This complaint alleges issues with this vehicle as follows: 1. Honda has a defective design in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) of all Honda Odysseys, models 2018-2024. 2. Namely, Honda has placed the RADAR behind the large HONDA emblem on the front grille. This causes the radar to give a "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning, which disables all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the car (Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning). 3. The "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning cannot be reset by restarting the vehicle or disconnecting the battery, requiring recalibration of the RADAR at the cost of $800 each time since it takes several hours to do (per Dealership). 4. The official Honda Odyssey Forum online has countless complaints on the same issue without resolution by Honda. 5. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers since this defect impacts the vehicle's advanced safety features for which buyers incur additional expenses, endangering the lives of passengers. 6. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers by designing a system that requires continuous and substantial expenditures without resolution because it is an engineering problem, i.e., the placement of the radar behind the large, thick plastic H emblem obstructs the radar. 7. I hereby ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue and order Honda to offer a solution in the form of a RECALL that permanently addresses the problem. Thank you for your time and reviewing this systemic issue.

I was driving in light snowfall when several alerts notifying me that the radar sensor was not working. This is common in snow fall. Later I cleared off the radar unit cover (The Honda logo on the front of the car). The alerts remained. I took it to the dealer and they dubiously told me it was "damaged by snow". This is impossible. It was light snow. There was no collision or impact. This device should be durable. It has no moving parts. But Honda wants me to believe that it simply stopped working from driving in a light snow. They want $1300 to replace. How do I know the next one won't conk out after the first snowfall? These units should have a lifetime warranty with only exceptions for collisions or impact damage. If the unit is damaged by snowfall, it's clearly too fragile and should not be on the market. It's a HUGE safety concern that the vehicle's advertised safety systems can be toppled like a house of cards from one light snowfall.

The automatic braking system activates randomly when merging onto a highway if you do not have your signal activated, and cross a lane line, at the moment you merge onto the highway. I understand that it is the law that you must signal a lane change, however failure to do so should not result in the vehicle slamming on the brakes, especially when you are attempting to increase speed merging onto a highway. When this happens, it is incredibly dangerous. On [XXX] at [XXX] p.m. I was merging onto [XXX] from [XXX] in Illinois. As I was merging onto [XXX], the emergency braking system slammed on the brakes, and alerted me of a possible collision. The car behind me almost ready ended me. The roadway was free and clear. This occurred as I was passing through the lane markings from the on ramp to the expressway. I do not remember if I had my signal on. I do not have exact dates when each of these incidents have occurred, but is happened at least 5-6 times in the year that we have owned the car. There is an ongoing investigation by NHTSA for Honda's emergency braking system, which according to this article has been expanded to 2023 model years including Odyssey [XXX]). I think the investigation should be expanded to include 2024 model years as well. If any other information is needed please let me know. Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety concern with my 2023 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ). On [XXX], while driving at 45mph, the front and left side airbags deployed suddenly without any impact or collision. There were no other vehicles involved, and no visible damage to the car was apparent. The only indication was the "SRS Airbag Deployed" sign on the dashboard. Upon inspection by Honda of Leander, minor damage was found at the bottom of the vehicle. However, the insurance inspector (Brian, +1-832-418-4052) confirmed that this minor damage should not have caused the airbags to deploy. The airbags deployed without any impact, and only the side airbags were triggered, suggesting a malfunction similar to the recent recall affecting 2020-2022 Honda models [XXX] ). Honda has issued a recall for over 750,000 vehicles due to a defect in the front passenger seat weight sensor. This malfunction could cause the airbag to deploy unintentionally, even when there is no crash, posing a significant safety risk. The recall affects various models, including the Accord, Civic, CR-V, Pilot, and Odyssey from 2020-2022, as well as several Acura models. Given the potential safety risk this malfunction poses, I urge the NHTSA to investigate this specific incident and consider extending the recall to include 2023 Honda Odyssey models. While my family and I were fortunate to be unharmed, this issue presents a serious threat to others and has resulted in the vehicle being totaled, causing us significant financial loss. I respectfully request appropriate action be taken. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need any further information, including photos and videos. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] , [XXX] Vehicle Information: 2023 Honda Odyssey, VIN: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The infotainment screen goes in and out. The screen makes crackling sounds and just goes blank. Causing problems with gps, sound, back up camera, emergency help feature etc. nothing functions. Extremely dangerous. When you rely on your GPS and the entire system malfunctions it is so dangerous. Honda had recalls on previous models for the same feature. They need to extend the year to 2023 models as well for faulty wiring. They are trying to charge thousands to replace a system that they have admitted has these issues at no fault of the consumer.

On 28-Dec-2024 I noticed the power tailgate stopped working on my 2021 Honda Odyssey. I tried to press the power tailgate button on the key fob, the button on the driver's side control panel, and the button on the tailgate itself, but none of them works. I did some research online and found out it's a common problem in 2018 to 2021 models and the cause was the failed Power Tailgate Control Unit due to water leakage through the cracks on the vehicle body. I opened mine and found there was water in the control unit box which might have caused short on the circuit board. I bought a new control unit a week later and it fixed the issue.

The Anti-Theft System on the car randomly looses power. This causes the car's power to cut out when you are slowing down and apply the brakes to stop. Once the power cuts, you have to wait about 30 seconds before the ignition Start button illuminates again to restart the car. Once you restart the car the screen on the center dash (stereo/navigation screen) states the Anti-Theft System lost power and you must push the power button in on the stereo for a few seconds to reset it. When it occurs while at a stop sign, traffic signal or during stop and go traffic, other drivers have to wait for you to reset the car so you can proceed and get out of the way. When it occurs during parking, you get out of the car and when you attempt to lock the car it will not since the system lost power. You have to get back in the car, restart it, reset the Anti-Theft system, stop the car and then get out to lock it. With this issue, the system loosing power while in the flow of traffic is a safety hazard. This issue did not start to occur until after my Honda was serviced and had its system updated for the Auto Start safety recall.

Third row drivers-side power outlet caught on fire while dropping kids off at school. Kids started saying they smelled smoke while driving. Six year old child was sitting in seat right next to the power outlet shouted the van was on fire, everyone exited vehicle Fire extinguisher from school was used to put the fire out. Fire department came, stated the fire seemed electrical in nature; do not have fire department report yet. Plastic and surrounding area are melted from the fire. Vehicle is currently sitting at mechanics lot waiting to hear back from Honda; insurance told us to wait to hear back from Honda before they would do anything. Called the Honda Customer Care on the date of the incident and have still not heard back from them; have called multiple times and they say we are in a queue and there’s nothing they can do until our case reaches the top of the queue. No lights came on leading up to the fire. Incident seems very similar to Safety Recall Report 20V-066.

- #11631351December 18, 2024SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Vehicle start up diagnostics show multiple failures, including ABS, e-steering, emergency braking, adaptive speed control. Dealership found a problem with the right rear ABS sensor. The sensor wire harness was severed. The harness showed damage in multiple places (see photos). Besides being severed, it showed another deep cut and a place where the outer plastic sheath was cut away. The loss of ABS sensor made the vehicle exhibit poor handling including braking. The vehicle has only 4000 miles and is in pristine condition with no damage.

At speed less than 25 mph, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) did not work. At cross roads this CMBS will not work when a vehicle comes from the side. This will work only if it detects the vehicle's presence in front for more than 3-5 seconds. Will not activate during sudden presence of vehicle at any speed.

Immediately after picking up my vehicle following the replacement of the front bumper, I noticed the keyless entry system started to malfunction. When I touched the driver’s door handle, it didn’t respond as it should. Instead, I had to use the rear left passenger door handle to unlock the driver’s door. Additionally, the vehicle used to emit a warning buzz if any doors were not properly closed. However, after the repair, this warning sound no longer functions. When the doors are properly closed, the vehicle typically beeps twice in quick succession, but these beeps are sometimes too faint to hear due to background noise. Three days ago, I returned home after dark and unknowingly left my vehicle unlocked in the driveway because I didn’t hear the usual warning sound. That night, a burglar entered the vehicle, ransacked it in search of cash or valuables, and stole my $100 jumpstarter/tire inflator. Alarmingly, my garage door opener was on the sun visor, which could have led to a much worse situation. This malfunction has caused serious concerns, as the lack of clear audible warnings creates opportunities for oversights and security risks. Besides, I talked to the dealership more than three different occasions but I got no help. On one occassion, service technician said to leave my vehicle longer than a day but I was in no situation to accept that offer.
