The vehicle was charging to 100% and once it reached 81%, jumped to 100% and stopped charging. Two days later, the vehicle populated an error “Battery Management System”. The vehicle was checked in to a dealer and it was confirmed that there was a faulty cell, and the high voltage battery must be replaced. It was confirmed that if I were to keep driving, the battery reading could drop at any point to 5% or lower, and continue to fluctuate causing a concern for safety with potentially losing all power.

I have a lease on a 2024 Hyundai Icoprniq 5. There is a recall due to ICCU issues. We had this car in service but it did not fix the issue. The car is now sitting dead in my driveway and will not move. Hyundai is refusing to do anything to fix the problem.

The Integrated Charge Control Unit failed despite having all related recall repairs/actions implemented. Failure occurred while pulling into a parking place after completing level 2 charging to 80%. The failure has not yet been confirmed by the dealer, but all common symptoms match this failure including hearing a pop sound from the rear of the vehicle followed by “Check Electrical System” indication and limited distance low power, low speed mode. Had this happened while driving at highway speed, the sudden loss in power and speed could have been dangerous to respond to and get off the highway safely. The vehicle is scheduled to be inspected by the dealer shortly.

Our 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been sitting unrepaired for almost five months due to a complete lack of availability of an essential replacement part (front bumper lower molding part number 86569PI000). The car was involved in a minor collision on [XXX], and although no one was hurt and the airbags did not deploy, the vehicle has remained unrepairable and inoperable. The car sensors can not be calibrated without this part, thus affecting all front sensors of the vehicle. Both the Hyundai-certified repair facility and our insurance company have confirmed that the necessary part is on national backorder with no estimated date of arrival, despite extensive efforts to source it — including looking on eBay and through nationwide networks. This was also confirmed by Hyundai Customer Support with whom we opened case [XXX]. The part involved is necessary for proper calibration of front sensors of the vehicle. We are continuing to pay on the lease while the car sits undriveable and depreciating. This has placed a major financial burden on us and raises broader safety concerns. Hyundai is apparently unable or unwilling to supply parts for its current-year models, which may compromise the safe restoration of structurally- or electronically-damaged vehicles. We respectfully request that NHTSA investigate Hyundai’s inability to supply safety-critical parts for its 2025 models, and determine whether this systemic delay poses a risk to consumers and undermines post-collision safety standards. The repair shop is Advanced Collision Repair in Escondido, CA, 760-741-7565. The shop’s manager is John McLure. Component or System Involved: High-voltage battery system — fault code P1AA700. The vehicle is currently located at an authorized Hyundai dealership and available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The vehicle became undriveable due to a potential high-voltage battery failure, posing a significant risk of electrical hazard or loss of propulsion. I was advised by the dealership not to drive or retrieve the vehicle due to safety concerns. As the sole user of the vehicle in a household with children and daily transportation needs, this created a severe disruption and risk to personal and family safety, especially if the issue had occurred while driving. Confirmation of the Problem: The issue has been confirmed by the dealership, who retrieved the fault code. However, they are unable to complete diagnosis without Hyundai Corporate’s “Techline” technician, whose response is still pending as of this report. The vehicle has been at the dealership since June 30, 2025. Inspection: The dealership has begun inspection but cannot complete diagnosis or repair until Hyundai Corporate provides guidance. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance, but it is under review by Hyundai’s technical assistance team. Warning Messages or Symptoms: Yes — prior to the failure, the vehicle displayed dashboard warning messages related to the high-voltage battery system, and the drivetrain became unresponsive. These warnings appeared just before the vehicle became unsafe to operate.

The ICCU in the car failed. It immediately limited the speed of the vehicle to 25mph. There were no warnings, it happened all at once. I had to drive on the shoulder of the interstate to the next exit. Obviously, driving 25 on the shoulder while cars passed me at 65+ was not a safe situation.

I had ICCU software recall done in spring 2025 then Vehicle died twice while driving on highway, ...suddenly. "warning 12 volt batt low pull over" stranding my family twice on highway. could not operate anything. Mc Govern Hyundai said it was fixed after 44 days. 2 days later failed again .dealer said it was ok again but would not replace ICCU or 12v batt. the amber light that indicates when !2v batt. is being charged would never come on. they said they found nothing wrong.

Interior driver's side door handle broke off. The driver cannot open the door without lowering the window (electrically operated) and reaching outside to pull the exterior door handle. The car must remain of to do this (if off, the window cannot be lowered). I deem this to be extremely dangerous in the event of an accident when the car cannot be started; the driver is stuck in the car.

When i was out driving with my little daughter, in the middle of the road, the car showed a warning of “check electric system”. The car was very slow and went into limp mode. I had to quickly park at a shoulder. Called roadside assistance, they sent a tow truck within 40 mns, the car was completley dead when they arrived. They had to send another tow truck that arrived after another 35 mns. I had to wait in the heat with my little daughter till they transferred us to the dealer , the repair for the iccu failure took 2 weeks. Now i am very scared each time i drive the car that this might happen again.

My EV’s ICCU failed. It has since been fixed and is not available for inspection. Yes, my safety was at risk because my speed was suddenly limited away from home and I had to get my family home. After a wait of about 3.5 weeks, the dealer confirmed it was an ICCU failure and replaced the ICCU about one week after that. There were no warnings until the failure occurred. I believe Hyundai’s ICCU problems are well-known, but want NHTSA to be aware.

ICCU failure leading to being stranded 120 miles from home as I returned from a vacation with my family. The vehicle was working fine for half of the trip, then after we stopped for lunch, the car went into a "limp mode" max of 25 mph as I was entering the highway. I got a warning telling me to inspect my electrical system and pull over immediately. There were no warning signs. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealer (still 110 miles from home). The dealer confirmed what happened - an iccu failure where the 12v battery was not charging - and I had the iccu replaced. This is a problem impacting many Hyundai Ioniq cars. The dealer and manufacturer was not able to tell me why it happened or what I could do to try to prevent it happening again. I have no confidence in this car

ICCU failed while driving. Risk was that I suddenly had to pull over safely, as my car would no longer accelerate. This is a known issue, yet they haven’t fully addressed it over years. I had it taken in for recall fixes, and the part still failed 2 weeks later. There was no warning before it happened. But failure signs appeared after.

The car made a loud popping noise and immediately started displaying electrical system fault errors. The car propulsion stopped within 15 seconds and was not able to be moved after. I was on the freeway and just barely made it over to the side. Car was not able to be towed by a regular tow truck because the electrical system was gone and the car was not able to be shifted into neutral. Jump starting the battery did nothing. Car was sent to the dealer who confirmed that the car sustained an ICCU failure which controls the entire battery electric system. The ICCU had to be replaced. There is already a mandatory recall on the vehicle regarding the ICCU. The recall was to check the status and confirm that the ICCU was working properly and in good condition. I had this recall done BEFORE the ICCU failed, so even though the recall check was performed, the ICCU still failed and put me in a very dangerous situation. The car is 6 months old and has 6200 miles on the odometer.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit of the fully electric Hyundai Ioniq5 stopped working while I was driving my son home from the Zoo. I got a warning that there was an electrical system issue and I needed to immediately stop the car. The car lost power quickly, and I was luckily able to pull over into a parking lot and await a tow truck. This is a chronic saftey issue with Ioniq 5s and needs to be addressed.

I bought this ioniq 5 pre-owned at 10,000 miles on 6/21/25. Clean carfax and no active recalls. One mile off the lot the system I received the message "12V battery voltage low. Stop safely." The car completely turned off. Could not put it in neutral. I was stranded on the road and it could have caused an accident. I got it towed near an auto shop and bought a new battery, thinking it was just a dead 12V battery. The car turned on and seemed to resolved the issue, but after 20 minutes of driving, it completely turned off again on the road. Very dangerous. I dropped it off at Platinum Hyundai of Tracy dealership and am awaiting a diagnostic.

ICCU FAILURE. Car was being parked at night and there was a pop sound towards the back. It sounded like I ran over a branch. Immediately I received a “Check electrical vehicle system” warning light. The car could not be shifted into drive. It was towed the next day to the dealership. Oddly enough I had an appointment later that week with the same dealership to address the ICCU recall but part failed before it could be addressed. The car was able to be repaired within 10 days. No loaner provided because dealership had a 20 people waitlist. I had to rent a car instead. When looking into this issue online, a 10 day turnaround time seems on the shorter end of the typical timeframe. I’ve heard stories online (see Reddit) and seen YouTube videos of people waiting months.

Dear NHTSA, On [XXX] at [XXX] CST, my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL experienced a sudden ICCU failure. While reversing into my driveway, I heard a loud “pop,” followed by warning messages: “Stop vehicle and check power supply” and “Check electric vehicle system.” A DTC scan showed code P1A90(96). The car became inoperable and had to be towed to a Hyundai dealership. The dealer confirmed ICCU failure and replaced both the ICCU and fuse on 6/17/2025. However, the replacement was not a redesigned part—it was the same model that failed. I purchased this vehicle in March 2025 as a Certified Pre-Owned with ~12,000 miles. All recall-related ICCU updates had been completed before this incident. There were no warning signs before the failure. This failure could have been dangerous had it occurred on a highway, in extreme weather, or far from help with my [XXX] daughter with me. I no longer feel safe driving this car. Hyundai’s recall remedy is clearly not effective, and they continue replacing defective ICCUs with the same flawed units. They have not disclosed the root cause or implemented a permanent fix. I urge NHTSA to: Investigate ongoing ICCU failures despite recall compliance. Mandate a stop-sale of affected vehicles until a real fix is found. Require Hyundai to disclose the root cause. Consider a buyback program if no safe solution is available. This is a serious safety risk. These failures will continue without regulatory action. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Over the two years I have owned this vehicle I have had to replace the windshield three times. I am on my fourth windshield and have three chips/crack already. I have never experience crack/chips like this or at this frequency. I am at a point where I am concerned the getting my windshield replace will cause my insurance to increase because the frequency and expense. Because of have a heads up display the windshield cost up to $1,500 to replace and calibrate. I drive my vehicle on paved roads and the highway only. There are many reports online for similar issues.
