My 2023 Nissan Rogue with the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine has repeatedly displayed the “Engine Malfunction Power Reduced Service Now” warning, causing reduced engine power and creating a safety risk when accelerating or merging into traffic. We took the vehicle to the dealership to have the ECM reprogrammed (which the recall suggested), but the issue has persisted. According to the Nissan Certified Technician, the vehicle has diagnostic code P210B, and the dealership recommended a valve replacement costing approximately $5,000. Given known engine defects affecting certain Nissan VC-Turbo engines, we are concerned the dealership is addressing the symptoms rather than the underlying problem of a potentially failing engine. We are concerned this could allow a serious engine defect to go unresolved while leaving us responsible for substantial repair costs. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue for potential safety defects and determine whether further recall action is necessary.

Vehicle Mileage: 82,775 Component Affected: Engine / Cooling System / Fuel/Emission System (EGR Cooler) My 2023 Nissan Rogue equipped with the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine suffered a catastrophic internal engine failure, leaving the vehicle completely inoperable and causing a dangerous situation due to severe engine overheating (Diagnostic Trouble Code P1217). A professional inspection and pressure test by a certified technician (Repair Order #38473) revealed that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler completely failed to hold pressure. As a direct result of this internal component failure, coolant drained entirely from the reservoir and rapidly flooded Cylinder 2. The coolant cross-contaminated the engine lubrication system, mixing water into the engine oil and permanently destroying the internal integrity of the long block engine assembly. The vehicle now requires a completely new long block engine, turbocharger, catalytic converter, and EGR cooler. Nissa is currently aware of widespread, premature catastrophic engine failures across this exact 2023 Rogue 1.5L VC-Turbo engine line, having issued a massive engine replacement recall and 10-year/120,000-mile warranty extension in March 2026 (NHTSA Campaign 26V080) for main crankshaft bearing failures. However, Nissan is currently exploiting a technical loophole to deny coverage for my vehicle. Because the root cause of my engine's destruction was an internal EGR cooler pressure failure rather than a crankshaft bearing failure, Nissan claims it is exempt from covering the repair despite the final mechanical damage, safety risk, and engine destruction being completely identical. Nissan should not be permitted to avoid liability for a known, systemic powertrain defect by restricting recall remedies to a singular root cause when adjacent components like the EGR cooler are causing identical, catastrophic engine failures well under their self-declared 120,000-mile engine lifespan. It is identical to what has been happening.

I am reporting repeated loss of engine power and subsequent engine failure involving my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV equipped with the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine. On February 3, 2026, at 151,975 miles, Nissan of Boerne performed recall R25D1 and campaign PA447. Following that service, the vehicle experienced repeated loss of power and limp-mode conditions, creating a safety concern while driving because the vehicle could not accelerate normally. In April 2026, World Car Nissan documented an engine malfunction complaint accompanied by forward and rear collision warning lights. In May–June 2026, at 163,589 miles, Nissan of Boerne confirmed trouble code P2564 and diagnosed a turbocharger wastegate stuck open. The dealership replaced the turbocharger assembly. In September 2026, at 172,431 miles, the vehicle again experienced a severe loss of acceleration. The engine RPM increased when pressing the accelerator, but the vehicle would not accelerate normally. The dealership documented the complaint as loss of power without warning lights and replaced the three-way catalytic converter. In October 2026, Nissan of Boerne diagnosed a blown head gasket, coolant leaking into cylinder 3, overheating, and trouble code P04FA (EGR over-temperature). The dealership recommended replacing the engine long block for $7,166.52. The vehicle is currently inoperable. These problems have been examined by authorized Nissan dealerships, and the service invoices document the diagnoses and repairs. The vehicle's current condition may be available for inspection through the dealership, subject to confirmation. I am concerned about the recurring loss of power, the potential danger of being unable to accelerate in traffic, and whether the vehicle was adequately inspected under applicable VC-Turbo engine safety recalls. Nissan Consumer Affairs advised that the recall had been completed and declined further assistance.

Complete engine failure due to leaky EGR valve at 74k miles. Vehicle overheated suddenly in the middle of busy traffic, needing to stop the vehicle in the middle of the road. Problem has been confirmed by an independent contractor. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer or dealership, due to high cost of diagnosis and car being just out of warranty. There was no warning lamp or symptoms before failure.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. While driving at 45 MPH, the engine experienced reduced power and hesitated while accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer on several occasions, and the throttle body, HVAC air intake and refrigerant, mass airflow, intercooler pipe, battery, idle air control (IAC) valve, rack and pinion, serpentine belt, and pressure sensor were replaced, and the 3-part fuel system was cleaned; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who determined that an unknown part needed to be replaced again. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by email and on the website. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The transmission froze and my car became immovable while driving. Towed it to nissan and they said water has spelled near the shift liver. The cupholders are located right next to the shift lever, and if that’s going to cost the car to freeze while driving, it seems some sort of protection would’ve been a good idea in that area.

My 3 kids were sitting in the car while I was paying for gas. I walked out and they were all crying hysterically. The whole back window just randomly shattered. The car was parked, defrost was not on. I did let my insurance know. I had to pay out of pocket to get a new one. There is a lawsuit with Nissan about this happening to people and they will not take responsibility.

While traveling at approximately 65 mph on interstate vehicle suddenly lost all power and stopped running in heavy rush hour traffic. Only after the failure did a oil warning light came on. Nissan dealership has advised it was total engine failure and Nissan will replace engine under 5yr/60k mileage under warranty. There was no previous noises, warning lights or messages since owning vehicle since 5-19-26. Vehicle is currently at Nissan dealership and is available for inspection.

Since purchasing my car there have been issues from having to have the internal parts of the trunk to varies recalls. Despite my maintaining ongoing maintenance, the engine suddenly has issues. It was seen by a mechanic, Nissan then required me to have it towed to them which I did. Pressure-tested the system; antifreeze was visible in cylinders 2 and 3. When the spark plug was removed, and a borescope was inserted, I visually saw the antifreeze. Suggesting a cracked head gasket. This potentially falls under one of the recalls however, I cannot get information if it was looked into as I requested. I applied for the goodwill assistance program and was denied, and they declined my request to get it in writing or to appeal.

On October 7, 2026, while driving a 2023 Nissan Rogue equipped with a 1.5L 3-cylinder VC-Turbo engine, the vehicle suddenly began jerking and making loud mechanical knocking and rattling noises. Shortly afterward, the engine stalled, completely lost power, and became inoperable while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle had to be towed to a Nissan dealership for inspection. The engine failure occurred suddenly and without sufficient warning, creating a serious safety concern and the potential for a collision. The symptoms appear consistent with reported premature engine bearing and internal component failures associated with Nissan's 1.5L VC-Turbo engines, which have been the subject of federal safety recalls and investigations. Despite the premature and catastrophic nature of the engine failure, Nissan denied the request for an engine replacement, leaving the vehicle inoperable. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this incident to determine whether the engine failure is related to a known manufacturing defect and whether additional corrective action is necessary to protect other drivers from similar sudden engine failures.

2023 Nissan Rogue SV Midnight Edition, 1.5L 3-cylinder VC-Turbo. Bought Nissan Certified Pre-Owned 12/11/2024 at 6,843 miles. Recall 25V-437 (engine bearings, Nissan R25D1) was open on my car and never done before the failure, even though I was at the dealer 1/6/2026 after the remedy came out. On 9/9/2025 at 19,759 miles I told the dealer the car burps, the RPMs drop and it loses power from a stop. They said it was operating as designed. On 7/9/2026 at 29,203 miles I was driving at normal street speed with my mother and my dog in the car. The RPMs surged and the engine ran rough with heavy vibration. I pulled into my parking spot, thick white smoke poured out of the exhaust and a burning wire smell came into the cabin. I got them out. It would not restart. No warning lights at any point. The dealer found coolant in the oil and coolant leaking between the head and block, and replaced the engine, turbo, catalytic converter and 2 sensors under the recall. The new engine kept having problems. 8/12 cylinder 3 misfire before I picked it up. 8/19 check engine light on the freeway. 8/21 limp mode on the street: Engine Malfunction, Power reduced, Service now, and a collision warning message. Code P0303, cylinder 3 injector replaced. Codes set again on the dealer's test drive in heavy traffic and the advisor had to pull over, so all injectors were recalibrated. At least 16 Nissan text alerts and 4 alert emails. 54 days out of service. After that I had a fuel smell in the cabin, loss of power on hills, then engine roughness and a burning rubber smell until I turned it in. Nissan bought it back under the California lemon law on 10/20/2026 at 30,995 miles. Nissan engineers inspected it at the dealer in August. The car now belongs to Nissan, and I do not know what happened to the original engine. Full timeline attached.

Complete engine failure on the highway. The vehicle lost all motive power while driving, could not be restarted, and had to be towed. The failure matches the defect in open NHTSA safety recall 26V-080 (manufacturer R25E2) for 2023–2025 Nissan Rogues with the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine: increased oil temperature that can degrade lubrication and cause bearing seizure, engine damage, and loss of motive power (with rare risk of block breach and oil discharge). The vehicle was towed to an authorized Nissan dealer on September 28, 2026. Nearly one month later the dealer has not completed the diagnosis, has not opened a campaign claim under the still-Incomplete recall, and has not ordered parts. The technician needed to finish the repair order has not been available since the vehicle arrived. The dealer has indicated an engine replacement may take months. The vehicle remains undrivable and is available for inspection. No prior warning lamps or messages were noted before the sudden highway failure. The open safety recall remains Incomplete. The manufacturer has not remedied the defect in a timely manner despite the vehicle being at an authorized dealer with a complete engine failure consistent with the campaign. Safety risk includes sudden loss of power on the highway and inability to restart.

- #11772572October 20, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, POWER TRAIN
I purchased a used 2023 Nissan Rogue on XXX. Within approximately three weeks, I experienced multiple electrical and operational problems. The engine unexpectedly shut off while I was parking, and I had to manually restart the vehicle using the Start button. On a separate occasion, the dashboard/display screen went completely black while I was driving, although the engine continued running. Other problems include doors that do not consistently remain locked, side mirrors that change their adjustments without my input, static and poor sound quality during phone calls through the vehicle's audio system, and phone charging ports that do not function properly. I notified the selling dealership, CarMax in [XXX], on XXX, and returned the vehicle for service on XXX. The service department advised me that the dashboard software had been updated but that the engine shutdown could not be reproduced during a test drive. The cause of the shutdown and other reported problems has not been confirmed. I am concerned about the safety and reliability of this vehicle, particularly the unexpected engine shutdown requiring a manual restart and the dashboard going black while driving. I am requesting that these incidents be documented and investigated as potential vehicle safety defects. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I purchased a 2023 Nissan Rogue on XXX, from Go Indy Autos in [XXX]. On XXX, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and warning/check-engine lights illuminated. Concerned for my safety, I had it towed to Metro Nissan on XXX. I was informed that three recalls were open, and recall-related repairs were performed. I picked up the vehicle on XXX On XXX, the same problem occurred again while driving on the highway. The vehicle lost acceleration and struggled to maintain speed, creating a dangerous situation in traffic. I managed to reach DeFouw Nissan in [XXX], but the service department was closed. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by DeFouw Nissan, where technicians reproduced the problem: the vehicle entered limp mode and would not accelerate properly. Diagnostic code P0196 (engine oil temperature sensor) was documented. DeFouw's findings were consistent with the issues previously addressed at Metro Nissan. Both Nissan dealerships inspected the vehicle, and the problem required additional diagnostic work and repairs authorized under Nissan's warranty. The vehicle remained out of service for approximately three weeks and was not returned to me until XXX. The sudden loss of acceleration at highway speeds placed my life and the safety of other motorists at risk by preventing me from maintaining speed and responding safely to traffic. This occurred twice within days, including once shortly after recall-related repairs, leaving me concerned that the vehicle could fail again while driving. The manufacturer, Nissan, was contacted through Consumer Affairs (Case #XXX). Nissan reviewed the situation but denied my buyback request. Although repairs were completed, the repeated failures and safety risks remain serious concerns. The vehicle and service records are available for inspection upon request. I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the rear hatch glass of my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV. The vehicle was purchased brand-new on January 27, 2024, and currently has around 25,000 miles. The vehicle had been parked and stationary for at least 20 hours when I discovered that the rear hatch glass had spontaneously shattered upon closing the side passenger door. There was no known impact, collision, or other external event that would explain the glass failure. I am concerned that this may indicate a defect in the rear glass, its installation, or an associated component. If this occurred while driving or while my children were present in the car, it could present a significant safety hazard. I am requesting that NHTSA document this incident and evaluate it alongside similar complaints involving the 2023 Nissan Rogue.

Vehicle began overheating out of nowhere on highway fluctuating up and down it happened right as I was getting home, towed in for service the next morning the company has been stonewalling me on the information I’ve asked for . I’ve asked for freeze frame data and the codes so I can know the moment everything occurred but they haven’t released the informative asked of them. Also asked to perform a metal shaving testing for them on the oil pan from the bearing but they haven’t released if it was found or not and gave me a lack of loyalty and it being a used car as reason for denial. I’ve only been thru Nissan dealers since I’ve got the car. But this isn’t as much of a goodwill as it is a warranty issue that known with a this engine and Nissan affairs basically didn’t listen to my complaints about the dealer ship service manager and open a goodwill case instead of looking into if it was more vehicles effected by this same engine issue
