- #11675632July 23, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On two (2) occasions, the "collision mitigation braking system" braked with no reason. It has happened on a quiet and straight line residential street with no other moving vehicle, pedestrian, animal, or any other obstruction in view. After one second or so of braking, it returned to normal. It is available for inspection. I have not spoken to the local Honda dealer about it, and there were no adverser repercussions. There were no prior warnings of any system malfunction.

Radio/infotainment touchscreen often freezes up and has phantom inputs, which can exit navigation and change the audio source. This causes huge distraction to the driver. The frustrating thing about this is that it's an intermittent issue, so the service center can't replicate it when I bring it in. This has been an ongoing issue with many 3rd generation Insights, and I was told by the service center that Honda has an internal investigation going. I have brought my vehicle in to multiple service centers and none have been able to replicate or fix the issue.

I have a 2019 Honda Insight that has had two previous air conditioner failures that were covered under an extended warranty that Honda issued for the compressor and condenser based on known problems with the system. The air conditioner, as of 6/2025, has again failed for the third time. The local dealer Victory Honda of Morgan Hill diagnosed a leaking evaporator which Honda is refusing to cover as the car is out of factory warranty. Upon researching the matter online I learned it is a widespread issue and even resulted in an unsuccessful class action lawsuit. The air conditioner failures are a safety issue because the defroster does not function effectively without it. This can result in fogged windows causing impaired visibility while driving. I believe that the evaporator repair should be included in the 10 year air conditioner condenser and compressor warranty that Honda previously issued. The air conditioner is a closed system and whatever the root issues causing failures are, they don’t appear to be limited to just the two components covered under the extended warranty that Honda issued.

I was driving home from vacation when my engine splash plate came loose from my car on the interstate. The splash plate fell down and dragged on highway creating friction under my car. The metal had fallen down and was chipping away creating dangerous debris to my car and other cars on the highway. Roadside service was no help, per usual. I was traveling alone. The splash plate had to be removed entirely to prevent a fire and more damage to my car. I couldn’t remove the splash plate on the side of the interstate. I drove 30-40 mph to get help to prevent further damage or loss of property and my life.

The 2022 Honda Insight has an issue with "phantom touches" on the infotainment system. The system will frequently select buttons and change your screen, when no one is touching the panel. It will also freeze up, where you have no control over it. Why is this a safety hazard? Because when you're driving down the road and it takes your map away, you are constantly fighting the system trying to get your directions back, and in the process, your attention is taken off the road. When it flips radio stations on you randomly, and you keep having to try to flip it back. When it randomly pulls up your phone contact list, you have to immediately hit the home button so it doesn't dial someone. This nonsense happens A LOT, and has been ongoing since I bought the car a few years ago, especially when it's warmer outside. The last time I was at my Honda dealer I asked them to look at it. They didn't know what was causing it, but said the firmware needed to be updated, so they did that and nothing changed. To get a full understanding of what it's like, I posted a few videos. Just watch the first 30 seconds of the first video and you will immediately understand what it's like driving with this (as I am driving in this video) and seeing the buttons randomly pressed by "phantom touches." In the second video you can see what happens when the screen changes but is frozen (no matter what I try it doesn't respond)... [XXX] .... [XXX] .... [XXX] .... Here is also one of several Reddit threads regarding the issue: [XXX] ... Like me, others haven't been given any straight answer from Honda. This needs to be recalled. It's a major distraction while driving! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Consistent failure of A/C Evaporator and Condensor, which causes failure of entire A/C system and requires expensive replacement parts/repairs. Recall issued on Condensor but not on Evaporator, which makes no sense. Both are needed for A/C to run. The leaks from condensor and evaporator impact function of the engine by making it skip on acceleration. It also impacts the filter systems. Dangerous for health and safety.

Car often slams on the breaks when there’s no one near me. It also has the blind spot detection go off when there’s no one next to me (or a highway barrier) Both of these instances have happened numerous times since I’ve had my car. It’s only been 3 years and 25k miles. The problem started as soon as 2-3 months in

- #11652413April 2, 2025AIR BAGS
While I was going 5-10mph over a railroad crossing, the steering wheel airbag deployed as my front tires went over the grade crossing. The airbag also went left instead of straight. My hand is bruised and it sounded like a gunshot went off in my vehicle. After the deployment, the vehicle was still driveable. I drove it to a Honda dealership and they were very concerned and called corporate.

Driving normally about to enter a clear intersections when the brakes automatically fully engaged bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. There was nothing in front of me, and no cars about to cross in front of me. Lucky there was no accident and I was able to continue on. There have been no issues, inspections, or changes leading up to this incident.

I was driving down the highway, with no one in front of me, and my car alerted BRAKE and brought my car from 70 to an almost complete stop. This jerked myself and my passenger and caused a heat mark from the seat belt on my collar bone. It has done it multiple times since then. I'm terrified to be in traffic and for it to do this. This is most definitely putting my safety at risk, and the safety of others. I have not taken it to the dealership yet.

The car was serviced due to a recall about fuel pump defect and after the service, the car was halted in the middle of the trip. This incident is not acceptable and especially the recall service was supposed to fix that problem. The sudden stop of malfunctioning fuel pump could cause collision, injury and possible lives!

Was taken into the dealership on 1/27 for an oil change and a general check-up. This morning 1/29 before starting up the vehicle noticed that the windshield had cracked windshield that looked like it was due to a bubble being created between the panes of glass which caused it to crack and shatter. This is not only a safety concern but an issue as well. Thankfully I was not driving the vehicle at the time that this happened.

- #11637809January 22, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
According to the driver of the vehicle at the time, for no reason while on a Freeway approaching a construction area at 60 miles per hour with cruse control OFF, the vehicle brakes were applied by (I suspect) the Emergency Braking System (EBS)of the car. The Car, due to the breaking, slowed down to 50 miles per hour and then released the brakes. No one was behind the car at the time. A warning did also appear on the instrument panel at the time of the event. Problem has not been reported to Honda (or anyone else) or reproduced. There were no warnings of any issue prior to the event. This event occurred around the first of January 2025.

I just read about a NHTSA probe or study that's been upgraded for unexplained braking on Honda Insights. This unexplained sharp automated braking has happened at least half a dozen times in my car. There was never anything in or near the vehicle path that would explain the braking. It was always good weather (no hazard road conditions). In every instance it was a brief but sharp braking (with a loud audible beep beep beep). Three times it occurred within the same 1/4 mile stretch of road, which was a slight decline followed by a slight incline (at the time I was thinking that somehow the optical camera system was picking up some reflected or refracted light from the road or highway markings). But that seems unlikely, and in any case, Louisiana roads, being as horrible as they are, there's no fresh marking paint or other reflective coatings anywhere on the road. I also wondered if maybe it was caused by interference from other radar or radio signals.

- #11637156January 20, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I experienced an inadvertent emergency braking action in my 2019 Insight while cruising at highway speed. I was in the right lane, which had just doubled in width due to an on-ramp joining the highway. This situation will sometimes confuse my car's Lane Keeping Assist System, causing a side-to-side shudder or swerve, but in this case the Automatic Emergency Braking activated, causing me to lose about 10-15 mph in speed. There were no other cars around, and I never lost control of the vehicle. Most of the time, an AEB activation like what I experienced is completely harmless. There are no other cars around, and the road surface is good enough to prevent a loss of control. If another car is close behind or the road surface is extremely poor (ice, substantial water, etc.), this experience could possibly result in a rear-end collision or a spin-out. Because my AEB incident was harmless, I never reported it to the police, insurance, dealership, or manufacturer. I'm unaware of any warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before or after that could be related to the incident. As you can see, my report is anecdotal and I didn't save any precise documentation (e.g. dashcam footage) from when the incident occurred. My main goals in reporting are to corroborate the potential issue in investigation EA25002 and add my car's VIN as another data point.

- #11631368December 18, 2024ENGINE
The car has only 83000 miles. We bought the vehicle 2 months ago from the estate of an individual that passed away. We were driving the vehicle and the gas pedal stopped working. Prior to this happening, we noticed no oil leak from the car. Per the manual we were checking oil level everytime we filled car up and would top it as it would be lower. We were driving the car on the highway and when we pressed on the gas pedal it stopped working, the car was not moving. Several lights came on the car, check engine etc. We took it to the dealership for a check and was told that the car needed a new engine at the tune of $17000. Honda Company stated that the car had no warranty on the engine and they would take no responsibility for failure. Was told engine block and piston 1 to 4 had misfire. No prior warning was given to us. The spark plugs for those pistons had melted the head.

I was stopped at a stoplight and then the light turned green. I began to accelerate and immediately and simultaneously my car began flashing BRAKE, beeping, and slamming on the brakes. I came to a literal grinding halt. There was no car in front of me nor was one merging into my lane. It was completely unwarranted and quite honestly frightening. There was a car behind me but thankfully they did not hit me. The CMBS clearly malfunctioned. Because there was no collision I did not file a police report. This however did put me at a huge risk of getting rear ended. The car has not been inspected since as this is not an open recall. There were no warning signs (lamps, messages, etc) before this occured.
