I purchased my 2022 GMC SIERRA XLT in February of 2022. I have had it in the shop 4 times for recalls. They couldn’t or didn't put an inspection sticker on the truck because I honestly don’t think it could have passed inspection. The truck sounds like a truck on Transformer when I turn it off breaking town like a robot. On yesterday which was 1/27/2025 while backing up to turn around the truck started dragging in the back like the breaks locking up, the same thing happened while turning into my driveway off a state highway with an 18 wheeler coming. GMC can’t look at the truck until February 10! This Truck was purchased new and it’s been nothing but trouble. Electrical system goes in and out Steering assist reduced drive with care, Engine power reduced, park assist on then off and truck making unusual noise. I waited 13 YEARS to finally get another brand new vehicle and this what I ended up with. My last new vehicle was a 2004 Honda Pilot. I had 459,000 miles on the truck no engine or transmission issues. I donated the truck to Goodwill. Therefore, I hope GMC understands my frustration when my daughter’s 2019 Kia Optima is out performing my 2022 GMC XLT truck. The back breaks are dragging and locking up, it appears the gears are getting stuck and I can’t back the truck up or go in reverse without the struck staying stuck, then jerking vigorously and problems with the wheel turning to the right the truck get stuck or stall!

During a drive home from dinner, my truck engine completely turned off. I was driving around 25 mph at the time. Car when into neutral and I pulled to the side of the road. Tried to restart the truck, but couldn't not. I had to have the car towed to a dealer. Just got confirmation that my I need a new engine. Then I found that the NHTSA is investigating GMC for this very reason, so I thought I'd file a complaint. * My truck is currently at the dealership, so it is not available for inspection. * While I didn't feel my safety was at risk, If I was driving on a major highway, I may have felt differently. * Yes, problem has been confirmed by a dealership. * Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealer. * The check engine light came on at the beginning of the drive, engine failed ~10 min later.

I was notified at the dealership that my truck had metal in the oil that is causing the oil sensor pump to send a ln engine code. The fix is a new engine.

On 01/24/2025, I was driving my GMC Sierra in the express toll lane at approximately 75 mph. The toll lane had two lanes and was enclosed by concrete barriers on both sides with no median or shoulder to pull over. Without warning, the engine suddenly shut off. There were no warning lights, no unusual noises—just complete engine failure. The power steering also stopped functioning, making it difficult to control the vehicle. I immediately shifted into neutral and focused on keeping the wheel steady to avoid triggering the wheel lock, which could have caused me to lose control and crash. I was forced to coast to a stop, barely managing to find a narrow sliver of space on the median of an on-ramp to the express lane. However, even then, my vehicle was still partially blocking the right lane of the express toll lane and partially in the on-ramp. There was nowhere safe to go, no way to restart the truck, and I couldn’t exit the vehicle due to high-speed traffic surrounding me on both sides. I sat in my disabled truck, utterly exposed, fearing for my life as cars sped past me at 70+ mph. I kept imagining the worst—that an inattentive driver would slam into me, causing a catastrophic accident. Thankfully, after several harrowing minutes, a police officer arrived to block traffic behind me, and another cruiser blocked the entrance to the express lane. Only then did I feel a shred of relief. This was one of the most terrifying experiences I’ve ever endured, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Afterward, I learned that my 6.2L L87 engine had spun the main bearing and now requires a complete engine replacement. In researching this issue, I discovered that the NHTSA is already investigating similar failures in vehicles equipped with this engine. Alarmingly, I also spoke with my Uber driver on the way home, who told me he experienced the exact same failure in his 2023 Escalade with the 6.2L engine. Thankfully, his failure occurred at a red light rather than at highway speeds

The truck has 12k miles on it and a week ago a bearing rod in the engine failed without warning. An engine should not have significant issues like this after only 12k miles of use. The truck is now with Williams Buick GMC in Charlotte, NC and waiting for a replacement engine.

Started using oil and dealer said GMC says it can use 2 qts in between oil changes and few months later driving on interstate and quit running got it home and clinging and wouldn’t start got it to dealer said the engine seized up bearing spun. Took 2 months to get truck back and now afraid it will happen again. GMC should offer a buy back or different year of truck at no cost.

Truck is equipped with AFM and the lifters failed causing a no -power situation. First happens at 57,000 miles then again at 82,000 miles. Not only was this a dangerous situation, but also a very expensive situation. GM knows these are defective and should have been recalled and repaired on their dime, not mine. Pictures of bill included are only of the first repair. Second repair pictures are available upon request.

Day1: vehicle stalled resulting in warning lights related to the batter. Day2: battery was replaced. Day 3: vehicle was driven less than 30 miles and starting making noise under the hood. vehicle stalled in road and was towed to repair shop/dealership. I then received notice the stater needed to be replace to start the vehicle to diagnose. The vehicle started and it was determined the engine was blown and needed to be replaced.

I have been experiencing trasmission problems. The vehicle jerks, shutters and makes numerous thumping sounds during acceleration as well as at certain constant speeds. It frequently make a lound clunking sound when first put in drive and beginning to move. On January 16, 2025, I took the truck to Rubideaux GMC, 351 W Dalton Ave, Hayden ID 83835, for inspection. I was told that the torque converter "was shot" and that the transmission fluid was scorched and there metal shavings in the transmission filter. The service manager informed me that I needed a new transmission at a cost of $7,000. the dealer told me that they will have to find a remanufactured replacement which by their description are in short supply. I went to an independent shop in the area and was quoted a similar price. The employee also advised me of a class action law suite that was in process for 2016-2020 GM trucks and SUV's and passenger cars equipped with the model 8L transmission with the same problem. Several suits are under way including, [XXX] et al v GM, I find this situation especially concerning given the very gentle treatment Ive given this vehicle since I purchased it new. The truck only has 63,000 miles on it and I have never towed anything with this vehicle nor carried any load of more than a couple oh hundred pounds in the bed of the truck. What component failed? Transmission. The transmission is still in the truck pending available replacement. How was your safety put at risk? The transmission could fail while driving causing a lack of vehicle control. Has the problem been reproduced by a dealer? Yes it was confirmed by the dealership listed above. Has vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance? It has been inspected by a licensed GMC dealer. Where there any warning lamps, messages or other symptons.....? The contact's son owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Commercial Vehicle. The contact stated while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed uphill, the vehicle failed to shift to a gear higher than 5th gear. Additionally, the rear wheels locked up, causing the vehicle to come to a stop. The driver attempted to resume driving, but the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The contact was unsure whether a warning light had been illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the driver's girlfriend. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced, but the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I purchased this vehicle new in August of 2024. Approximately 2 months ago when the temperatures outside temperatures started falling below freezing, I would frequently get a message, "reduced acceleration, drive with care" pop-up on the center screen, and the check engine light would illuminate. This happens almost every time the outside air temperatures are below 28-30 degrees. Occasional the truck engine loses power and acceleration, but not always. This code pops-up regardless of the engine temperatures. It has been to the dealer where I bought it each time, and they state that GMC told them it is normal. They reset the computer, and the check engine light goes out until I run the truck in temperatures below 30 degrees. The dealer has been great with me, but dealer reports GMC will not cover their services under warranty as GMC reports this is normal. This condition happens unannounced and almost all the time in cold temperatures. It has happened at least 12 times. The performance can be a safety issue when this condition comes about, and you're driving in traffic. I opened a case with GMC on Thursday, January 16, 2025. It is case number [XXX]. I spoke with Graham, the customer service representative who reported that this issue will be escalated to the regional CE Manager because of the frequency that this is happening. Graham reported to me that this CE Manager will be in touch within 2 business days which would be Monday, January 20, 2025. I received a call mid-day on Wednesday January 22, 2025 from a woman from General Motors. I was at work at my full-time job and could not speak very long. I asked if she could call me after 4:30 PM when I was done working, and she replied "sure, we can make that happen." She advised me to get my truck to the dealership. My truck has been at the dealership since last week. As I am typing this, I just received a call from a Christian. Please review attached pictures, and call if you need elaboration. [XXX] . I was driving on the highway and my truck went black and engine stopped no power to truck. It was very scary. I pulled over and it was in Neutral and somehow got it into park. The car never would turn over. The truck is at midway motors with metal shavings in the engines. They say it locked up and needs replaced. GM is very difficult to work with and won’t give us any information. I’m scared of the truck.

While traveling on the highway the engine shut off. No warning, noises or lights where on before. Check engine light came on when the engine shut off. Was able to get off the road on to the shoulder. This was an huge safety concern as I had no way to move the truck. After getting the vehicle to the dealer it was a spun rod bearing. Had 7000 miles on it at the time. Dealer replaced the the parts and had the truck back after three weeks. Metal is oil pan. 1, 2 and 8 rod bearing spun scoring on main bearing and crankshaft. There was no issues with the truck prior. I bought it new.

I was driving my truck on Friday, [XXX], at approximately 50 m.p.h. The tires suddenly locked up and skidded momentarily and then released. Then a very loud clanging noise started in the engine. I lost power and coasted to the side of the road. Then the engine stalled. The truck was towed to Keeweenaw Chevy/GMC in Houghton, Michigan. I was later contacted by the Service Department and informed that the engine had indeed blown and a new engine would need to be installed. Engines are on LONG backorder. I was lucky I wasn't traveling 65 m.p.h or on snow covered roads, as this incident could have then resulted in a complete loss of control and hitting a logging truck head on.
