While operating my 2023 Chevrolet Corvette at approximately 75 mph on [XXX], the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly lost propulsion. Moments later, the vehicle completely shut down. The instrument display went dark and the vehicle's lights went out. This occurred in active highway traffic. I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle while avoiding surrounding vehicles and narrowly avoided a potentially catastrophic collision. I managed to bring the Corvette to rest on the shoulder. The vehicle was subsequently transported approximately 20 miles to an authorized Chevrolet dealership at my expense. The dealership retained the vehicle for approximately five months. During that period, I was not provided a courtesy or replacement vehicle. The dealership replaced the transmission under the manufacturer's warranty. The replacement transmission part number may differ from the original, but this requires confirmation from repair records. Although the transmission was replaced, I do not know whether the dealership separately diagnosed and corrected the cause of the complete electrical blackout. I am concerned that the loss of propulsion followed by a complete electrical blackout represents a serious safety defect that could result in a collision, serious injury, or death. I request that NHTSA investigate the failure, including the relationship between the transmission malfunction, loss of propulsion, and electrical shutdown. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the outer painted panel of the removable targa roof began separating from its supporting frame. The roof frame remained latched to the vehicle, but the driver-side front/top-left corner of the painted panel lifted far enough that I could see daylight between the panel and frame. I immediately pulled off the highway, removed the roof, stored it in the trunk, and drove home. The panel did not completely detach and there was no crash, injury, or property damage. Continued separation could allow the panel to detach while driving and strike occupants or surrounding traffic. The vehicle was purchased used in 2011 with this painted roof installed. Factory build information lists option CC3, indicating the vehicle originally had a transparent removable roof. GM Customer Care reviewed the VIN and build information, stated that the vehicle was not included in safety recall 09230 because it was originally equipped with a transparent roof, and declined assistance. No physical inspection by GM was performed. The failure appears similar to removable-roof panel separation addressed in GM campaigns 06041 and 09230; I am not claiming this VIN was officially included in either campaign.

One of the upper rear control arm brackets partially detached from the chassis while cornering causing the rear wheel to toe out. The cause of the failure is a cold weld. The vehicle is untouched since the incident and available for review. This issue is relatively common on C5 corvettes. Please search "C5 control arm bracket tear" to find many documented instances. As these vehicle shift from being garage queens to performance bargains, the issue will become more visible. My C5 went 100k miles and 20 some years until the cold weld let go.

My Corvette was inspected as part of the initial steering lock recall and I was told it was okay, no action was needed. Subsequently, my steering column lock has frozen and the vehicle cannot be moved under its own power. Does the original recall still apply? From what I have seen on the Corvette Forum, this is an ongoing, recurring issue with C5 Corvettes.

If I fill my tank all the way, fuel leaks. It doesn't reach the ground but if you look underneath, you can see where the fuel has leaked. Also, the fumes are so bad it cannot be kept in the garage. There was a warranty program (Special Coverage Adjustment #17469) for this but there are a lot of other cars that did not display these symptoms and were not fixed while the warranty period was intact. Now the timeframe has passed (not mileage) and these parts that are known to be faulty and failing. The dealerships are trying to also tack on extra work/parts/costs to these repairs by telling customers to replace the fuel tank when in actuality, the problem is the fuel pump module and o-ring. Repairs have been quotes at $3500 which is ridiculous considering GM knew the parts were faulty.

My Onstar feature does not work at all. So there is no emergency notification in the event of an accident. The dealer ordered the module to repair the problem but GM keeps canceling the order. There has been reports of the engine stalling, I have not experienced that yet so I do not drive the vehicle much for that reason.

Vehicle is 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with about 33000 miles. On XXXI was driving about 65 mph on [XXX] in the left lane with my wife as passenger. On a slight left curve the front brakes applied hard on their own without my input. The car slowed very rapidly. A semi truck in the right lane had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. A similar event happened on XXX with only me in the car at about 45 mph. The front brakes applied on their own in a similar way. I also recall a possible similar event in November or XXX. I am not certain of that earliest date. Since then, it has happened several times more and confirmed by Chevrolet Dealership. Warning symptoms: The tire pressure monitoring system warning light has been on intermittently. The right front tire pressure does not display. The light was on before the March event and is on now. Dealer inspection: The dealer inspected the car on XXX and on later visits. A GM corporate field engineer also inspected the car. They stated they could not duplicate the concern and made no repair. I have since returned the vehicle to the dealership and it has been in their possession since XXX. The vehicle was taken out and confirmed the braking issue. Tech's reinspected the vehicle and cannot figure out the issue. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: Uncommanded hard braking at highway speed creates risk of being struck from behind and risk of loss of control. "Both front headlamp assemblies have internal moisture condensation and permanent residue/streaking on the interior lens surfaces. This is a known manufacturing defect documented across 2020-2024 C8 Corvette model years. GM issued TSB 01-08-42-001P acknowledging this defect. Cox Chevrolet documented both headlamps as 'DEFECTIVE HEADLAMP LENSES' on repair order #428778. The vehicle has only 3,700 miles. GM's own Policy Evaluation Tool confirms zero miles driven out of warranty. GM offered only $250 in rewards points in response to a formal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act demand for $5,050 in repair coverage. GM Case numbers: 91145522 and 105260981. This is a safety concern as defective headlamps reduce nighttime visibility."

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that there was a strong fuel odor coming from vehicle while parked or while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The technician removed the fuel tank and discovered that the hose connected to the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The dealer notified the manufacturer about the failure; however, the manufacturer stated that the warranty had expired. The contact was informed by the dealer that the repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with the same information as the dealer. The failure mileage was 42,134

I purchased car on July 8. September 3, I delivered the vehicle to the dealership because of a significant fuel-system failure. Still awaiting fix. The failure involved fuel-system components, including the fuel tube/multiple O-ring assembly, and resulted in a significant gasoline spill on my garage floor (an O-ring was also found inside the fuel tank). The dealership’s service department photographed the failed fuel-system components, and I have been informed the components were subsequently shipped back to GM engineers (inclusive of the tank) for examination and analysis so GM could determine how the failure occurred and how the vehicle should be repaired. I have adked for written clarification regarding the repair and GM’s investigation, including: The exact fuel-system components that failed, including the specific fuel tube and O-rings involved. GM’s determination, if available, regarding why those components failed. Whether GM is aware of similar failures involving these components. Whether there are any applicable Technical Service Bulletins, engineering investigations, or other GM documentation relating to this failure. What GM engineering determined from its examination of the failed components, to the extent that information is available to the customer. What specific procedures have been performed to ensure the fuel system is completely leak-free and safe. Whether the entire fuel system was inspected for additional damage or compromised components. The total number of days the vehicle is documented as being out of service for this repair.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the steering column of my 2000 Chevrolet Corvette, VIN [XXX]. The vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission. The vehicle displays “SERVICE COLUMN LOCK.” The engine will start, but the steering wheel remains physically locked and the vehicle cannot be safely driven. This vehicle was previously subject to GM Safety Recall N040006 concerning the electronic steering column lock. GM’s records show that Recall N040006 was completed on XXX, with the description: “Install Harness Kit, Reprogram and Perform Functional Test.” I contacted a Chevrolet dealer to determine what work was actually performed under the recall. The dealer stated that they could not identify the specific work that was performed. They confirmed that there are no current open recalls or Special Coverage associated with the VIN and stated that they could not perform any further repair under the recall. I subsequently contacted General Motors Customer Assistance. GM advised me that the Special Policy previously associated with this steering-column issue is not tied to my VIN. My concern is that the vehicle is experiencing the same fundamental safety issue involving a steering column that remains locked, despite the vehicle showing a completed steering-column recall from 2005. I am concerned that an earlier version of the recall remedy may have been performed and that the underlying steering-column-lock condition may not have been permanently corrected. I am asking NHTSA to review this complaint and the history of this safety issue to determine whether the condition represents a continuing safety defect and whether the prior recall remedy adequately addressed the problem on this vehicle. The vehicle is currently not being driven because the steering wheel remains locked. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Can smell gas fumes after filling gas tank. Had independent shop analyze problem and codes indicated a cracked fuel pump module. This is a serious hazard because fuel can leak onto exhaust or heat shield and cause a fire. GM currently has a Special Coverage Program #17469 for 2014-2017 corvette. My 2019 corvette has the exact same issue and should be covered under Program #17469. My corvette has only 23000 miles.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while the vehicle was on a trailer dynamometer machine, a plastic piece at the bottom of the accelerator pedal fractured. The accelerator pedal slid up and became stuck in the full-throttle position and had to be manually returned to the normal position. The contact stated the engine overheated, and the stop button failed to turn off the vehicle. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Vehicle: 2022 Chevrolet Corvette C8 1LT VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of defect: 5,359 miles Purchase Date:XXX ([XXX]) DEFECT DESCRIPTION: At approximately 5,359 miles, my vehicle developed a serious transmission defect. When placed in reverse gear and the brake pedal is released, the vehicle jerks backward abruptly and then shuts off completely. Additionally, when driving forward, the transmission skip-shifts unpredictably (e.g., jumping from 1st gear to 3rd gear to 5th gear without engaging intermediate gears). This creates a serious safety hazard, including sudden loss of power while driving and unpredictable/violent vehicle movement while reversing, which could cause a collision or injury to myself or others nearby. The vehicle was inspected by Alghanim Automotive, an authorized GM dealer in [XXX], on XXX, which confirmed the transmission required full replacement, at a cost of approximately $23,500 USD. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect, as it appears to be a manufacturing/transmission defect that could affect other 2022 Corvette C8 owners and may warrant a recall. The system that was affected was the power steering. As I was driving home doing residential speeds, I noticed a message pop up in my heads up display “Power Steering, Drive with Caution” as I selected okay, the steering wheel became very stiff. Luckily I was 5 minutes away from home and was able to drive carefully back into the garage. This is the first time I’ve experienced this failure. After parking the car in the garage, I turned the car off and then restarted the vehicle and the steering wheel had the same operability before the error. I plugged in my OBDII Reader to see if it produce any codes but to no avail. There was low-med risk as I was driving home with another vehicle behind me, but driving through a residence at 35mph.

Re: URGENT SAFETY CONCERN – 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 NHTSA Campaign No.: 25V536 GM Recall No.: N252514930 Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am writing to provide additional information regarding my 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and to respectfully request an urgent investigation into whether my vehicle should have been included in NHTSA Campaign No. 25V536 / GM Recall No. N252514930. My concern is extremely serious because my vehicle is experiencing a gasoline-related condition that appears consistent with the safety hazard identified in this recall. According to NHTSA's official recall documentation, certain 2023–2026 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles equipped with the left-side radiator/fan combination may allow excess gasoline spilled during refueling to enter the fuel-filler pocket and reach an ignition source, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. The recall remedy includes installation of an insert/protective shield intended to divert spilled gasoline away from surfaces behind the quarter panel. General Motors' investigation identified multiple fire incidents involving Corvettes equipped with the relevant radiator/fan configuration, including customer-owned vehicles and a GM development vehicle. GM also conducted physical testing that reproduced fuel ignition under simulated spill conditions. My 2026 Corvette Z06 is experiencing a strong gasoline/fuel odor, including fumes noticeable inside the passenger compartment, and I am deeply concerned that my vehicle may have the same underlying fuel-related safety condition addressed by this recall. Most importantly, my vehicle appears to lack the protective safety shield that was established as the recall remedy. For this reason, I respectfully ask NHTSA not to rely solely upon why this car was sold when there is no protective safety sheild.

My windshield is defective. It is flaking and pieces are coming off of it. It’s a safety issue to me. It’s distracting my vision and it’s right in the vision where I look out the windshield. It’s not rock chips. It’s flaking. I’m getting pieces of glass in my wash rag so therefore I feel it’s a safety issue.
