restart the can. I have seen this issue reported a number of times on this site and it appears repetedly in web searches. Honda needs to identify the cause of this problem and issue a recall for it.

From a cold start my vehicle starts fine, but from a warm engine start the van would have trouble starting. Took it to Navarre Honda in Lake Charles, La and they found that the starter solenoid and 2 relays were bad and had to be replaced.

After AIS engaged, the engine wouldn’t come back on. This has been at intersections, etc where it was dangerous to have no engine. It is ridiculous that the feature has not been removed after problems going back to the 2018 model. All to game an emission standard. Shameful.

2025 Honda Odyssey. When the auto start/stop engaged, the engine failed to turn back on when the brake was released. It left my family stranded at a stoplight for multiple minutes before my wife could get it going again. After going rounds with the dealership and Honda not being able to 'recreate the problem', they finally put in a new starter and the van worked for the next year. Fast forward one year later and it did the same thing. Now the dealership cannot recreate it again, and I am concerned for the safety of my wife and kids. Brand new vehicle should not do this and Honda is not doing anything to rectify the situation. I have read there are over 2 million complaints on this issue on this website but don't understand how a recall has not been implemented.

Driving in city limits without any other vehicles nearby, the sunroof “exploded”. After immediately pulling over and inspecting the sun roof from outside the glass was buckled up, away from the interior of the car. The glass then all fell to the interior door.

The infotainment screen randomly shuts off and displays the errors "Network communication lost" and "MOST Net Off". This has happened numerous times while in the middle of backing up and using the backup camera that normally displays on that screen. We took it to the dealership for repairs of the problem in 2025 and after changing a wiring harness, the screen itself, and then the harness again, they thought they had fixed it but the issue continued to happen and has increased in frequency since then. Honda has a recall that includes our model (NHTSA Recall No. : 23V-431) but we were apparently not included in it and their press release on it estimates 50% of vehicles of the year and model are affected. It's unclear what arbitrary data was used to determine effected vehicles but it's obvious by the amount of discourse about it online that it affects more than their initial estimate. Many people, like us, have tried to have it repaired at a dealership to no avail.

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal and stopping at a traffic light, the gear shifter independently shifted to park(P). The vehicle was turned off and restarted, and the vehicle then operated as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The insurance company had not been contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 26,000.

I was stopped a stop light and the auto start/stop engaged. When I let go of the brakes when the light turned green, the engine did not restart and an ERROR message came on the dashboard. The Parking Brake light on the dashboard came on too.
