2023-2024 Honda Civic EPS Sticking and Slipping TSB 24-095

Symptoms

Repair Procedure Summary

2. The heat shield is removed to gain access to the EPS gearbox.
3. The area around the black cover on the EPS gearbox is thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, mud, or debris. Compressed air is used to dry the area and remove any remaining debris, with precautions taken to prevent entry into the gearbox.
4. The steering motor black cover is carefully removed by unbolting it and gently prying it off with a plastic trim tool. The original O-ring is removed and discarded, and the cover is cleaned.
5. Grease is packed into the worm gear, ensuring it fills the gap where the worm gear mates with the nylon gear.
6. New grease is applied between the new replacement end cap, spring, and spring seat, and also on top of the spring seat. This assembly is set aside, protected from contamination.
7. A new O-ring is greased and installed onto the steering motor cover.
8. Any excess grease around the EPS aluminum housing is wiped off.
9. The steering motor black cover is reinstalled and torqued to 8 N·m (6 lb-ft).
10. The EPS bracket and EPS gearbox are removed from the subframe.
11. The exposed sealant around the end cap is cleaned with a wire brush and brake cleaner.
12. The old end cap, spring, and spring seat are removed using a magnet tool and immediately discarded.
13. The new spring seat, spring, and end cap are assembled with grease and installed into the EPS gearbox. The end cap is tightened until 4 mm of threads are exposed.
14. Hondabond sealant is applied to the exposed threads of the end cap, which is then torqued to 12 N·m (9 lb-ft). Excess sealant is wiped away.
15. All parts are reinstalled in reverse order of removal.
16. The steering wheel is turned full left and full right to ensure smooth operation.
17. A wheel alignment is performed.
18. Finally, a VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization procedure is completed.
