Hello. I recently purchased a 2022 Honda Civic. The vehicle has faulty steering (sticky) when reaching highway speeds. When I googled the issue description, several articles on class action lawsuits against Honda emerged. The problem prevents the smooth flow of the steering wheel, and when it sticks, you have to overcompensate to return it to normal, which feels very unsafe. I have taken the vehicle to a Honda dealership twice, and there has been no remedy, as the diagnostic test passes. There are no warning warning lamps or messages. I have read on your website that this is currently a recall that is not yet complete. I have owned the vehicle since August, and the problem has been there the whole time. Thank you.

I am experiencing a sticky steering problem. My wheel catches regularly so it feels stuck. This happens at all speeds but especially at highway speeds. My turns are not smooth and the wheel must be torqued more than ever required on a car to turn and break the “lock”.

My transmission is failing and I only have 114000 miles on it. I bought it at 90,000 miles and took it to a mechanic to get a full dignostic and was told the car is in perfect condition. Now the transmission has gone to trash. My engine is still very good and I maintain all fluids, breaks and filters regularly. I’ve seen there was a recall for 2015 civics but for some reason not mine and I find it frustrating because for Honda my car has decently low miles.

My vehicle had an open recall for its fuel pump back in 2021 but I wasn’t having an issue at the time of the recall as of 6 months ago my car won’t turn on and the fuel smell that is in and thru out my car is so bad that. I cannot drive it , it has shut off on me while driving , I took it to a dealership in Fresno ca only to be told there are no open recalls , I clearly told them it was back in 2021 that I received a letter telling me of this but cannot locate the letter I did my research and my year make and model car has the recall but it’s out dated what do I do ,

I just purchased my used 2019 Honda Civic LX a few weeks ago. Online forums warned me of a "sticking" steering wheel and I've noticed they're right. It occurs most often (or is most noticeable) when traveling straight at highway speeds. It seems that the steering wheel "sticks" when no turning input is given for a short time. Eventually, when a steering correction to the left or right is needed by the driver, it is met with a wheel that doesn't want to turn and requires a little extra effort to move the steering wheel off center. The result of the sticking causes the car to over-respond slightly to the left or right input and needs to be re-corrected. This appears to be a known issue for the 10th generation (2016-2021) Civics according to online user forums. I could see where a vehicle having a more severe case of this than my vehicle could pose a serious safety concern. My wife noticed it and it took her by surprise. Recently I saw a similar issue getting attention for the 11th generation (2022-present) Civics and wanted to report mine as having similar symptoms, but in the previous generation body style. After about 15 minutes of highway driving, wheel feels stuck when trying to make small lane adjustments. It requires much more effort to move the wheel for a small increment, then releases. This process continues until turning off the highway. This was dangerous, as it was difficult to steer the vehicle properly without overcorrecting while traveling 40-60mph. Dealer was able to reproduce the issue and has since replaced power steering rack. Issue occurred under 3000 miles.

Car has sticky steering at 40 plus mph. Due to sticky steering the car darts in the direction of steering once sticky spot releases. This happens in both directions.

While driving on the freeway at normal freeway speeds, after 5-10 miles the steering gets sticky. When attempting to make minor steering adjustments to stay within the lane, it takes an extra measure of force to move the steering wheel. It is necessary to concentrate constantly in order to not overcorrect.

My 2022 Honda Civic is having steering issues/problems. The vehicle will have steering issues after 10-15 minutes of driving. It’s very noticeably while driving on the freeway between 30-70 mph. It feels like the steering wheel will lock, i will need to over correct the steering wheel to “unlock” that “locked” steering feel. I have also noticed “clicking” sounds will come from underneath the vehicle will trying the steering wheel. I have taken my vehicle to a Honda Dealership, they inspected the vehicle, and said no recalls have been issued for my vehicle yet. I feel this is a huge safety problem, and hoping this report will help me resolve the issue.

3 out of 4 doors have stopped opening from the outside. The locks still work properly and have no effect on the outside door handles. The doors still open just fine from the inside, except for the driver door. The driver door will not open at all, which is a major safety issue and should have been recalled, especially since the door handles are well known issue for Hondas. Although the car does have minor damages to the body, the door handles have not been affected at all by them. This seems to be an issue that lies inside the door panel itself.

At about 7,000-8,000 miles, I noticed after driving several miles at highway speed, the steering starts to feel sticky, The steering wheel no longer moves smoothly. This makes minor steering adjustments more difficult. The problem seems more pronounced in warmer weather (50F or above). The lane assist is NOT on. I talked to my dealer and they claimed they have no reports of this type of problem. I told the dealer it is all over the internet of hundreds of reports of this steering issue in Civics. The dealer wants to test drive the car overnight but the issue is not as obvious since colder weather has moved in.

The steering is the issue. After driving down the highway at highway speeds for about 30 miles, the steering becomes "sticky" or takes extra effort to pull the steering from its position. There were no warning lamps. The issue is getting fixed under warranty, but I had to do research and take the Honda Service Bulletin in on the issue for them to fix the problem. Before that the dealership stated they had never heard of the problem. There are obvious safety issues attributed with extra steering effort such as not being able to avoid collision.

The steering sticks when traveling at high rates of speed, on highways traveling between 60 - 75 mph. The steering sticks continuously at the high rates of speed on highways after traveling for an hour or so. A slight jerk on the steering wheel will correct the issue, but the sticking seems to get slightly harder to correct the longer the car is driven. The obvious safety issue is over correcting when the steering sticks could put the car and passengers in to other traffic, a retaining wall, ditch, etc. Another concern for safety is the sticky steering that gets harder to correct the longer the car is driven at high rates of speed, very likely, will become stuck and not allow the driver to control the steering at all. Honda dealership in Moss Point, Mississippi did a safety check for the power steering rack recall by Honda, and was made aware of the sticky steering and was given the instructions to detect the malfunction, but stated they did not notice anything wrong. To actually detect the malfuction, some time must be spent on the highway at more than 60 mph. The brief driving of the vehicle on a street riddled with traffic lights, for a few miles, by a technician, then returning to the dealership would not expose the issue. The test given was inadequate, and therefore inaccurate.

Steering in a straight line has become virtually impossible. The Steering Wheel feels "stuck" in position when driving straight or even at a slight curve, with no self-centering or smooth motion. In order to correct, I have to push the steering out of its stuck position and as a result, it over-corrects, requiring another correction - i.e. zig zag motion. Every movement of the steering wheel near its center position requires extra effort and a "push" or "click" out of its stuck position. This has made navigating difficult and inaccurate, with 12-15 of this small "un freeze" movements per mile. The problem has gotten progressively worse, starting around 28,000 miles. I am now at 32,320 miles. Voss Honda in Tipp City performed a front end alignment and wheel balance to try to address the problem. This did not address the issue. I commute from Dayton to Cincinnati for work which is 140 highway round trip. This steering issue requires all of my focus just to maintain any sort of centering in my lane, without any smoothness or micro-adjustments. I am finding it particularly difficult in construction zones that are narrow. The problem is present every time I drive the vehicle, at highway speeds and even lower in the 35-45mph zone. It often sticks in position and will guide me off the road or into another lane unless I FORCE it out of its stuck position.

The steering feels like it is sticking when lane correcting. You have to use more force than needed to correct inside your lane. When it brakes free you have now over corrected. Could definitely cause a wreck. All assisting aspects are turned off. Happens most often when driving straight but have noticed it when doing long curves. One dealership said it was fine. Second said they need to replace the steering rack, rack and pinion, and gearbox. Part is on back order.
