After driving for awhile, stopped in a store for a minute and came out and my van barely started. Made my next stop a minute down the road, and when I came out the car wouldnt turn over. Let it sit for a minute and still heard the start click once and nothing. Let it sit for 10 15 mins then tried to start it and it worked. Had battery and alternator tested at Auto Parts store and both ok. After reading some forums and researching, I see that it is an overdraw from the auto start feature. I also saw the model of starters on my year of van were only used one year, so it seems like its a problem Honda has known about. Im seeing a lot of these issues, and the guy at the auto parts store even knows about it, so it is something that needs a recall. Clearly these starters are a problem. My van just rolled over 36k miles because we drive a lot so its not under warranty still.

In approximately October 2025, while stopped at a traffic light, my 2025 Honda Odyssey's auto idle-stop system shut the engine off as designed. When I released the brake, the engine failed to restart. The vehicle remained disabled in active traffic for about one minute. After several attempts and shifting into Park, it finally restarted. There were no warning lamps or messages beforehand. This put me and others at risk because the vehicle was unexpectedly immobilized at an intersection and could have been struck from behind. An authorized Honda dealer diagnosed the starter as causing a slow/no-start condition and replaced it under warranty on October 9, 2025, at 21,211 miles (repair order #192362). The problem has recurred. I began noticing hesitant or slow restarts and normally disable auto idle-stop because I am afraid the vehicle may again fail to restart. On August 4, 2026, at 40,990 miles, the same Honda dealer diagnosed the starter as needing replacement again (repair order #203412). The battery passed its reserve-capacity test. The dealer documented a 0.600-volt ground-side drop, a 0.275-volt positive-side drop, and onboard voltage falling to approximately 7 volts during restart. Honda TechLine directed the dealer to replace the starter (TechLine case #5009355). The vehicle and current starter are available for inspection. The original starter was retained or disposed of by the dealer after the first repair. American Honda case #16533911 is open. No police or insurance representatives inspected the vehicle.

This is for 2025 Honda Odyssey. The component/system that appears to have failed or malfunctioned is the automatic engine stop-start system and/or related vehicle power/drive-control system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. When stopped at a traffic light or in traffic, the automatic stop-start feature does not restart or re-engage properly, and on several occasions the vehicle became completely disabled and would not move when the accelerator pedal was pressed. During these events, there was flickering/interruption of power, and I had to turn on the hazard lights, shift to Park, turn off the air conditioning, and attempt to power or restart the vehicle before it would move again. My safety and the safety of my passengers were put at risk because the vehicle was unexpectedly immobilized in active traffic. In one incident, the vehicle behind us almost struck my Odyssey because traffic had begun moving after the light turned green, but my vehicle remained stopped. This has also occurred while stopped on the freeway, including in a construction zone, creating a risk of rear-end collision and leaving my family, including children, vulnerable in traffic while other drivers were honking and attempting to move around us. The problem has occurred at least three times, but it has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The vehicle/component has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. Prior to or during the failure, the main symptoms were the stop-start system not restarting the vehicle correctly, flickering power, and the vehicle failing to move despite pressing the gas pedal. The symptoms first appeared during stopped-traffic situations, such as at red lights or during traffic stops on the freeway.

- #11754545August 3, 2026ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving from a complete stop, the Auto START/STOP system failed to restart the vehicle while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was manually restarted. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the battery was fully charged and tested, and the contact was informed that the battery was in good working condition; however, the contact requested that the battery be replaced. The contact expressed concerns that the battery replacement might fail to resolve the issue. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

2026 Honda Odyssey: Strong Exhaust/Fuel Odor in Cabin Causing Dizziness and Nausea I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety issue involving a vehicle that is less than one year old. Beginning this past weekend, the vehicle suddenly began filling the passenger cabin with a strong exhaust-like odor during normal operation. The odor is severe enough that multiple occupants have experienced symptoms such as dizziness and nausea after spending approximately 10 minutes inside the vehicle. I visited my local Honda dealership to report the issue and seek assistance. According to the representatives I spoke with, Honda believes this is a known and widespread issue affecting multiple makes and models and that it is allegedly related to recent changes in gasoline formulation. I was further informed that Honda is aware of the issue, that engineering teams are working on a solution, and that there is currently no corrective action available to consumers. Honda also stated that, despite the odor, the condition does not involve toxic fumes and is only an odor concern. I am not ready to accept that explanation without further investigation. At this time: The condition began suddenly and without warning. The odor is strong and persistent. Occupants have experienced dizziness and nausea while riding in the vehicle. Honda has not identified a repair or mitigation. Honda has indicated that this may be a broader issue rather than an isolated vehicle defect. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether similar complaints have been reported and whether this condition warrants further investigation as a potential safety defect. I have also requested that Honda provide written documentation supporting its statements regarding: The alleged fuel-formulation cause of the issue. The assertion that occupants are not being exposed to harmful fumes. Any technical bulletins, engineering analyses, or communications related to this condition.

When the vehicle comes to an idle stop and brake is released, the vehicle shuts off and does not kick back on. Only solution in the moment to get the engine to restart is trying to start the car repeatedly until it comes back on. Vehicle has been looked at for this issue but they were unable to replicate the issue. Engine light will sometimes come on when this occurs. Other times the charging system light comes on, as well having multiple warning lights coming on at once. Causes a safety issue when it’s not restarting while in traffic. Issues started a few months after purchase. Took it into the dealer and they determined the throttle body needed to be replaced.

- #11754469August 3, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, POWER TRAIN
Incident Description: The vehicle entered an Auto Idle Stop event at a traffic light and stalled completely instead of restarting when the brake pedal was released. The red battery warning light illuminated, and the vehicle had to be shifted into Park and the ignition key cycled multiple times to eventually achieve a slow, sluggish crank and engine restart in active traffic. Another vehicle was almost going to hit me from behind since red light turned to green when this happened, and that driver from far behind was thinking that my vehicle will start moving and did not slow down. That driver started honking and yelling. It was scary since I had 3 small kids in my vehicle. Dealership Diagnostics: I dropped off the vehicle at a local Honda Dealership to get this checked. From the invoice/service document, I see this note: Cause: Took several attempts but was able to duplicate concern of when vehicle goes into auto start stop it will not always restart, will have to cycle key. Noticed when it did restart it is slow to crank. Battery tested good, and had good reserve voltage. Used tech line as a resource and found this issue is caused by starter not having enough voltage to properly engage auto stop start. rec replacing starter. Correction: Replaced starter.

- #11754461August 3, 2026SERVICE BRAKES
The brakes on the 2025 Honda Odyssey has a defect. The safety issue is with the brakes making a loud high pitched squealing noise can be a warning something is not safe or working correctly. Yes the problem has been reproduced and recorded on video for the dealership. They said it is from wear and tear but the brakes have more than 7mm left of life. The dealership says it’s normal for the brakes to squeal. It’s became a safety issue because I can not decipher if or when my brakes are or will become unsafe. The Honda mechanic even mentioned that my new cars brakes should not be making that noise. The brakes have been squealing since before 10,000 miles and squeal when I’m going lower speeds.

The Auto idle stop feature fails to restart the car during a stop. This happens intermittently but requires one to fully put the car in park and restart the car. This issue has caused concerns as I was at a stop light with a long line and did not know how to recover until I tried to full shutdown, set the car to park, and restart.

- #11754409August 3, 2026FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Gasoline fuel vapors enter the passenger cabin of my 2026 Honda Odyssey while driving. The problem began XXX, the day after a dealer oil change, and has recurred repeatedly, growing stronger each time. It is worst in high ambient heat (100 to 116 F), with the fuel tank above half full, and after extended idling or stop-and-go driving on a heat-soaked engine. It initially occurred only after idling but now also fills the cabin at cruising speed. No warning lights or messages precede it. On XXX in about 116 F heat, the cabin filled with gasoline vapor with my two children (ages [XXX] and [XXX]) aboard. Onset was immediate: nausea, lightheadedness, and sore throat. I had to shut off the A/C and open the windows in extreme heat to reduce exposure, and the children had to be taken home in a different vehicle. Poison control was contacted the same day, opened case files for all three of us, and assessed the symptoms as consistent with short-term gasoline vapor exposure. A pediatric follow-up is scheduled. The dealer has confirmed the problem. Repair Order XXX (Tempe Honda, XXX 14,032 miles) states the advisor and tech did confirm smell coming from vehicle, and that the issue is currently under investigation by AHM, with no work done. An earlier dealer inspection onXXX found nothing. American Honda has an open corporate case, and no repair path has been provided to date. In-cabin TVOC air readings of about 2.0 mg/m3, peaking at 6.0 mg/m3, were captured on video. The vehicle is available for inspection, and repair orders, videos, and manufacturer correspondence are available on request. The vehicle is no longer driven with children aboard. My brand new vehicle continues to leave me stranded at stop lights because of the auto start stop system. Even though I have already taken it up to the dealership before and had it repaired. (There is a class action started over this)

While driving my 2025 Honda Odyssey, the Auto Idle Stop system shut off the engine at a stop as designed, but the engine failed to restart when I released the brake pedal. This left the vehicle stalled at an intersection. No warning lights appeared. This has occurred 6 times. Dealer was contacted; service is scheduled

I have experienced numerous instances where my car will stall at a stop light and then fail to restart, even with switching gears to park before resuming to drive.. I have had to turn on and off the engine multiple times at a si hole stoplight before the car would resume movement. This scenario has now happened at least 3 times. I am a mom driving a minivan of kids and this is concerning for our safety. These are not long stop lights. Sometimes even at a stop light I feel a strange pulling sensation.

2024 odyssey engine shut off while in drive thru at restaurant. Unshure if auto start stop override was active. Either way the van had to be re started using the start button. Van re started on second or third attempt to re start with start button. This is a repeat occurance since having starter replaced in response to a similar problem about a year ago.

Car purchased July 4, 2024. Idle stop/start was working but after several months, it became defective. After driving for some time, idle stop/start wouldn't work properly and cut the engine off when idling. I would have to turn the car, open my door, and try to restart the car. It also occurs after parking, turning off the car and less than 10-15min attempt to restart. Most of the time, it'll start after 1 or 2 attempts. Except today 07/31/2026, I got home and parked. After 20min, I tried to start my car and after 10-15 attempts, it wouldn't start. After waiting 2 hours, the car finally started.

The van is experiencing the auto stop-start defect causing major safety issues for my family. The car stalls randomly at stop signs and stoplights and is unable to be restarted quickly, creating a major traffic and safety hazard. The car often will not turn on at start up. The dealer stated that it needed a new starter. Then said that Honda would not replace the starter until a tech looked at it. Then after several weeks still had not moved forward getting a tech. Then said to bring the van in for them to keep until they could get a tech, and offered a small car without room for the kids as a loaner for the indefinite amount of time they want to keep the van. There were no warning lights when it has happened. This issue is already being investigate by the NHTSA - Investigation Number EA25004. This is a known issue for Honda and I am unable to get a safe vehicle or get my vehicle fixed. Below, i have to choose a date for the incident, but this is ongoing and has happened on more dates that I can possibly log. It happens weekly, if not daily.
