The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 60 MPH, the engine seized, nearly causing a crash. The driver was able to veer to the side of the road. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the upper part of the engine was previously rebuilt, and that the current failure was related to the lower part of the engine. The dealer informed the contact that there was a cost for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered a discount towards the repair. The dealer later informed the contact that the manufacturer would partially cover the repair cost. The vehicle was not repaired. - #11653442April 8, 2025SERVICE BRAKES
I was slowing down in a parking lot to park. I applied the brake and the pedal was very stiff and the vehicle wound not stop. I finally stood on the pedal and it acted as though the antilock activated and started shuttering. It finally stopped without damage. A warning of service brake assist displayed on the dash. This began to happen about 3 months ago intermittently, but now is a more frequent action. I have not taken it to the dealer and thought of replacing the brake vacuum pump but don't know what to do. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day! [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My tailgate will randomly open on its own. I’ve had several instances( 5 or 6 times so far) when I’ve had open on its own. Only once so far when i was driving. Luckily, i was on my private road without anything in my bed that could fall out. I often carry mountain bikes over the tailgate which could pose a serious danger if the tailgate were to open when driving. Also earlier this evening when the tailgate came down on its own while driving, when I got to my destination, I was unable to open the tailgate at all from outside the vehicle. It is apparent the button to release the switch is malfunctioning. I was able to get it to open by using release button inside the vehicle.

Turned onto highway. Got up to about 60 miles per hour. After a couple minutes the truck lost all power. Was pressing gas and noticed speed declining. Looked at dash and noticed rpm decreasing. All lights were off in the dash. I let the truck coast to the edge of the highway. Attempted to jump start and replace battery and nothing happened. Had it towed to a mechanic who said the motor was seized up.

Driving on highway at approximately 70 mph and the engine completely cut off without warning. Error message on dash said put car in neutral and press the start button. After safely pulling over, the vehicle was never able to start or even crank. Towed back to the dealership. Catastrophic engine failure according to the dealership. Vehicle has the 6.2 V8 engine with known issues by GMC apparently. Only 32k miles and under warranty but dealership reports that replacement engines are on back order and they have not been able to source one.

The electronic tailgate randomly opens on it's own/fails and opens when it has not been pushed to open. The vehicle is available for inspection. The tailgate opens randomly and can be unknown that it is open. No warning of it at all. It has happened multiple times, the most recent being today 4/7/2025. I know that a recall has happened with other models for this exact same issue.

My wife and I were traveling westbound on [XXX] just outside of Durkee Oregon, when while going up a hill with Cruse set to 72, the truck began to slow down drastically. When I looked down I was then going 60 and showing down fast. I was able to get to the side of the road and then the truck stopped, it shut off. At that point the truck has not be back on. It would not turn on and Onstar reported that there is an issue with the Engine and transmission. No warning lights came on until we stopped. Then the Engine light was on and the truck said that it was overheating but the oil temps were normal. I feel lucky that there was not much traffic. My wife and I were on the side of the road for 2 hours at dusk and in the dark with 65+ MPH traffic zooming by. Also had a impossible time tracking down a rental call just to continue to my wife's grandmother's funeral service. I just talked with the dealer and they will not have a diagnoses for me until late tomorrow. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

As I was driving down the feeder road of a major highway, the light (press brake to start engine) came on. I was traveling around 55 miles per hour. I pressed the brake and pressed the start button but nothing happened. At this point I was coasting as the engine had died. The radio and electrical system were fully operational. I tried restarting the engine several times while coasting along the busy feeder road. I finally pulled into the right side lane (there was no shoulder) and applied the brakes. Once fully stopped, I was not able to start the engine. I called my GMC dealer for the name of a tow truck. The tow was able to pick up my truck about 45 minutes later. I am still waiting on a new engine from GMC with no time update from my dealer. This incident happened on 03/03/2025.

Truck has 30,000 miles on it. Truck has been in dealer for a new torque converter which they did a fine job. Now it is in for engine problems. They said I need a ew engine and on backorder. This is the Sierra Denali Ultimate and did not expect this from such an expensive truck. I was given a loaner car.

Driving my vehicle in the mountains pulling a 16000 lb 5th wheel trailer, the engine goes into Reduced Engine Power due to a Turbo Vane Position sensor / Turbo Over Boost or Under Boost fault. This has happened 4 times in the last 3 months and has nearly caused an accident following each occurrence. The vehicle is a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD with the 6.6L LML Duramax Diesel engine with 75000 miles. I believe the Reduced Engine Power protection is far to abrupt in the loss of Engine Power to safely move the vehicle out of the flow of traffic. During each occurrence I was in the left lane of a 2 lane expressway attempting to pass a much slower vehicle going up a 5-8% grade and was unable to complete my pass due to the loss in propulsion which nearly caused an accident.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced a loss of motive power. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to restart the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 55 MPH and pulling an unloaded trailer, the vehicle suddenly stalled. A message advising the contact to shift to neutral(N) and to attempt to start the vehicle was displayed; however, the vehicle failed to restart as intended. The contact was still able to use the power brakes and the power steering, which allowed the contact to pull over in a safe area. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the presence of copper filings in the oil had caused the engine to run roughly. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. Additionally, the average waiting period for an engine was approximately 6 months. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 33,000.

This incident happened without any warning at all on [XXX]. while driving 45mph on county road, the engine seemed to not be firing on all cylinders. Loss of power was immediate. accompanied by a rhythmic nocking that was felt and heard. I pulled off and called a tow truck. The engine is a 5.3 liter v8. At Pete Moore Chevrolet they said it was a failure of the number 8 cylinder valve lifters. that all lifters need replaced along with the camshaft due to scarring. Found through research that this is a frequent problem with engines 2014-2021. See - [XXX] , et al, vs General Motors LLC. (brought by Berger Montague) filed in the US District court of Eastern Michigan. Alleging defective valve lifters causing near or catastrophic engine failure. NHTSA has 39 active cases as well. Contacted GM Customer Satisfaction Program 3/27/25. Case #[XXX]. Goal to see with their prior knowledge of this issue could they help repair or replace the engine.
