Daily the automatic transmission will erratically and forcefully downshift at highway speed. When changing Driving Modes the transmission display on the dash has numbers disappear and the transmission downshifts with great force which has lead to injuries. After sitting for more than a few hours the transmission will not go into reverse at first but will then violently shift into reverse after several minutes. These issues began not long after we purchased this vehicle new. The service manager at the dealership the vehicle was purchased from when I told him about these problems told me that I don’t understand how a 10 speed transmission works. Sometimes the driver’s seatbelt will not buckle.

My car has a very scary safety recall. The important notice that I received states that Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to provide you with vehicle pickup and delivery, a rental vehicle or other alternate transportation all for FREE. I live in a very large city and can't find one dealership that says they buy into this free service. Not even the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. I do not have transportation to drop my vehicle and need this free service that is offered. I have contacted FORD with no response or help in finding a dealership that complies with their offer.

Rear cabin lights do not come on when doors are opened. When manually turned on, at times, rear cabin lights will turn on and not be able to be turned off. This created a hazard while driving at night/early morning. We had to cover interior lighting to be able to drive safely. I feel this is a product issue. Dealer said it’s normal working order.

On 2/20/23 my spouse was driving northbound around 9:30 am. When she heard what she describes as a gun shot. She immediately called me and I told her to pull over to the closest and safest spot. She explained that it sounded like the glass sunroof exploded. She climbed up to find that was the case. There was a huge gaping hole right in the center of the sunroof. We immediately took the 2022 Expedition to a Ford dealership close by. The dealership stated that Ford has not issued a bulletin or recall and because of that could not cover the repair under warranty. They stated that the damage indicates that an object hit the glass. I feel that this could not be correct since the glass is facing outward and the manner of which the glass shattered. Further I searched the internet and found that there have been several others dealing with the same issue. I came here hoping that by submitting this complaint Ford owns up to the issues that their consumers are having. - #11507092February 13, 2023VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
The contact owns a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while the cruise control was engaged at approximately 86 MPH, the RPM increased and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated; however, the contact’s husband was able to disengage cruise control to slow down. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician determined that the floormats had jammed the accelerator pedal however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated that on a separate occasion while the cruise control was engaged at approximately 84 MPH, the RPM increased rapidly and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated at high speeds however, the contact’s husband attempted to disengage cruise control, but the cruise control failed to disengage. As a result of the failure, the contact’s husband had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact’s husband was able to navigate off the road then turned off and restarted the vehicle. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the residence and was then towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that an unknown sensor and the battery was faulty however, the actual cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to tow the vehicle to another dealer. The contact was provided a case number, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

Rented the vehicle from Action Car Rental in Orlando FL. on Nov 7, 2022. The following evening we noticed some drips coming from the reading light assembly on the roof between the driver and passenger seats (there is no sunroof). We contacted the facility and left messages - no return calls - we contacted the parent company NU Car Rental and did not get anyone on the phone after calling back multiple times. There was a hurricane/tropical storm approaching between 11/9 am-11/10 am and when I finally got ahold of someone during the storm shutdowns; I then notified them of the water intrusion. They said I can return the vehicle to the security guard after the storm passes but cannot guarantee they will have a replacement car for me and to rent elsewhere if I had to. They would note the account for a refund. I was on vacation in Orlando until 11/14, therefore I had to get another rental elsewhere. The afternoon of 11/10 when my husband got into the car with my son they realized tons of water was on the front floorboards. The night before and when we returned the car we got in the SUV to drive we heard water swishing in the body of the car (this was after the storm - we didn't drive during the hurricane alerts). Upon acceleration the water swished from the front to back and could be heard on both sides of the car then deceleration the reverse; water swished from the back to front. When we returned the car to the security guard around 5:55a he said it would be inspected by [XXX] the manager. The manager did not inspect the car until it was marked as returned at 6:20a. He stated on the notes the car was in good condition and listed incorrect mileage driven. Numerous attempts were made to get a refund due to the issues and safety concerns - failed attempts until I got an investigative reporter involved. Then my CC reversed their denial of the dispute and rtnd the money. But we discovered the car had a major accident in Canada and also had multiple recalls open. I purchased this 2021 Ford Expedition brand new from Ford of Kirkland in WA and discover there's a hard shift or pause when downshifting especially on an uphill. Often time it made a loud metal snapping sound from under the hood when that happened. I was driving on the freeway one afternoon the vehicle jolted and paused and doesn't engage for about 2-3 seconds causing the vehicle behind me to honk. It finally re-engaged after making the loud metal snapping sound. This vehicle had been in service 3 times for the same complaints but still not fixed and discovered that other people with the same Ford vehicle had the same complaints as me

We just purchased this vehicle and started to notice a hard down shift when slowing down from 6th gear. I drove it Saturday January 21st and when I shifted the vehicle into reverse to back into a parking space it threw the transmission into a fault and had no reverse. Still drove forward. Took the vehicle in for service on 1/25/23. They ordered parts to fix the harsh shift. No comment on the reverse issue. Picked up vehicle evening of 1/25/23. Drove from dealership to gas station close to home, about 15 miles. Shut vehicle off to fuel. When I restarted the vehicle it kept pushing forward against trans pawl and then rolling back repeatedly. After it did this 10 times or so I put the vehicle in Nuetral and it proceeded to drive forward for 20-30 feet uphill. After 20-30 feet of driving forward the wrench light turned on and the vehicle stopped driving forward and rolled backwards down the hill as it should have. After this the vehicle had forward gears but no reverse gears. Wrench light and CEL light both illuminated when driving home from gas station. Will have dealership tow back 1/26/23 due to safety issue of vehicle driving forward while not in gear.

Front differential failed. I was driving to the mountains and when I reached snow level it was about 38 degrees F and I slowed to less than 20 mph and switched to 4A. Within a few moments I heard and felt a grinding sound from the front. I have used 4WD several times over the year or so I've had the vehicle and have never heard this noise before. I thought it was the hubs not engaging completely and so I switched it back to 2wd and while the noise was less it continued. I switched back to 4wd and I confirmed that 4wd was working but the noise persisted. I bought this vehicle specfically for its 4wd and my family's life depends on it working when we are up in the Sierras where it snows 2-3 inches per hour. When we returned I immediately took the vehicle to the dealer who informed me that it was the front differential that failed and parts are on back order. I am still waiting two weeks later. They said this is not common but why are parts on back order if it is not so common?

The contact owns a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V346000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled but the parts were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced the failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

My intake manifold has been experiencing corrosion. I took it to the dealership for inspection. They said they couldn't determine what was causing it but confirmed it was a process of corrosion. After my own investigation, I have realized there is a design flaw in the gutter area where the bottom of the windshield meets the hood. When it rains or when I get a car wash, the fluid/water is channeled toward the center of the windshield and drains onto the intake manifold and other various surrounding engine parts underneath the hood. I have never seen this happen in other cars. It's a bad design that will eventually corrode the engine. Furthermore, it may be affecting some electrical components under the hood near the intake manifold. This is bad. Please look at the design on the 2021 Ford Expedition XLT. Not sure if this is how they have designed it on other model years, etc. It's a real problem that will cause some serious problems of the engine down the road.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission slams down into gear from 9th to 8th gear. It also slams in stop and go traffic from 4-5, 5-6. It is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The transmission jerks hard enough to move you in your seat and could cause accidental breaking or acceleration. In stop and go traffic it could cause you to rear-end someone because it lags shifting. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? It has been back to the dealer 4 times for this issue. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there are not warning messages. It has done this since 17,000 miles.

- #11497170December 13, 2022FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I have just found out that my pre-collision assist system has never worked in my vehicle since the day I purchased it brand new from the Ford dealership. My vehicle is 1 1/2 years old now and I never knew I had this function. Recently, I got a chip in the center of my windshield and I got it fixed. I asked how much a new windshield was and I was told a price and to make sure I get OEM glass and to have the camera in the front where the rearview mirror is calibrated correctly so the pre-collision assist will work correctly. I was somewhat confused and was like ok. I searched for the settings in my vehicle and sure enough there is a pre-collision setting which has been ON since who knows when because I never touched that setting before. Well, it has never worked because I have had countless encounters with vehicles and pedestrians cutting me off right in front of me while in operation. This is not good. And I read that 2020 Ford Expeditions have been recalled because of this. I believe it's happening to 2021 models as well. I expect to take my vehicle in for service ASAP.

Trailer brake controller is not engaging trailer brakes when the brake pedal is pressed. The trailer brakes will engage when manually squeezing the controller. Exact same symptoms as my 2021 f150 which had the recall. This is a September build, dealer service is telling me there is nothing wrong, it all checks out.

I just had the same issue described in the forum listed below. Extremely loud max volume screeching static through the speakers. Tried turning the car off and on several times, tried turning the radio off, tried switching to Serius xm radio, nothing would make it stop and it was completely unsafe to drive it like that. It was too loud to hear anything else over it and it was so jarring. I now have a headache and i’m nervous to drive it for fear of it happening again. My husband had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I have a video but it doesn’t seem like I can upload it here, only pics. https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/extremely-loud-electrical-pop-followed-by-loud-static.9591/page-4

- #11495671December 1, 2022VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
General: While driving this rental vehicle over the span of three days, I noticed and confirmed over a dozen times that the vehicle's speed control would dramatically increase with NO driver input or actions. Specific: The vehicle's cruise control would be on and active, set at various speeds; 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 (long, straight road with varying speed limits). In different circumstances (sometimes when being overtaken by another vehicle, or cresting a hill or when beginning to climb a hill), the speed control, while set would immediately, with no driver input other than light steering INCREASE to 15-30 mph above the speed at which the cruise control was set. Over the period of three days of rental I was able to verify this behavior many times and I was able to capture a video that shows the speed set increase from 65 mph to 90 mph immediately, and the vehicle would begin aggressive acceleration. I have a clear video of the steering wheel and gauge cluster that I cannot attach to this report, but will email upon request. In the video, the malfunction is at the 13 second mark. In this video, the speed control setting increased from 65mph immediately to 90mph and the vehicle started accelerating. Switching the speed control off, or tapping the brake ceased the acceleration, as expected. Vehicle was reported to National car rental and an attempt was made to report it to Ford. Because it was a rental, I am unaware of any corrective action or inspection that may have, or may take place.

Issues started after the under the hood fire recall. When driving the vehicle the car will shut down and throw all lights on the dash. This vehicle has been in the shop for repairs, but not fixed. This is a safety issue due to the fact the the vehicle will shut down while driving leaving you stranded when it happens.

The contact owns a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that as his wife had attempted to park the vehicle, she placed the gear shifter into park(P) and let her foot off the brake pedal. Once she released her foot off the brake, the vehicle abruptly accelerated forward and hit a storage shed. The contact depressed the brake pedal multiple times during the failure but the brakes failed to engage. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel during the failure. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The police were not called and no medical assistance was needed. The storage shed was destroyed as a result of the impact. The contact called the dealer and made an appointment for a diagnostic. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
