My original owner 2002 Toyota Tundra Truck was being backed up in reverse with a utility trailer attached up a very, very moderate incline on a driveway pushing the trailer onto a gravel pad ALONGSIDE (parallel) the driveway. As it started to spin gravel the truck was put into a 4 wheel Drive LOW RANGE. This is in keeping with the TOYOTA owners manual publication 0M34417U Part Number 01999-34417 Print date 02-0109-01. We followed the manual instruction on 4 WD operation. Within a few feet the truck stopped as if the wheels had hit a curb and there was no further movement no matter the accelerator pedal position and the engine speed was unchanged as if it was in a stall. All of a sudden there was a loud bang underneath the truck and the truck raced rearward 8-10 feet jackknifing the trailer into a tree and upending the truck and trailer. We contacted Toyota on the incident and they had a third party look at the truck for brake condition, floor mat placement and throttle freedom at the body shop & Toyota closed the complaint file. Toyota IGNORED the circumstances and description of the incident in closing the complaint. We have been a very long time TOYOTA truck family and have owned SIX Toyota 4 wheel drives plus a Lexus all-wheel drive. In doing our own evaluation and investigation we have found that the truck went into a 4-wheel drive "wind-up" or "bind" and found information related on it from ASE Certification sites. NO MENTION of this potential issue is provided in the owners manual! We found that the torque from this can be over 4,000 ft/lb. and possible magnified even more by low range. When this bind suddenly is released the movement can be violent as happened here. Why is this not talked about in the owner manual? Why does Toyota ignore this reality? Indeed, the Toyota Rep. Mr. Ronald Inton said "he never heard of anyone backing up in 4 Wheel Drive"! WHAT?? We have the vehicle, photos, Toyota denial all available for review,.

On [XXX] approximately [XXX], travelling on [XXX] in Florida between Ocala and Gainesville my Toyota Tundra 2022 Crew Max engine shut down and lost power. There were a few lite knocks that were heard over a few minutes and I pulled over at a gas station to check it. I turned the truck off and on again after filling the gas. I heard the knocks at low RPM but were not concerning due to the fact that once the engine turned over, they seemed to go away. I returned to [XXX] and headed towards Gainesville. At approximately [XXX], the engine made a few intermittent knocks and I looked at the RPMs and dash- no warnings were exhibited. I was boxed between 2 x 18 Wheelers, 1 behind me and one on right lane when the engine light came on and a notice stating loss of oil pressure. I went to get to the left lane having to pull in front of the 18 wheeler on right side, the engine cut power and the dash said engine was shut down. I believe the hybrid motor gave us enough momentum to cut quickly off road. In the process, the truck on the right came within touching the vehicle as it was enough to knock the bike over on the back of the truck. Prior to this event I brought the vehicle to Hedricks in Fayetteville for new tires, safety inspection and recalls to be worked off on 12NOV. This was a result of advice in terms of tires from the mechanics given the last recall I brought it in for. New tires were placed on the vehicle, 2 recalls were worked off and we had a discussion about the engine recall. I was told there was no solution yet from Toyota and that a solution would be coming. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive and was told that if there are no issues, you are fine and that it is a small percentage of vehicles that may have the issue. On 2DEC, Gatorland Toyota in Gainesville, FL, where the vehicle was left confirmed with Toyota it was the engine recall issue and that the vehicle will not be available for 3 to 9 months pending repair parts. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.

The tailgate can be easily dislodged from hinge when lifting from the passenger side of tailgate leading to it coming out of the C Hinge and hurting individual not expecting the full weight of tailgate coming off. No injuries luckily happened at the time of incident other than minor cosmetic damage from where the tailgate hit. I have video recreating what happened to describe the incident better but lack of hinge protection could result in serious injury if this occurs again.

Toyota has two recalls on my 2023 tundra. One is from August 10, 2023 and the other is from May 30, 2024. The first can cause a fuel leak and the second can cause engine failure while driving. i got this truck in 2022. i am wondering what has to happen before something will be done to fix theses recalls or I have to go through some changes before this is handled. I do not need any accidents before anything is done to fix my situation

Brakes were bad and squeaky from the first week I received the vehicle, Toyota claims it’s a known issue but for the past 6 months says the parts are on back order. The brakes are getting worse and worse.

The vehicle intermediately has poor throttle response resulting in unsafe driving conditions. The poor throttle response occurs when taking off from a start as well as when accelerating at highway speeds. I nearly got into an accident today changing lanes on a highway as a vehicle was approaching at a rapid speed. The truck failed to accelerate for 3-5 seconds which is unacceptable. When I applied throttle the truck actually slowed down. This condition is sporadic which makes it more dangerous.

I am currently leasing this 2023 Toyota Tundra Platinum and after about six I noticed that there was a delay in the throttle engaging and it felt like the truck bogged down. I asked the sales associate whom I bought the vehicle from if this was normal, and she said it was a normal safety feature. I have brought up a complaint with Toyota since November of 2023 about it and since then I have had my kids in the truck and there are multiple situations where i have had to cross traffic, go around someone on the highway almost being rearended because the vehicle does not engage and go as needed ultimately almost causing multiple wrecks. Toyota mechanics have ridden with me so I can show them, and they also have noticed the delay, and they have no answer for me. After researching the internet, I am not the only one having this issue with the 2022-2023 tundra. Here recently I have noticed that when you go from breaking to a stop and then go straight to the gas pedal there is a hesitation and then surge from the vehicle which I feel is also very unsafe. All I am asking is for the vehicle to be replaced so my family is safe. Please help me in any possible because Toyota will not.

I came upon a hairpin turn on a country road in North Georgia. I applied brakes hard as was driving at 42 mph (according to engineering report). I made the turn without sliding and not colliding with anything when my side curtain airbags deployed. I hit nothing and no damage whatsoever with exception of nearly $10,000.00 interior damage from airbag deployment.

2023 Tundra 39k miles. Engine shut off randomly while driving at 65 MPH. Was able to pull to the side of the road. Turned it off then back on and it was like nothing had happened. Pretty heavy traffic where it happened. Really dangerous.

The frame/chassis of my truck has sections that are completely rusted out. For instance, the part of the chassis that is responsible for holding the fuel tank in place is rotting away. I know there was a service campaign to have these trucks coated with some preventive coating but that is as effective as the original coating. The truck needs a new frame due to rust.

Problem Parts?? At around 70,000 miles I was told that there was an engine oil leak ... camshaft area... and the engine needs to pulled out with a repair cost of about $5,000 dollars. (Reseal both cam towers, replace gaskets, etc.) A bit ridiculous. Is there now a possible engine fire risk? At 70,000 miles there was obviously a manufacturing mistake or a defective part used during assembly.
