I had been driving for a few hours and my car suddenly became difficult to steer. This is the first time this has happened and was very scary. The steering wheel would lock up and stick while driving on the highway. The only way to unstick the wheel was to overcorrect the steering wheel by pulling it to one side, which made me slightly swerve the vehicle. The car does not feel safe to drive anymore.

When driving at highway speeds, the power steering seems to stick when the wheel has not been turned for a few seconds (as in driving on a straight away). When minor corrections are needed, the steering wheel sticks, which results in a slight over correction. The conditions under which this happens is: warm air temperature, driving time over 15 minutes, and driving at highway speed.

When driving freeway speeds, steering is very loose and difficult to control. When driving more than 30 minutes or more, the steering locks up and have to give it a jerk to gain control of steering. Mileage on 2016 Honda Civic is 58272 as of inspection by Honda on 1/17/24. Honda verified issue is Steering Rack which thousands of 2016 Honda Civic owners are reporting same issue. Original issue began in 2019 and reported to Honda at that time. Please review complaint. Thank you.

The car crashed into the back of the truck in front of it. The crash caused the airbag to go off and either the airbag itself or the area that covers the steering wheel cut my wife’s jaw/throat. She was luck it did not cut her artery or wind pipe she was able to be transported to the hospital and survived.

Amid sliding briefly on ice, the driver side front and rear curtain airbags of my 2013 Honda Civic deployed. No collision or impact occurred to trigger this and, correspondingly, no external damage to the vehicle was sustained. Post-airbag deployment, despite the unexpected bodily impact, sudden jolt, and visual obstruction caused by the airbags, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and maneuver to a nearby parking lot. Upon visual inspection of the vehicle, I confirmed no evidence of collision. The following day, Honda ran full diagnostics on the vehicle. The dealership indicated tests would reveal certain codes triggered w/ airbag deployment (what caused them to deploy). Inspection results, however, revealed no codes found in the proprietary computer, nor other detectable evidence of any cause. I asked whether a defect was possible and was told this could neither be confirmed nor ruled out. Per the dealer's explanation, only the presence of improper codes could reveal this with absolute certainty. In essence, the only explanation I received was that no explanation could be found. Honda denied my request to put these details in writing. I was given only a vague summary of the damage and a list of costs required for repair, totaling to over $10,000 (invoice attached). Geico said damages caused by airbag deployment are not covered by any policy unless a collision is reported. If deployment occurs w/o collision but other valid causal factor(s) are detected by inspection, damages may be covered under collision; However, if no cause is determined and no collision has occurred, damages are not covered. I am now left with a vehicle that is extremely unsafe to drive, over $10,000 worth of damage that neither insurance nor manufacturer will cover, and a left-side rib injury obtained by airbag impact, w/ associated ER costs. Although I obtained only minor physical injuries from this incident, myself and/or others could have been seriously injured or killed.

While driving at highway speeds in a straight line the steering becomes sticky. It takes more effort than should be needed to correct the steering to stay in your lane. It can cause me to correct too much and make it difficult to maintain driving in the center of the lane.

"While driving my 2022 Honda Civic sport straight on the highway at speeds over 40 mph, an abnormal amount of force needs to be applied to the steering wheel in order to make minor directional corrections. This excess steering sensitivity poses a safety risk, as minor but necessary steering adjustments require excessive effort and attention while driving at high speeds

The steering “sticks” and while driving it is necessary to oversteer to keep the car in the lane. This is a problem at all speeds but is especially scary at highway speeds. The car has just started doing this and has not been to the dealer yet. We have the same model car that is one year older than the one I am reporting here. It has the same issue and the dealer agreed to replace faulty steering components but it has not yet been fixed. I have already reported the other vehicle.

The steering “sticks” or catches while driving. I have to constantly over correct steering to compensate and keep the car in the lane. This is especially troubling at highway speeds. I took the car to the dealer and they were able to reproduce the issue. They said there are faulty steering components and agreed to replace. Repairs have not been completed as of date.

The steering has become "notchy" or "sticking" at highway speeds. Any small adjustments between 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock on the steering wheel require more steering force. I'm unsure if this is a steering rack, power steering, or steering column issue. The issue can be replicated. I just worry about safety of others on the road as well as my own. I bought this car to be reliable for my clinical rotations out of state, and have some worries now. My civic only has 28k miles on it and was bought new. My steering rack was evaluated by a certified dealer for recall, and the serial number was deemed normal. No faults or warning signs have appeared. I called a dealer today, they are aware of the issue in "15 other civics," but can not act since Honda has not released any information/solution. The service advisor just told me, "be careful." No other advice or instructions given.

Steering wheel is sticking. Took it for service at Piazza Honda in Limerick Pennsylvania and I was told that they were aware of this issue on the 11th generation Honda civics. They do not know of a fix and currently have 2 other Hondas there with the same issue. This is a major safety hazard. I do not feel safe driving this car or putting my kids in the car.

The Steering on my Vehicle is sticky at moderate to high Speeds! Whenever im driving and i need to make small corrections, the steering sticks causing me to have to apply more force to the Steering Wheel to overcome the Stickiness which then is causing my Vehicle to swerve slightly, i believe under the right circumstances that can become dangerous! Honda dealer was Notified, inspection was carried out by said Honda Dealer. I was informed the part that needs to be replaced is on Backorder and won’t be in for a COUPLE MONTHS! No Loner Vehicle was offered, the Dealership informed me that they are well aware of the Problem and that the Vehicle is safe to drive. No warning Lamps are illuminated at the Time the Sticky Steering is occurring.

- #11569546February 2, 2024AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS
The air bag light came on in April of 2022 indicating that the air bag will not deploy in the event of a car accident. We took the car to the Honda dealership and the mechanic diagnosed it as a bad seat-belt tensioner and confirmed that the part is under warranty by American Honda. The dealership requested the part from American Honda and they have failed to provide the part to the dealership stating that is is not available. They have given us ETAs for the part but it has never arrived. We requested a rental car to drive while waiting for the part but were denied by both American Honda and the dealership. American Honda's response is that the car just should not be driven. We cannot sell the car while this light in on but need to continue to drive the car for work. The air bag light remains on and still will not deploy if an accident were to occur causing a significant safety risk. We have not involved police or insurance representatives or any other outside parties aside from American Honda and the dealership. We spoke with a representative,at American Honda today who again confirmed that they do not have the part, do not have an ETA on the part and will not pay for a safe vehicle to drive. Considering the amount of time that has elapsed, they are clearly in violation of their warranty.

Rodents have chewed through the wiring on my vehicle twice within 7 days. Dealer fix of "rodent-deterrent" tape did not work. All systems are compromised by this occurrence -- emissions, braking, acceleration, lane-keep asist, etc. Using soy-based wiring on vital components is not safe for the consumer.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, several error messages became displayed on the instrument panel, including the brake mitigation system, low speed braking, and cruise control. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer on several occasions however, the dealer failed to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

My steering is becoming very stiff at speeds above 45mph. When making minor adjustments on the highway the steering requires a lot of force and sometimes will slip before actually engaging. This happened after the car reached around 10,000 miles and has been more prevalent during the colder months.
