Multiple times since purchasing the vehicle, the engine fails to restart after the automatic idle stop feature engages at red lights or stop signs. When I release the brake to resume driving, the vehicle attempts to restart but makes a struggling or grinding noise and then stalls completely, similar to a dead battery. The vehicle becomes unresponsive and does not restart immediately. I am forced to turn the car off and attempt to restart it multiple times, often waiting several minutes before the engine turns back on. This has occurred in traffic, creating a safety hazard due to vehicles behind me and my inability to move the car. The issue appears to be related to the automatic idle stop/start system and may involve the starter or battery failing to properly restart the engine.

- #11731221April 14, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
On April 13, 2026, I brought my 2019 Honda Odyssey to a Honda dealership in Chicago, IL for a dealer-initiated recall service. The dealer contacted me and asked me to come in. Before the recall service, the vehicle had zero warning lights, zero error codes, and was operating completely normally. Immediately after the recall service was completed, the following warning lights appeared on the dashboard: Brake System warning, Hill Start Assist Problem, VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) warning, and additional stability/steering system warnings. None of these warnings existed before the service. I returned to the dealership the same day. The service team cleared all error codes. However, within minutes of driving off the lot, all warning lights reappeared. This confirms the issue is persistent and not a one-time post-update self-check. I returned a second time. The service manager stated the warnings were not caused by the recall service and refused to investigate further. The dealer quoted $800 for diagnostic work. I also contacted American Honda by phone and was told they could not intervene. With the Brake System and VSA warnings active, the anti-lock braking system and vehicle stability control may not be functioning properly. This puts me and other drivers at risk, especially in emergency braking situations and on slippery roads. This pattern of multiple safety warnings appearing immediately after recall service on 2019 Honda Odysseys has been reported by other owners. The vehicle and its warning lights are available for inspection upon request.

The right side airbags deployed without any damage or accident occurring to the vehicle. The safety of the driver and backseat passenger was put at risk because the airbags deployed without any warning and completely disabled the vehicle forcing us to the side of the road and trapping the backseat passenger who was in a wheelchair. The vehicle has been assessed by police and reported there was no damage done to the vehicle. The dealership has evaluated and reported there was no reason the airbags should have deployed. An SRS light would come on frequently. Dealership said it was a wiring issue but no permanent fix was ever made or recommended.

Engine Shutoff/Idle Stop Failure: The vehicle fails to restart after the automatic idle stop engages in traffic, requiring a manual restart. Electrical System Malfunctions: car dying at stoplights, loss of power, and, in some cases had to restart in "limp mode" where the vehicle is restricted to 1st gear, not very safe on major highways. Reported this to Honda during service on 3-16-26, they didn’t find anything? Has happened 7 times since it was serviced.

- #11731069April 14, 2026ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY
The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, the Auto START/STOP feature engaged, causing the vehicle to idle, the transmission shifted to park(P), and the engine failed to restart independently, and the vehicle turned off unexpectedly. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted. Additionally, the vehicle made a clanking sound while driving over a bump or while making a turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that the battery had low voltage, and the contact was advised to deactivate the Auto START/STOP feature. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

The outside mirrors had a recall for potential detachment. My driver's side mirror detaches sometimes even after the replacement. When I contacted Honda over this issue, they told me that they can't take my complaint and I should go back to the dealer which replaced it.

My car issues a emissions systems problem, upon bringing it to the dealer it was identified that the fuel injector system failed. This is a known issue with 2019 Honda Odysseys. Upon running the VIN on my vehicle, it was found it does not qualify under the extended warranty even though this is a known issue.

In the afternoon hours of [XXX]; my wife, 2 children and I were traveling away from Pageland, SC on [XXX] . My wife was driving the vehicle and hit a pothole on right side of our lane. This caused both driver and passenger side curtain airbags to deploy. Upon exiting the vehicle no visible damage was found other than a leaky passenger side front tire. This incident jeopardized the safety of everyone in our vehicle due to the powder or smoke that comes out causing a visual obstruction of the road, and the sudden unexpected deployment that scared my wife at the exit of a curve. Thankfully, she kept control of the vehicle and did not collide or wreck in to anything. I still called for the North Carolina Highway Patrol due to the incident that happened. The Trooper explained to us that he could not do a wreck report because, there was no collision. He did however do something different and provided us with a copy of it. Due to this, the insurance company totaled the vehicle and forced us to find a different vehicle. I am unsure if this vehicle was inspected afterwards by anyone other than the insurance company. Prior to this incident there were no warning lights or messages stating there was a problem. After the incident, several messages popped on the screen referencing several safety systems on the vehicle and the tire pressure system on the passenger side front tire. This is the fifth time the auto engine shutoff failed to restart after I stopped my car at a stoplight or traffic. This results in potential rear ended accident as one time it stopped in the middle of traffic on the freeway, another time the car behind me at a right turn light that turned from red to green almost rear ended me. No, I brought the car to Honda dealership and they said no problems. But this auto engine shutoff that failed to restart has occurred fifth times. Vehicle has been inspected by dealer and unable to reproduce because they didn’t drive it and step on the brake and have it stopped in middle of traffic. There was an engine warning light that occurred twice but disappeared after 1-2 days before my scheduled dealership appointment. I mention this to dealer. The failure happens suddenly without warning once I step on brake without turning off the auto engine shutoff which I sometimes forget because it is every single time I turn the engine off the auto shutoff would reset. I called Honda America back in January 2026 when I had this problem. I changed my car battery already and so it is not a car battery issue.

Since January 15, 2026, our Honda Odyssey has experienced a persistent and unresolved infotainment system failure affecting critical functions, including the rear-view camera. The issue has been reported across three separate service visits (January 15, March 6, and March 26, 2026), during which attempted repairs—including wiring adjustments, battery replacement, and amplifier replacement—failed to resolve the malfunction. Despite escalating to a regional Honda engineer and multiple dealership interventions, the system remains inoperable, and the defect continues to immediately reoccur after each repair attempt. As of April 12, 2026, the vehicle’s infotainment system and rear-view camera are completely non-functional. The issue has persisted for 87 days, resulting in loss of use of key vehicle functions and raising significant safety concerns due to the inoperability of the federally mandated rearview camera (FMVSS 111). The repeated unsuccessful repair attempts and extended delay have led to the conclusion that the vehicle is currently unsafe to operate and has not been restored to a usable condition within a reasonable timeframe.

In May 2025, the front-facing windshield-mounted monocular multi-purpose camera unit abruptly failed in our 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite. The vehicle had ~53,000 miles on the odometer at the time. This resulted in essentially all of the warning lights showing/cycling on the dashboard display and total failure of the safety features dependent on this camera system (adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, etc). The unit had to be completely replaced and calibrated by my local Honda dealer.

My van seems to struggle when traveling longer than 80 miles. I stopped on a trip at a rest stop and it would not restart. I had to get jumped and I purchased a new battery. I took my van into Honda and both batteries tested fine. No code is being produced though the dealership was able to replicate the issue once. After longer trips while using the air conditioner also have an issue with the auto/stop start not reengaging after being at a stop light. The dealership told me nothing is wrong a battery terminal was loose after they kept it for a week which I do not believe.

All of this has been diagnosed and confirmed by Richfield-Bloomington Honda. It is a catostrophic failure of the motor. Cylinder 6 is misfiring. They are recommending a full motor replacement. Last year, I had the piston ring issue on this car and the dealership had to rebuild the motor. The van has about 125,000 miles on it and is good service, including the repaired motor. We are the single owners of the vehicle. After this happened, Honda Corporation was notified, a case was open by both the Richfield Honda Dealership where we purchased our vehicle and by our family. Both were denied. This was a huge safety issue. I was driving home and the check engine light started blinking and the car started shaking. I pulled up to the nearest mechanic (4 miles). They recommended towing it the 200 miles to where I had engine work done the previous year. I was STRANDED in Iowa during this and at the goodwill of some local helpful folks. Luckily, I did not have my kids and I did have cell phone reception where the light went off. This same motor has had two HUGE, vehicle-totaling issues in the last two years.

- #11730501April 10, 2026POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
After being on idle on a stop light, when releasing the brake to go, warning on dash says "Collision Mitigation Warning" when nothing hit the car and I'm there's enough distance with the car in front and behind. The severity has increased now, after being idle, when releasing the brake, it now completely shuts off, dash says "Shift to Park", and can't go, unless I push the ignition button. Took it 3x for the same errors on dash, Honda said the 1st time it was low battery, battery was running on low juice and didnt have power to come back from idle, they changed the battery. Now they say they need to replace the starter after few thou$and$. I see online this happening to others too. I fear the car behind me, may rear end me, because I can't go, green light is on, but I can't move as I'm re-starting the vehicle after being on idle. Honda says my VIN is not part of the bad batch. It's happening more frequently and Honda said they were able to replicate.
