ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD IN LATE FEB 2024. AT THE SAME TIME, THERE WAS A NOTED FLUID LEAK ON MY PARKING SKIRT SO I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED DRIVING IT. ON [XXX] I HAD CAR TOWED TO MIKE'S AUTOMATIVE SERVICE STATION IN SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. HE REMEDIED THE ENGINE ISSUE WITH 'LEAK STOP'. ON [XXX], I WAS TRAVELING AN [XXX] FROM MILWAUKEE TO OSHKOSH. AROUND HALF WAY, THE ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING, THE OIL LIGHT WAS ON AND THE CAR LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I ENGAGED MY HAZARD LIGHTS GIVEN I WAS IN HIGH TRAFFIC AT THAT TIME AND 'LIMPED' CAR TO THE NEARST GAS STATION, TO AVOID BEING STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY LOCATION, RICHFIELD SERVICE CENTER-RICHFIELD WI. BOTH THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER AND THE SERVICE STATION REP, SEAN, ADVISED THIS OIL-LEAKING ENGINE BUSINESS WAS A WIDESPREAD AND WELL-KNOWN MANUFACTURER DEFECT FOR THIS VEHICLE'S MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. THEY PERFORMED A BRIEF DIAGNOSTIC REVIEW AND ADVISED THE ENGINE WOULD NEED FULL REPLACEMENT TO CONTINUE DRIVING. I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO HYUNDAI'S CUSTOMER SERVICE ONLINE PORTAL THIS DAY, TOO AND HAVE REQUESTED THEY REPLACE THE ENGINE, GIVEN THE MILEAGE HAS NOT EVEN REACHED 77,000 MILES. I FOUND NO ACTIVE RECALL OR WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE BUT CAN PROVE I AM THE SECOND OWNER, HAVING INHERITED IT FROM THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER, THE LATE [XXX] IN 2016/2017 (UNSURE EXACT DATE). THE VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION AT THIS TIME. I FELT TRAUMATIZED BY THIS EVENT, PRAYING NOT TO BE RUN OVER ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE THE CAR MOVED AT A SNAIL'S PACE AND FEELING TERRIBLY UNSAFE IN PUSHING THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION. I FELT EVERYONE AROUND ME WAS IN DANGER OF NOT SEEING ME IN TIME TO STOP OR AVOID COLLISION WITH ME. NO OFFICIAL INSPECTION HAS BEEN COMPLETED BY MANUFACTURER, POLICE, INSURANCE OR ANYONE BESIDES THE MECHANICS AT THE RICHFIELD SERVICE CENTER LOCATIO IN RICHFIELD WISCONSIN, ON [XXX]. In December, 2019 I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata for my son that had around 32K miles. Maintenance records looked good, and I continued to keep up with the maintenance on this vehicle. Around 64K miles, I was notified after an oil change the vehicle was low on oil and a gasket needed replaced. I took the Sonata to another place to get the oil changed and for a 2nd opinion. The conclusion of the 2nd opinion was there was internal pressure causing excessive blow by. That even if I replaced the valve cover gasket, the pressure would build up. Ultimately, we determined the vehicle is consuming/burning oil. Columbia Hyundai said there wasn’t anything they could do because my vehicle was out of warranty. My issue was and continues to be Hyundai will not do anything about the oil consumption issue. I am being told the engine will fail and maybe then if a rod is thrown will they replace the engine. I am putting a 1 to 1.5 quarts of oil in this vehicle every two weeks. My son still drives this vehicle and he is in college. Hyundai wants my son to drive this vehicle until the engine fails until they will even consider doing anything about it? I don’t even trust this vehicle to take on long trips. It has been a problem trying to keep up with this issue. When the engine fails (Hyundai said it will) while my son is driving this vehicle, I pray he is not on a dark country road, or on the expressway. Hyundai's negligence and their willingness to ignore this issue is irresponsible. I can tell you I will not be purchasing anymore Hyundai’s. They do not take ownership of this issue. Regardless if I am not the original owner, stand behind your vehicles. There has been a class action lawsuit filed against Hyundai for this same problem. I am asking Hyundai to do the right thing. I have all my maintenance records. Thanks for your time, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The blind spot detection system needs alignment. When the blind spot detection fails it disables traction control and anti-lock brakes. The parking sensor and backup sensors should have nothing to do with the antilogue brakes or traction control. Since these items are disabled traction does not exist and anti-lock brakes are ineffective.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata that I purchased in 2021. The engine began "knocking" at 142,000 miles so I took it to dealership as it looked to be the same issue many of the Hyundais have been experiencing. I was then informed my claim was denied because a Service Campain from 2018 had not been performed. This is a known issue with these vehicles but my claim was denied over something outside of my control.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated when starting the vehicle, the vehicle experienced a hard start and shuddered. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where washer fluid was poured into the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the oil was 2 quarts low, and the mileage was below the next recommended oil change. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an unknown second dealer, where the contact was informed that no signs of oil leak and smoke were found during the inspection. The dealer determined that oil could be leaking in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Sonata sport . I make payments on this vehicle. I have only had this vehicle since [XXX] it just hit 100,000 miles. I was on my way to work and the check engine light came on.. I heard a ticking and knocking sound. Then the car shut off. A few mechanics have looked at the car.. I was told about the defects from shaving not being properly cleaned out.. This has never happened before and this is my only transportation. It’s currently at the Hyundai dealership here in Fredericksburg Virginia. But they of course are telling me it will take up 4 to 6 weeks before even doing an engine inspection on the vehicle and they can’t provide me with a rental. It’s obvious that this is an engine malfunction. I would like to be treated fair in this situation and simply have the engine replaced along with any other vehicle updates or at least another vehicle. - #11578253March 19, 2024FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start, and the low fuel light was illuminated. The contact stated that the alternator was replaced prior to the failure. The vehicle was refueled by a tow truck driver. The contact stated that after several days, the vehicle drove as needed; however, the failure reoccurred at a drive-thru. The vehicle was towed to a nearby hotel. The low fuel warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was purchased. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred a week later. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH, there was fuel leaking out of the fuel pump gasket. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the fuel pump was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

We were part of the Hyundai Theta claim group. Our car did stop in traffic, luckily my husband was alone, and no one was hurt. It was towed to the dealer. This was October2023. Dealer gave a list of fixes & stated it had nothing to do with theta. We had all recommended maintenance done; as we always do. Roughly 2 months later, Dec., with a full car, it did it again, at a stoplight. We are lucky to be alive. We had it towed to our mechanic. I contacted the Theta claims line. Our mechanic stated oil was still in the filter, but the pistons had blown clear through the engine, which he still has. Hyundai contacted him. He sent pictures. Hyundai denied my claim for timely filing. I have called weekly, followed every instruction. Now they want me to mail a letter. I am a disabled veteran. Look how many recalls they have. They don't mind recalling. They will just deny people. Please help.

The wind guard for the panoramic sunroof of my 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid broke & flew almost all the way off while driving down [XXX] in the Cleveland area. I was able to grab the end before it broke off completely and flew into traffic behind me. There was no warning prior to detachment. Hyundai insists this part failure is not part of a prior recall for this exact same product failure on this make & model and therefore will not cover. Their suggested solution is glue. I changed my oil on Saturday and it now has no oil. The engine light started flashing and my engine seized up. Now it does not run at all. It turns on halfway where the dashboard turns on but the motor/engine does not turn. It appears to be white smoke coming out of the car after trying to turn it back on.

Car smells like it’s burning, been told it’s oil. Dealership after seeing leakage on the engine replaced the valve gasket. Car still smells like it’s burning and apparently there is no leaking. I went to the same dealership to inform them and they recommended replacing a hose but not a guarantee it will fix the overall problem which is smelling of burning. I’m concerned! I’m 37weeks pregnant and don’t want to inhale burning or any other chemicals pre and post postpartum with a newborn

Vehicle was left in care of dealership service department after critical failure of engine. Determined that recall 162 was responsible and Hyundai would afford the repair. Vehicle at dealership for 5 months until repair could be scheduled. Repair complete, dealership advised us that the airbag light was illuminated. Technician performed "courtesy" diagnostic to read codes. Codes B1329 and B1331; front impact sensor and passenger communication error. Neither code is historic for the vehicle and only displayed after service from dealership.
