The tailgate on my truck opened while I was driving and I was unaware until I got to my destination. I had a utility trailer attached at the time and my tailgate was damaged from the jack on the trailer. I thought maybe I didn't latch the tailgate but it has been several days since I opened it. The following day the tailgate dropped two more times in less than a mile. I see there is a service bulletin and recall on most GM models but my truck is not included. I made a service appointment at my local dealership for them to inspect. The service writer already stated that my truck has no open recalls. I feel this is a safety issue first and second my truck has body damage. I use my truck as a truck and usually have stuff in the bed. My truck is completely stock with no modifications except a GMC bed cover that I purchased at the dealership. I'm hoping for the best on Monday 2/17/25 when I take my truck in to be inspected.

I went to start my truck after going into the store and the Service Power Steering ESC warning came on and I had no power steering. This is a very dangerous situation without power steering in the vehicle and someone is bound to get seriously injured if this happens while they are driving. I have read numerous threads on this same issue and it does not look like GM has taken this into accounty by recalling all these vehicles with this same exact issue. While most complain that when they take it to the dealership, they cant find any error codes, or when the replace the modules it starts creating more issues with other electronics. GM needs to take care of this issue with the power steering module so the safety of their drivers is not compromised.

Transmission malfunctioned while driving, causing no available power to move the vehicle. Had to coast in neutral and stopped in the road. Towed the truck to the dealer and they confirmed the transmission has failed. No warning lamps present or pre-indication of failure.

- #11642698February 14, 2025POWER TRAIN, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I have experienced several occurrences of unintended acceleration while operating the vehicle at low speed. Two recent examples; 1) the truck accelerated rapidly while I was driving into my garage, and 2) the truck accelerated suddenly when pulling forward out of a parking spot in the morning shortly after starting the vehicle. In all cases, a hard application of the brake pedal slowed the vehicle. I considered whether this was operator error, possibly engaging cruise control inadvertently while turning the steering wheel, but the incident this morning does not support that potential cause. I have not spoken to the dealer about this issue.

At approximately 18,000 miles the engine on my brand new GMC seized up while I was taking 4 of my employees Downtown Detroit. The engine stopped as I was merging into 3 lanes of traffic from the left lane. I had to cross 3 lanes during rush hour almost resulting in a major accident. Then I had to wait 2 months to replace the engine. 25,000 miles later, the second engine seized up while I was transporting my father between nursing home facilities. The third engine, I have recently been told only has a 12,000 mile warranty. I have requested that GM give me a 60,000 mile warranty on this 3rd engine and they refuse as it is past 30 days since the 3rd engine was installed. I should be getting a new truck, but I am just asking for a warranty. This is a known problem, which obviously has not been fixed. In both instances, there were no indications of a problem until the engine stopped running. The first time, I had 4 of my employees, which I was responsible for, in my car merging in the left lane with no engine power during rush hour, putting everyone at great risk, including other cars and people. The 2nd time, I had my [XXX] father in transit between nursing home facilities. This obviously was a very stressful event for both of us. Both of the dealerships that replaced the engines confirmed that they have been seeing this same issue in many other GM trucks. I personally know of 3 people that this has happened to. In both cases, I had to wait weeks to replace the engine because of the backlog to order the engine for other people. - #11642476February 13, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
On a normal trip to work the dash light lit up then gave me these warnings. Service ESC, Service Trailer brake, Brake system Failure-62 mph top speed, steering assist reduced. Dashboard lights that were on, ABS Check Engine, Brake, Traction Control. When I tried to slow down the power assist was gone on the brakes, I had a little braking when I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor as hard as i could, when I went to turn the wheel was hard to turn. I have had no issues like this before. After I managed to stop and turn off then on the vehicle everything came back expect for a warning to service the trailer brakes and the check engine light was still on. It all cleared after a few more restarts. I got the truck to the dealer 4 days later and they said it was the battery going bad even though I was not having any problem starting the vehicle, I had them replace the battery. I am unsure if the problem is resolved, time will tell. What I am sure of is if my daughter had been driving the truck, she would not have had the strength to get the brakes to work or turn the wheel, she would have had a accident for sure.

While driving on the highway the engine 6.2 GM seized suddenly at high speed. The truck shut off completely and left rolling without any control. I had work my way accross lanes to the breakdown lane. While doing so I was almost hit by an 18 wheel trailer truck, who luckily was able to change lanes to avoid hitting me. The reason I was almost hit was because of my low speed since I had now power or acceleration.

Radio software glitch (bulletin 23-NA-183) cuts blower fan speed to 50% or below resulting in ineffective defrost during winter months. GM knows of the issue and has a radio software update but will not complete this as warranty and/or recall and will demand you pay for the correction. Due to the uncontrolled and loss of power to fan that cannot be corrected by the owner (ex. turning radio off/on will not fix it) this has become a serious safety concern as the windshield can fog, frost, or freeze while driving the vehicle.

The engine failed. There was no warning. The truck literally just cut off in the middle of the road. I never saw any lights or there was no symptoms to lead up to this incident.

The transmission failed which stemmed from the faulty (recently recalled valve body). General Motors has been contacted and there is no transmission in sight and is not able to provide an ETA. They are also not willing to cover the catastrophic failure because I am outside of my warranty terms. The dealership has inspected and concluded a whole new transmission is recommended. The vehicle has been in their possible for nearly one (1) month.

I started my truck on [XXX] and after driving less than 3 miles the check engine light came on and then light for traction control needs service came on. I stopped and notice engine was idling weird. So I called dealer and they recommended I bring in. I proceeded to drive but could not drive over 40 mph as the engine would not idle past that and started hearing clicking noises. I slowly get the vehicle into service at McKinney GMC Buick in McKinney, TX. Two days later I get a call stating that engine needs to be replaced due to bearing failure and excessive metal in oil and oil filter. Which damaged the engine and is not repairable. The service center informed that this is common with my 6.2 L V8 and there are four other trucks same issues. The engine is on back order and don't know when I will be able to get my vehicle back. This appears to be a known issue for GMC and they are not telling people who could be in danger on road at any moment without warning. Complete engine failure while driving on interstate. Vehicle went into neutral. After rolling to a stop on highway. Vehicle would not go into gear. Tow was unable to put vehicle into saftey mode and had to drag vehicle onto tow bed. At dealership techs were also unable to get vehicle to turn on or go into gear. Dealer advised the engine was complete seized. This happened while traveling on the highway there was no warning or signs of something being wrong. Vehicle simply lost all power and went into neutral while traveling 70mph with 37k on the odometer.

I was driving to work on Saturday morning [XXX]. As I pulled out of the stop sign and approached 45 mph the engine stop. Making me a hazard within the road. I had to abruptly pull off into a road/yard in order to be safe. All while not having a power as the engine completely stopped. Upon investigation the dealership, Budd Baer in Washington Pennsylvania confirmed the engine had seized up due an issue in rotating assembly. In August 2023, while driving on the interstate during rush hour, a critical engine component fell out of my vehicle, leaving me stranded in a dangerous situation. The car was towed to the dealership, where I was informed that a piston had fallen off the engine, requiring a full engine replacement. Now, in January 2025, my vehicle has once again failed—this time shutting off completely while I was driving on the Selmon Expressway, putting my safety at risk. After being towed to the dealership, I have now been informed that the engine has seized and will not turn, requiring yet another full engine replacement. This is completely unacceptable. As a loyal GMC owner, I have never experienced such catastrophic failures, let alone twice within such a short period. Engine replacements should not be a recurring issue, and I am deeply frustrated by the lack of reliability and the significant financial and safety concerns this has caused.

Since my purchase of the vehicle Dec 2023, the tailgate opens on its own. Usually follows hitting a bump such as the rain gutter entering a store parking area. I have also had it occur while driving down the road. Have been told multiple times by my service personnel they have had same complaints from other Sierra 1500 but have no fix for the problem. They have offered to deactivate the electronic tailgate system but this is unacceptable to me. There is a recall for 2500 models with same issue but not for 1500’s. This makes little sense.
