On hot days, has happened multiple times. At parking lot, car did not turn on first two attempts, finally when on, then electrical shuts off. Starter system faulty message service vehicle. Stuck key in and out, several attempts: Got car to turn on. Moved it to shade as electrical shut off. Once cooled turn back on. Other instance, while driving on highway the dasboard, gauges, electronics info system shut off. AC and Engine remained on. No turn signals availability. Happened during day time; I assume brake lights not working either. Pulled over, called dealer, said it's safety feature Temp Sensor when its hot outside car will shut off. Issue for months now. Prior to this P Position message yellow triangle exclamation point. Shifter moved bach and forth along with turning key ignition several time ( cooler weather period). May or may not be related. Service engine soon pops up. The Car always has oil changes, antifreeze, and filters up to date. Car has new battery. Alternator is working properly. No indication its the starter. Still having issue. I had car towed to VW dealership as I read about recall. Misunderstanding, they will not work on it as recall is not active. Key Ignition Switch: no solution status. I had car towed because the associate at VW stated it would be worked on and recall set for October 2023 to be honored. The solution is not to have car remain in shade, or wait for recall to be active. VW must be awareof issue: temp senor, ignition key switch/system and possible shifter. Not safe to at all. Cars can hit you during this event with no brakes, sometimes shuuting off or be left stranded.

The Jetta hybrid relies on a control unit, called the "mechatronic unit" to decouple the gasoline engine from the transmission. This, in turn, transfers propulsion to the electric motor, inside the transmission housing. The "mechatronic" is a highly specialized component, the "brains" of the Jetta's hybrid powertrain, and, therefore, can only be found in the Jetta hybrid. -market sales data says that a scant 8,515 Jetta hybrids were manufactured across model years 2013 - 2016. -an open NHTSA safety recall, 34j6, has been applied to a cross section of the total 8,515 Jetta hybrids produced. -per recall 34j6, exactly 2,149 Jetta hybrids have been included by VIN# in this recall. -safety recall 34j6 specifically addresses the "mechatronic accumulator housing". -recall description: hairline cracks may develop in the accumulator housing of the transmission (mechatronic unit), leaking and leading to insufficient transmission oil pressure. If this happens, the transmission warning light will illuminate in the instrument panel. If the warning light is ignored and the vehicle is driven, the clutch may not engage. There could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels, potentially leading to a vehicle crash.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS warning light, EPC warning light, and power steering warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the EPC warning light and power steering warning lights illuminated intermittently; however, the ABS warning light remained illuminated. Additionally, the transmission failed to shift as needed, and the speedometer failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V913000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Electronic Stability Control). The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the vehicle due to other warning lights being illuminated, not just the ABS warning light. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

- #11543253September 7, 2023ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V604000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the instrument panel displayed the message "Stop Vehicle”. The contact had approximately 2 minutes to turn off and restart the vehicle before all electrical functions failed, causing the vehicle to stall. If the contact was unable to restart the vehicle in a timely manner, the vehicle had to be towed. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who determined that the ignition switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Only on days where I leave my car in the direct heat under the sun for a few hours I go to get in and start and it starts up at first and then the dashboard displays "check starter system" soon after all the electrical work in the car shuts down and doesn't turn on again until the car cools down or when the sun goes down. I live in phoenix where it's hot everyday so this issue is happening frequently with my vehicle.

- #11542727September 5, 2023TIRES:SIDEWALL, TIRES
205/60 R 16 I was driving on the Loop 101 South in Scottsdale, Arizona going highway speeds when I heard my passenger side rear tire explode. There were no preceding warning lights or tire pressure warnings before it happened. I pulled over and say that the sidewall blew out on both sides. There were no puncture marks on the tire that would have caused the blowout except for the sidewall failing.

- #11542174September 1, 2023SERVICE BRAKES
Without warning, the rear brakes started making unusual scraping sound with slight loss of braking power. Within a week of the issue took car to dealer who informed me that rear brake pads were completely worn out with calipers scraping and damaging the rotors. VW refused to fix the issue via warranty. By the end of the week, the scraping escalated and significant loss of braking power occurred. The premature failure or the braking pads and subsequent rotor damage seems to be a pervasive problem and well documented problem at VW. Their approach to safety and resolution however very troubling. The car was purchased new from the dealer 30 months ago and has 15,300 miles at the time of the incident.

This vehicle and other vehicles of the same model have a faulty ignition cylinder lock housing causing the key to be unable to turn the car to off and be removed from the ignition. This does not allow the driver to park and leave the car as the key remains stuck and unable to turn. This problem has been reported by a dealer as an issue that is fixed weekly on other vehicles of the same make and model in shop. The vehicle has been inspected by the Volkswagen dealership and determined to be a failure within the vehicle. The key in the ignition has occasionally become stuck but, now remains in the vehicle for consistently after each drive for up to 30 minutes of trying to remove it.
