i took my car in for an oil change and the tech wouldn’t even take my money because he said the car was a safety issue and it needed to be taken to a hyundai dealership ASAP as he has seen the engine fail or blow up on this model before. on the way to the dealer the engine completely seized in the middle of the road forcing us to stop traffic on the busy road and push it in a near by parking lot.

Excessive Oil Burning and Oil Consumption. Oil turns black abnormally quickly (within the first 500-1000 miles) even though recommended Full-Synthetic Oil is used. Engine has intermittent rough idle once engine is warm. Occasionally engine experiences "near-stall" and "misfire event", causing the battery light to flash on dashboard. >>>Oil consumption rate is approximately 3-4 quarts per 1,000 miles<<< ***Maintenance completed since purchase*** Coolant Flush - Replaced PCV Valve (NEW) - Replaced Valve cover Gasket + Oil Pan / Oil Pan Gasket (recommended by dealer) (NEW) - Replaced Spark Plugs (recommended by dealer) (NEW) - Replaced Battery (NEW) - Replaced Alternator (NEW) - Replaced both engine accessory belts (NEW) - Replaced 150A main fuse (located on positive battery terminal) (NEW) - Used Hyundai brand oil filters - Used Chevron/Techron Complete Fuel system cleaner twice, between and at oil change (as recommended by "Twin City Hyundai" dealer in Alcoa, TN) ***Had dealership inspect it for approval of known Federal Recall on GDI Engines for excessive oil consumption / engine seizing issues; dealership claimed it did not pass re-call approval*** SYMPTOMS STILL PERSIST Mileage is now approx. 80K

The Full stereo system with cameras and most sensors and the car is currently at the dealership as 03/09 @11:00 am and I took It to them as well so that they can repair the other pending recall I have at the moment and they stated that It was a " point to point check recall " and that they would change it whether it would need to be or not and I raised concerns about another possible recall on the car and if they could check it out which is my stereo system they tried to charge me almost $200 and " the symptoms or warnings " was that sometimes it would happen but Instead of It going out completely I was able to troubleshoot it by pressing on the little button under the volume button

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced excessive oil consumption, caused by engine rod bearing failure. The engine rod bearing failure caused excessive oil consumption and premature spark plug fouling, requiring the frequent replacement of the spark plugs. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

I was driving on the highway and the engine shut off but everything else remained on. I drifted to the breakdown lane and turned the car off. It would not start again and the car began acting up by turning lights on and off, telling me to check the tire pressure, and not unlocking the doors. I then saw some very light smoke from the engine compartment. I popped the hood and looked and saw a glow on the bottom side of the engine area. Then the car just went up in flames.

Recall 286 my vehicle suffered from this causing heat module failure misfire in cylinder 2 and high pressure in gas tank. Sports Hyundai had previously done a 180 day repair under recall 9b1 for an expanded gas tank after the repair the car suffered from the updated recall 286 . I brang to the dealership 4 times with check engine and misfires and limp mode between 57k and 68k they refused to fix the car under recall 286 and cleared all the codes and continued to make me leave in a unsafe car. On February 14th it sport Hyundais negligence was the direct cause of an auto accident were the car was unable to move out the way because of lack of power /limp mode. I begged them in the final days of me having the car to fix it and saying I didn’t feel safe and they wouldn’t without an extensive amount of money I could not provide . I’m currently filing a claim with Hyundai consumer affairs and the dca in Newark and also my senators office and I have a lawyer also who might help I wish to report this to the NHTSA.

Hello everyone. Since I purchased the vehicle new, the HVAC controls have never functioned properly. The A/C engages with the button off; this issue is only temporary solved by turning the button on and off again. The mode defaults to face and feet; this issue is only temporary solved by cycling through the modes until you reach your desired mode. Besides this being a very annoying problem, I found this to be dangerous for me because I like cool air blowing to my face, and I rarely catch this issue on time. Instead of cool air blowing to my face only as it's selected in my car, cool air is being blown to my face and feet instead. My feet get numb and my foot movements are slow when theyre too cold, and it takes a long time to warm back up. I usually pull over for a few minutes to warm my feet up to get back on the road, sometimes I'll get out of my car and walk back and forth to get the blood flow going. The dealership has inspected my vehicle twice to get it fixed under warranty, but so far their repairs have not solved the problem. In my opinion it is most likely a software bug that could be caused by a faulty module or program code, or something in the canbus system. I am almost certain that it is not a mechanical failure.

The contact’s daughter owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. While driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the owner that the failure would not be covered under warranty due to a lack of engine maintenance on the vehicle. The owner provided the maintenance records. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

My 2013 Hyundai Sonata has a replacement 2.0T Theta II engine. Recently, it developed a fuel leak that identically matches the description of Hyundai recall Recall 22-01-047H (NHTSA #22V-312). I have attached a description of my fuel leak as assesed by a Hyundai dealership alongside a .pdf of the NHTSA safety recall report to demonstrate that the issue is identical. Hyundai corporate is refusing to acknowledge that this is an identical issue and that my exact VIN group for 2013 Sonatas should be included in this recall. This issue represents a serious risk to life and property that Hyundai is refusing to officially address. They have refused to cover repairs for this issue. Additional info: my car has 124,047 miles on the odometer, but this replacement engine only has about 26,000 miles on it.

Vehicle WITHOUT WARNING will start to jerk then go into “limp” mode. Pressing on gas pedal makes the revving noise but with not physical movement made. This has happened on MULTIPLE occasions (13 times in 4 months) including in the snow and on the interstate while driving at 70mph where no shoulder is available to pull over. Car was taken to dealership 3 different times with no actual diagnosis, tests were ran all 3 times with nothing. Eventually the 3rd time at the dealership I was told the transmission was being replaced although they were not sure what actually caused the issue (this is written in the service report by the rep/mechanic). CAR REMAINS UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE. Livelihood of myself, family and other drivers is at risk EVERYTIME I put the car in drive due to this mechanical issue. NO WARNINGS NO POWER NO FIX.

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle and leaving it unoccupied, the contact's daughter, who was seated on a porch, called the contact informing her there was grey/blue smoke emitting from the vehicle. The smoke increased, and fire droppings were coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact arrived back at the vehicle and saw the fire coming from underneath the vehicle. The fire started in the engine bay. There was property damage to the driveway, and the fire was eventually extinguished by the fire department. Prior to the fire department, the contact's daughter and neighbors attempted to extinguish the fire with water. The front passenger side tire blew out as a result of the fire. The contact's insurance company informed her that her vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V312000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE), the recall repair was never completed due to the owner being unaware of it. The vehicle was left on the driveway. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.
