2023 BMW 330i Digital Key Malfunction TSB

Symptoms

Owners experiencing this BMW Digital Key malfunction will notice that the main digital key cannot be paired using the My BMW App. The digital key pairing process fails to respond after the message "Please place your smartphone on the NFC tray" appears in the Central Information Display (CID).

Additionally, the Near-Field Communication (NFC) card function may also be unavailable, preventing its use for vehicle access or starting.

The root cause of this pairing issue is unfavorable software installed in the Head Unit 5 (HU-H5) control module. This software prevents the proper communication and setup required for the Digital Key system to function correctly.

BMW advises technicians to always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply, as detailed in SI B04 23 10, before performing any programming. This ensures stable voltage during the update process.

If the vehicle's current I-level is already at S18A-24-07-525 or a more recent version, the vehicle should not be programmed. In such cases, standard diagnostic procedures should be followed to identify any other potential issues.
