STELLANTIS SPECIAL INVESTIGATION # 98439287/FOLOW UP FOR NHTSA COMPLAINT # 11769254/STELLANTIS CATASTROPHIC STRUCTURAL FAILURE / RECALL REMEDY FAILURE: - The front wheel and upper control arm completely separated from the steering knuckle while driving on the road. On October 5, 2026, while driving on a public road, my 2021 Grand Cherokee Limited suffered a catastrophic structural component failure where the wheel and upper control arm completely separated from the steering knuckle, causing an immediate and hazardous loss of steering control. This exact failure matches the critical safety components covered under an active manufacturer safety recall 10B/NHTSA 24V-132. The recall was repaired at the dealership on 08 July 2024. Despite the component failure matching an open safety recall, Stellantis is stonewalling the recall remedy. Stellantis corporate customer service is improperly misclassifying this life-threatening structural failure as a standard parts warranty issue rather than a safety recall failure. Consequently, they have denied the provision of a loaner or rental vehicle, leaving me without safe transportation. Furthermore, the manufacturer is failing to act with any regulatory urgency. The vehicle has been held at two separate authorized Stellantis dealerships since the date of the incident (October 5, 2026). While Stellantis has opened a Special Investigation Case (Case Number: [98439287]) the inspection is not scheduled to proceed until November 3, 2026—nearly a full month after the on-road failure occurred. I am requesting that NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) immediately investigate Stellantis for a failure to properly administer and execute a federally mandated safety recall remedy, deliberately delaying a critical safety inspection, and misclassifying a catastrophic on-road structural failure to avoid corporate liability and consumer safety accommodations.

While driving my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L at approximately 45 mph on [XXX], I unexpectedly lost electronic power steering assistance. The steering became difficult to control, creating a serious safety hazard. I was fortunately able to maneuver off the roadway, but this sudden failure could have resulted in a serious collision, placing myself and other motorists at risk. Multiple dashboard warnings appeared during the incident, including “Service Power Steering,” “Service Electronic Stability Control,” “Auto Park Disabled,” and “Park Brake Temporarily Unavailable.” I had not previously experienced a loss of power steering assistance. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Jeep dealership, which diagnosed an internal electronic power steering rack failure and recommended replacement at an estimated cost of $4,000. The dealership also identified a parking-related electronic module that was not communicating properly and required additional diagnosis. Both the main and auxiliary batteries were replaced, but the warnings persisted. Within three days, the dealership reported that the newly installed auxiliary battery was nearly discharged, raising additional concerns about possible electrical system malfunctions. I am the original owner, having leased the vehicle new and subsequently purchased it. The failure occurred at approximately 82,000 miles. I am also aware of NHTSA Recall 23V-352 (Jeep Recall 58A), involving the intermediate steering shaft, although its relationship to this failure has not been established. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, which submitted a goodwill assistance request to Stellantis. The failed component’s availability for further inspection has not yet been confirmed. I am requesting investigation of this unexpected loss of power steering assistance while driving, given the significant risk of a serious accident. While driving on a public road with my two small children my Jeep suffered a sudden and catastrophic 100% total electrical blackout. The vehicle electrical system glitched, the engine shut down, the steering failed and the wheels locked up completely, leaving me stranded in a active intersection with non working hazardous lights. the vehicle completely lost auxiliary and safety circuits. There was zero warning of any sort on my dash prior to this happening, leaving me and my two small children in danger. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where I purchased it in February of 2026. Both Batteries where replace but multiple codes on the scan report are showing codes PCM P00FD, TCM P0563-00, RFH U0418-00 and along with other codes. These codes confirm a high-voltage surge that actively disabled core transmission, breaking and emergency lighting communication networks. The components are currently available for inspection at the dealership.

"The manufacturer closed Safety Recall Y72 on my vehicle stating a software update resolved the headlight hazard. However, the safety defect is actively occurring. During rain, moisture enters the headlamp assembly, causing the headlight to flash uncontrollably and sending severe electronic glitch signals across the dashboard. This creates a sudden, dangerous visibility hazard while driving. I have attached an official Mopar wiTECH 2.0 diagnostic scan tool report dated September 2026. The scan explicitly proves active hardware failures, including code B1632-11 (Left High Beam Short to Ground) and code B2835-13 (Left Headlamp Assembly Performance-Circuit Open). The software recall failed to protect the vehicle, and the physical lighting components are shorting out. The manufacturer is refusing to repair this safety defect without out-of-pocket costs."

- #11770512October 12, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
I own a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L covered under a Mopar Maximum Care extended warranty. My vehicle frequently displays the following safety-related warnings: - Auto Emergency Braking (AEB) Limited Functionality – Service Required - Blind Spot Alert Unavailable – Service Required - Active Lane Management (ALM) Unavailable – Service Required These warnings occur randomly, sometimes appearing and disappearing repeatedly within seconds. Because the malfunctions are intermittent and unpredictable, they are difficult to reproduce during a scheduled inspection. I have documented multiple incidents through photographs and videos. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Jeep dealership, where technicians conducted an approximately 50-mile test drive but could not reproduce the warnings. Despite reviewing my documented evidence, both the service department and service manager stated that no further action could be taken unless the warnings appeared during their inspection. This response is particularly concerning because the warnings involve critical safety systems, including automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane management. Their intermittent unavailability raises serious concerns about vehicle safety. The dealership's position effectively shifts the burden of an unpredictable safety-related malfunction onto the vehicle owner. While requiring the issue to be reproduced during inspection may be convenient for the dealership, it leaves me without a practical means of obtaining a repair. I cannot repeatedly bring my vehicle in whenever a warning briefly appears. As a result, despite having comprehensive extended warranty coverage, I am left driving a vehicle with recurring, unresolved safety-system malfunctions and no meaningful path toward diagnosis or repair.

In XXX I received a phone call from the Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership in [XXX] that my vehicle had a recall and needed repairs. I took my vehicle there XXX and assumed all work was completed and that the dealership billed out to the manufacturer for repayment for performing this recall repair. However, now I am receiving additional notifications from both FCA and the dealership that the same identified recall is needing to be repaired again (64A or 20D). I am concerned there is something suspicious happening with the dealership and feel like they are being dishonest to the manufacturer that they actually repaired my vehicle in April under this recall. I would like this to be investigated because I was not provided any proof of service/repair (photos, document, etc). I am unsure about how to move forward with the newest communication from FCA regarding my vehicle recall with the rear coil spring. Obviously, mine and my child's safety are the utmost concern at this point as this is my only vehicle. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?- Left and Right 3.6L Engine Mount. Vehicle purchase 7/23/2021. Yes available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?-The failed engine mounts are a safety concern because the mounts premature wear causes the engine to move which can damage other vital components of the vehicle. The excessive engine movement can cause damage to steering, drive train, fuel cooling, and electrical components, which could lead to loss of vehicle control, or a breakdown. If the mount fails completely, the engine can shift enough to affect shifting, steering, or throttle operation increasing the risk of a crash. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The dealer has inspected it each time that I sent it for a oil change, but diagnostic was not completed until April 2026. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?-The symptom of rumbling, vibration appeared 4 years ago and has worsened in the last year.

- #11770482October 11, 2026SUSPENSION, POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland has experienced repeated and escalating safety‑related failures involving the electrical system, telematics/SOS functions, powertrain components, and suspension. These failures have continued despite major warranty repairs and now pose a significant safety risk. Timeline of Defects: In August 2026 at ~52,276 miles, the vehicle required over $10,000 in repairs. Failures included: no A/C cooling, compressor and fan not engaging, evaporator leak, low refrigerant, and A/C clutch not activating. The driver seat cooling failed, the seat fan dragged, and both massage seat modules were shorted. The engine had an oil pan leak, idler and tensioner noise, and collapsed engine mounts. Immediately after these repairs, in September 2026, new electrical and safety issues began. Jeep Connectivity stopped working, purchased WiFi failed, and both the Assist and SOS emergency functions became inoperative. The vehicle displayed incorrect warnings (low oil pressure, low tire pressure) and experienced intermittent no‑start conditions requiring towing. Multiple system alerts appeared at once, suggesting BCM, gateway module, CAN‑bus, or telematics control unit malfunction. On October 5, 2026, I received a recall notice stating the rear suspension coils were installed backwards, affecting vehicle stability. No replacement parts are available, leaving the defect unresolved. As of October 2026 (~55,700 miles), the vehicle continues to experience telematics failure, electrical instability, incorrect warnings, and intermittent no‑start conditions. The loss of SOS/Assist functionality, combined with suspension defects and electrical instability, creates a serious safety hazard. I request NHTSA investigation into these systemic failures and the unresolved suspension recall.

- #11769919October 8, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, POWER TRAIN
On or about 10/7/26, my vehicle suffered a simultaneous, unprompted failure of multiple safety and control systems. I believe this is due to a background manufacturer-initiated Over-the-Air (OTA) software update and is a well known issue on the Jeep Grand Cherrokee L . The exact date the update was pushed is unknown, as it occurred automatically via the telematics system. The symptoms appeared suddenly: the Forward Collision Warning and Pedestrian Emergency Braking (PEB) systems completely deactivated, leaving the 'FCW OFF' warning light permanently illuminated on the dashboard. Concurrently, the steering wheel paddle shifters ceased to function ('Paddle Shifting Disabled'), and the vehicle's digital display automatically reset its units of measurement. This constitutes a severe safety hazard. The vehicle’s automated crash mitigation features are completely disabled, depriving the driver of critical safety protections designed to prevent front-end collisions. Furthermore, the loss of transmission control via the paddle shifters restricts the driver's ability to manually downshift and use engine braking, which is essential for safely managing vehicle speed on steep declines or slippery road conditions.

I am the owner of a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. I received notification of Safety Recall 89D, NHTSA Campaign 26V-562, regarding a rear coil spring that may not be correctly installed and could detach from the vehicle while driving, creating a road hazard and risk of crash or injury. I contacted my dealership to schedule the repair. I was told the recall remains open and is listed as "Incomplete, parts unavailable." The dealership was not able to give me any timeline for when the replacement parts would be in stock, and I have received no communication from the manufacturer with an estimated repair date. I have no indication from Jeep as to when parts will be available to complete this repair. This is a serious concern for my family. I am the primary driver of this vehicle, and I use it daily to transport my two young children to school and other activities. Knowing that this vehicle has a documented defect that could cause a rear coil spring to detach while driving, with no timeline for repair, is deeply distressing to me as a parent. My children's safety depends on this vehicle functioning correctly every time we are on the road, and I should not have to choose between driving a vehicle I know has an open safety defect and finding another way to transport my kids indefinitely. I am filing this complaint to formally document that this recall remains open with no parts available and no manufacturer timeline, and to ask that NHTSA take into account the real safety risk this poses to families with young children who have no choice but to continue driving these vehicles while a fix remains unavailable. My 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L experienced a complete failure of the passenger-side headlamp assembly at approximately 70k miles. The entire passenger-side headlamp became inoperative, not just one individual light. I received no headlamp out or exterior lighting warning on the instrument panel. At exactly the same time that the headlamp failed, the vehicle's odometer began flashing. Diagnostic scanning identified fault codes B22204-87 and U1222-00. Disconnecting the battery did not restore the headlamp or correct the flashing odometer. I am concerned because NHTSA Safety Recall 21V-950 (FCA Campaign Y72) involved certain 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles and a Smart Lighting Module software condition that could cause one or both headlamps to become inoperative. I do not know whether this recall condition cause my vehicle's failure, but my symptoms appear similar to the condition described in that recall. I took my vehicle into the local jeep dealership for recall work and included the inoperable headlamp, they told me there was no recall and said I needed to replace the entire headlamp for $1800 or $185 for a system scan. I was not advised of any diagnostic trouble codes, Smart Lighting Module communication, or smart lighting module software status had been evaluated before the headlamp replacement was recommended. I was not informed of a possible software or module-related cause for the failure. Because NHTSA Safety Recall 21V-950 (FCA Campaign Y72) addresses headlamp failure associated with Smart Lighting Module software on certain 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles, I am concerned that my vehicle may be experiencing a similar condition.

The steering started to feel intermittently difficult and then would release. It has been looked at by 2 mechanics and they report that it appears to be a structural failure of the front strut. The strut tower has separated from the body, the adhesive has failed, the rivets have broken loose, and the movement is causing the strut tower to contact the steering shaft resulting in intermittent binding of the steering. All involved believe this is a serious safety defect and a manufacturing issue. Because the car is out of warranty Jeep is denying any reasonability. There have been no accidents with this vehicle and no inciting event.
