The vehicle was sold to us with pre-existing major damage to the control arms, bearings and a brake rotor. We heard a metal on metal scraping noise when turning left and immediately took it to a certified Honda dealer who then provided us details of the extent of the damage. The damage to the brake rotor could have caused brake failure and damage to the control arm could have caused on accident. I can't imagine the guilt I'd feel if my [XXX] wife and my [XXX] son got into an accident. This vehicle is their daily driver. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The emissions system continues to malfunction despite multiple repair attempts, with the emission sensor reactivating as recently as February 2025. The VTC oil control valve also previously leaked but was replaced. The battery and seatbelt buckle issues were successfully resolved. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The emissions system malfunction may impair engine performance or emissions control, creating potential environmental and mechanical hazards. While the seatbelt and battery issues have since been resolved, they previously created safety risks—such as an unreliable restraint system warning and unexpected failure to start the vehicle. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the dealership (Winter Haven Honda) has confirmed the emissions system fault multiple times, including diagnostic sessions in December 2024, January 2025, and February 2025. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been repeatedly inspected by the dealership in consultation with American Honda Motor Co. No inspections by police or insurance representatives have been reported. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The emissions warning light first appeared on December 9, 2024, and continued to reappear on December 12, 2024, January 7, 2025, and again in February 2025. These warning messages clearly indicate an unresolved system issue

Issue : Engine Idle Restart malfunction Incident Description: I was driving my Honda [Model, Year] when I encountered a serious safety issue related to the Engine Idle Auto Start-Stop system. While stopped in traffic at a red light, the auto start-stop feature engaged and turned off the engine as expected. However, when the light turned green and I released the brake, the engine failed to restart automatically. I was stuck in the middle of moving traffic, unable to accelerate or move the vehicle. This unexpected failure caused a dangerous traffic obstruction and put me at serious risk of being rear-ended. I had to manually restart the vehicle under pressure, with vehicles approaching behind me, creating a high-stress and potentially crash-prone situation. This issue is especially concerning because this vehicle was previously subject to a Honda recall for this exact problem, and I was informed that the fix had been applied. Clearly, the issue persists and the so-called fix is not effective. This malfunction not only compromises my safety but also that of other drivers. I request immediate attention to this recurring issue and urge Honda to take responsibility by issuing a proper and permanent fix.

On Feb 17th I was on a 4.5 hour trip. I wasn’t experiencing any issues with my vehicle until the last 20 min of the trip. I exited the highway to refill with gas before the final leg home. I pulled into the gas station, shut off my pilot, and refueled. Upon restarting my vehicle the vehicle wouldn’t start. After several failed attempts I needed to jump start the vehicle to get it started. Once it started I didn’t have another issue. I took my vehicle in for testing and found no issues with the battery or starter. This was the second occurrence so I purchased a portable battery charger for when this happens again.

This was my first experience with an electrical/engine/battery issue with this pilot. I was in the midst of driving during a 14 hour road trip. In the middle of my drive I needed to stop for gas. I pulled into a gas station and turned off the pilot to refuel. After refueling I attempted to start my vehicle. After several attempts and the battery/engine not starting, I needed to have my pilot jumped. After the vehicle restarted I had no further issues on my trip. After returning home I had my battery checked and there were no issues with the battery.

The car on multiple occasions (4 separate incidents) after stopping at a red light or stop sign and the auto stop system stopped the engine, once the brake pressure is released, the car would auto start then immediately shift into neutral and completely shut off (engine, electrical, etc). Driver would have to coast/stop at side of road and turn car off and on again. In 2 of the incidents, this happened on a two lane road and completely blocked traffic until the driver could figure out what was happening and restart the car.

Pilot will shut off at stop signs and red lights. Software update completed in 2023 but issue persists. I shut the “feature” off as soon as I turn car on. It has happened despite this. It may be draining the battery. On third battery in two years. Currently at dealership to complete next warranty update.

My 2019 Honda Pilot start/stop feature shut down my car in a busy intersection and would not start up again. Dashboard warning lights flickered and no response to trying to start the vehicle. Towed to dealer at my expense and had to replace battery on 04/04/2023 for 2019 car.

Hello, I have owned my 2019 Pilot for almost 6 years. From day one, I have had ongoing issues including over 12 situations in which my vehicle would not restart at stoplights, 4-way stops or other areas (my driveway, gas station etc.). I have had the vehicle jump started multiple times by my extended warranty company, my husband and neighbor and towed to the dealer. My most recent stall when not even let me turn on my hazards as my vehicle completely died at the stoplight. I have called 911 multiple times to protect me from being rear-ended. I fear for my life driving the vehicle. My kids refuse to also drive the vehicle. Honda does not have any answers for the fix. There are over 1,000 complaints from vehicle owners. Let's do something before someone is rear-ended and killed! Look at my service history! My car is a lemon, and has lost value. I deserve peace of mind driving this vehicle and compensation for this never ending nightmare.

The engine fails to restart at times after the auto engine idle cuts the engine off when stopped. The previous recall has been completed. When I returned my vehicle to the dealership to have it checked again because the same issue continued to occur, I was told the battery needed to be replaced. I have since replaced the battery with a Honda battery from the dealership yet the issue still occurs. It seems to be worse in cold weather.

The start/stop mechanism is believed to be not working properly at all times. The car will turn off when we are at a stop or red light and we hit the gas to go, the car turns off. When the car turns off we are left at the light or stop while the rest of the cars go. We almost get rear ended because we are expected to go and don’t. We got honked at and at times in dangerous parts of the road with low visibility of our car at the bottom of a hill. We have toddlers in the car in car seats and it’s extra dangerous. The dealer has not been able to reproduce the problem and therefore they say there is no problem even after showing them videos of different occasions. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, or others. We have contacted the manufacturer and they also shrugged and said we can’t reproduce the problem so there’s nothing to fix/do. There are no warning lights before it happens it just doesn’t turn on and then it displays a series of steps that are required in order to turn the car back on. I have videos of it. We have been dealing with this since may 2022 I have record of taking it to the dealer 8 times and all the repairs they recommended each time and what we have paid for.
