I took the car for 4 recalls it had 2 of which were physical and the other two were software according to them. Took the car back to drop someone off, turned it off and then on; it began losing and breaking on its own at slow rpm’s slamming on the breaks. a minute later after having turned the corner I turned on my hazards and it had continued to randomly happen to the car. It is not consistent it is completely random and I have had a mechanic only inspect it while it happened once because I’ve only been able to have it happen while being inspected out of luck . I’ve gotten several error codes to the car since from p04 misfires. Evap leaks etc. the car was in pitch perfect condition and after that day it has since stopped working properly . I have photos of the mechanics that day even leaving food in the back of my car as if they just relaxed and didn’t do their job as professional as it could’ve have been . They denied anything is wrong with the car and have offered me discounted inspections after claiming nothing was wrong they gave me one free inspection and I haven’t gone back . My engine or censors are messed up. It puts my health and others at safety because it slams on the breaks unknowingly and randomly at low RPMs. The manufacturer has inspected my car and claimed it was okay although they unprofessionally left food and ate breakfast and left trash in the back. (With photo proof) . Last there was NO issues whatsoever with my car until that day. Never had a misfire . Never had a engine light . Never had a popped tire . It all began they DAY I got my car back not even an hour later. I could not return that day because it was near closing time of the dealership and the day after I went they denied it has been tampered. This happened around the beginning of July 1-8th 2023.

The vehicle experienced an engine failure with minimal warning. While driving 35-50 miles per hour, I experienced a loss of power upon acceleration. Within 1 mile of the trouble starting the check engine light came on. I was able to drive less than 5 more miles before the engine completely stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent service center, where I was informed the engine needed to be replaced. It was then towed to my home and is still there, without repairs.

My car currently has 93000 miles. Since I’ve had 76000 miles, I cannot make it to an oil change without my engine almost running out of oil. My maintenance is always done on time, especially considering I can’t even drive 3000 miles (out of my 5000 mile synthetic oil change life) without my oil light coming on and oil below dipstick. I have taken the car in multiple times, performed multiple engine oil consumption tests and even though my engine is burning a whole quart of oil every 1000 miles, they refuse to replace my engine. I even have an extended warranty through Hyundai so I don’t understand why a defective engine under warranty that literally can’t even drive a whole oil change cycle without running out of oil wouldn’t be replaced by the factory. Please help I’m afraid to take long trips because what if the engine runs out of oil?

I was driving at a higher rate of speed 50 MPH in the center of 3 laned road no warning or indicator lights were on in my vehicle when the engine without warning blew and stopped working. Again no check engine lights were on no warnings were given. It shut down and would no longer accelerate or drive. We almost caused several accidents as this was a very busy roadway.

My name is [XXX] , and I am the frustrated owner of a 2023 Hyundai Sonata SEL. For context, I am a [XXX] woman who had never experienced the frightening event of a “brand new” car breaking down—until now. I am still in shock and trembling from the experience I had with my “new” 2023 Hyundai Sonata on the morning of [XXX]. At 9:30 a.m., I was driving on [XXX] . I was driving the speed limit (55 mph) and cruising along when, all of a sudden, as I went to accelerate, my vehicle instead began decelerating rapidly. I pressed the gas pedal, thinking I might have let up too much or accidentally had my foot on the brake. However, pressing the gas only caused the RPM to spike, with no change in my speed. I had to act quickly, paying close attention to the surrounding traffic as my car slowed down. Thankfully, I managed to maneuver from the far-left lane to the shoulder of the highway. My speed had dropped to around 30 mph and was decreasing. Trying to safely navigate a slowing vehicle on a highway filled with traffic is an adrenaline rush I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I was in a state of severe panic. As I steered the car onto the shoulder, I noticed it was shaking and struggling to move forward. White smoke was also coming from the exhaust. Once safely stopped, I put the car in park and turned off the engine to let it cool down. After a few minutes, I restarted it and noticed the engine, oil, and battery indicators were all illuminated on the dashboard. My first thought was a battery issue, but the car was still able to turn on. However, the engine did not start. A notification appeared, stating the car was not in a condition to be driven. After receiving the car back from the Hyundai Dealer I was notified that the issue was due to fuel injectors failing. I purchased this vehicle brand new. It is still under factory warranty. It has approximately 14k miles on it. I have followed all recommended maintenance procedures. During a routine maintenance appointment at the dealership (Vancouver Hyundai 6802 NE 40th Street, Vancouver WA 98661) they identified a catastrophic engine failure due to internal component deterioration and the engine needs to be replaced. They have had my vehicle in their possession since [XXX] of this year for a total of 134 days. I have a case number at Hyundai # [XXX]. They have not been helpful in providing any information and as of now, I do not know when they even expect to receive a new engine. We were told from Tulsa Hyundai that our car was involved in a massive recall due to engine failure and that the warranty had been extended to 150,000 miles on Theta engines. They told us we had to follow the process in order to have a claim submitted to Hyundai corporate. They required us to pay for a valve gasket replacement and a valve cover gasket ($1000), then to take the car home and drive for 1000 miles and then bring it back in. We brought it back in and were required to pay for a combustion cleaning (around $800) and then take it home and drive it for 1000 miles. We brought it back in and they performed the oil consumption test. They then submitted the claim to Hyundai and we heard back the next day (9/18/2024) that they were denying they claim due to it being an issue with piston rings instead of rod bearing failure. I called Hyundai and they basically said there was nothing else they would do. They told us we could be reimbursed for the $1800 we had to spend to go through that process. Those fees were incurred were not necessary, especially when Hyundai is not going to replace the engine. Hyundai markets on their dealer websites, "engines for life", yet they will do nothing to replace our engine that is in failure.

- #11615185September 18, 2024VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
The vehicle speedometer is occasionally 5mph off. When I first get into the vehicle after it’s been sitting for a while and drive around, the speedometer works perfectly. If I shut the vehicle off while getting gas, running an errand or something similar that involves the vehicle sitting for a semi-short period of time, the speedometer will be 5mph off when driving. I initially detected this issue be noticing that my speedometer was different from the speed posted on a GPS based speedometer on my phone, who’s speed exactly matched those road side speed measuring signs found on the highway, but both of those measuring devices differed from my vehicles speedometer. I brought my vehicle into my local Hyundai dealership who verified the problem exists, but mentioned that this was a software issue which needs to be corrected my Hyundai Corporate. I contacted Hyundai Corporate at the number provided to my by the dealership, and was essentially told that there is nothing they are willing to do to fix the issue.

I have been having transmission issues the whole time I've had the car. There is a delay upon take off, and it bogs down instead of downshifting. I was driving my son to school and made a left turn. It started to go but then delayed for 10 seconds before suddenly taking off. If the on coming traffic had been closer, they would've hit us. The dealer has reproduced the problem but can't get enough information for the tech line to approve a new transmission even though the dealership has repeatedly said that is what it needs. I've never had a warning light on it. it's been in the shop for it this time since 7/26/24.

While on the highway vehicle started shaking violently, flashing engine light then service hybrid system along with every light on the dash! Car still running poorly, stiff steering very hard to slow down to get to safety! By the time I was able to pull over the engine was knocking and a burning smell was coming from the engine compartment. I popped the hood shut the car off , the exhaust manifold and converter(in one together) was so hot it was glowing! I’m thankful I was able to get to safety without it catching fire because it was on its way there! I called for a tow and sent it to the dealer where Hyundai is replacing the engine.

I believe this is the same issue as the Hyundai recall #170 (activation of the engine management system's brake pedal override feature). While pressing the accelerator, my car will stop accelerating until I let off the gas pedal and then press it again. This is an intermittent issue and unrelated to any fuel delivery system. I confirmed it was a brake pedal issue because my brake lights would not turn off and I could shift out of Park WITHOUT my foot being on the brake pedal. I feel like this could be a pretty big issue for properly signally drivers behind me as well as when I’m trying to drive in heavy or speedy traffic, e.g., merging onto or within interstate traffic.

Fractured windshield from rock strike. Not Hyundai responsiblity. 2 1/2 feet from mirror thru driver view. ISSUE IS: Safelite does not have aftermarket glass. Car is 5 months old. Hyundai says they have zero replacement glass in United States. I can order ($1500), and wait appx 2-3 months. It is illegal both in CA where I reside and federally to drive with fractured windshield. How is it that auto manufacturers are able to not keep safety items reasonably in stock? Covid is long over, I’m tired of hearing “supply chain” excuse. A brief online review shows Kia/Hyundai has had windscreen issues ongoing for years. I’m not even certain that all of my mirror resident safety features are working properly.

I brought my car in for electronic update recall. No issues before service. After service, dealer tells me that my car in inoperable and the 12v Aux battery needs to be replaced. The battery was swollen. There were no indication before bringing the car in for recall that there was a battery issue. Possible fire hazard.
