STEERING
ISSUE 1: On [XXX], I was driving my vehicle ( License Plate [XXX], Vin# [XXX], Infinity 2017 Q50 Sedan, purchased in 2020 at Infiniti of Massepequa) on [XXX] ( a very busy highway on Long Island) traveling East.Suddenly the steering wheel locked and I could not turn the wheel. I was going straight on [XXX], and I tried to steer right and could not turn the wheel. Ater a minute I was able to force the steering wheel, against resistance, to the right and veered into the middle lane of the next cross street. I then had to back the car up at an angle in order to clear the next left turn. This enabled me to park on the right side curb while forcing the wheel to turn to the right. I needed to get my vehicle out of a busy street to safety. I turned the car on and off to check if the steering wheel unlocked and it remained locked. I was unable to drive the car so I called AAA and was towed to Infinity of Massepequa. I was told that I needed major work on the steering wheel system that will cost $5,605, parts and Labor. My car is a 2017 with only 50,000 miles on it. The 2014-2016 Infinity Q50's DAS systems were recalled for this exact steering problem. I asked the parts department about this recall and was told that my year car was not recalled. Given the frightening and dangerous incident and low mileage on the car, I think a recall is required on the 2017 model as well, given this harrowing experience. ISSUE 2: In December 2024 I paid $1,590 to repair the leaking sunroof on the Q50. When towed on [XXX], I mentioned ito the dealership that I still had leaking water in the car, again, a common problem with this infiniti model . I was told that they only repaired 2 of 4 drains originally at that time and repairing the other two was required and would cost an additional $1000-$2000. Again a product issue with this model Infiniti Q 50, on low mileage car. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

AIR BAGS
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with air bags failure. The contact was informed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to pass State Inspection due to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

STEERING
Affected: Steering/Electrical/Direct Adaptive Steering, 50K miles While driving my 2017 Infinity Q50s under normal driving conditions, the vehicle suffered an instantaneous, catastrophic, and total failure of the power steering assist system without any prior warning or dashboard fault indicators. The sudden loss of steering assist immediately caused the steering wheel to become incredibly heavy and virtually locked, requiring extreme, dangerous physical exertion to maintain minimal control over the direction of the vehicle. Due to the violent and unpredictable change in steering dynamics at speed, I was forced out of my lane and ran over a curb and came moments away from experiencing a severe, life-threatening collision. The vehicle was rendered entirely undrivable and presents an immediate, catastrophic crash hazard. It had to be flatbed-towed to Infinity Valencia dealership. I am the original owner of this vehicle, and it has been meticulously maintained with exceptionally low mileage of 50,000 mile. Infinity previously issued mandatory federal safety recalls identical Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) "steer-by-wire" software and module failures on the 2014-2016 model years (e.g., NHTSA Campaign number 16V433000). While the manufacturer asserted that the underlying engineering and software defects were fully resolved for the 2017 production year, this incident definitely proves that the catastrophic safety defect remains active, unmitigated, and present in the 2017 model year. Infinity Consumer Affairs and corporate databases currently lack proactive safety campaign for this specific VIN, leaving consumers entirely expose to a known, severe safety liability. I am filing this formal complaint to urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to open a formal defect investigation into the 2017 Infinity Q50/Q50s steering architecture and compel the manufacturer to expand the safety recall before this unmitigated defect results in fatal accident.

AIR BAGS, SEATS
The passenger seat occupant sensor is on. Dealer confirmed the code is related to a bad sensor so even if someone is sitting in the passenger seat and we are in an accident the airbag will not deploy. The dealer said a recall exists for earlier models but not for the 2017 even though they say it’s the same components. They want to charge me between $6,000 to $8,000 to repair which is almost as much as the car is worth. This unfortunately is cost prohibitive at this time so we are driving with the known risk. The light has been on for a couple of years now as we were hoping an additional recall would come out but it hasn’t which is why I am submitting this report.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The problem is on the recall, I understand my car is not on the VIN recall list but it's the same problem. Potential Recalls for 2017 Q50: Fuel Pump Control Module (2.0L engines): Improper software may cause the engine to stall.

WHEELS, SERVICE BRAKES, SUSPENSION
I experienced an ongoing grinding/rattling noise from the wheel/brake area. The vehicle was serviced multiple times by a franchised dealer, which diagnosed the issue as brake-related and performed brake repairs. The noise was not resolved, and the vehicle was returned in the same condition. Shortly after service, an independent mechanic discovered a cracked/broken brake pad installed on the vehicle. Due to safety concerns, the manufacturer authorized inspection at a separate franchised dealership under different ownership. That inspection confirmed aftermarket brake pads, rotors, and related components of unknown origin installed on both the front and rear, missing OEM hardware, improper lubrication, and wheel bearing issues contributing to the noise. The inspecting dealer documented that the braking system must be returned to OEM specifications before safe operation and further diagnosis could continue. Despite this, the manufacturer has declined to require OEM remediation, and the vehicle continues to operate with unauthorized aftermarket brake components. The grinding noise has continued and has since shifted toward the rear. The condition is reproducible, documented by video, and confirmed by independent inspection. I believe the vehicle was returned to service in an unsafe condition involving a critical braking system.

AIR BAGS, SEATS
I had a passenger seat belt light on and took it to Jim Coleman Infiniti in Bethesda,MD. They then were going to charge me a diagnostic fee to fix it, but instead proceeded to perform a zero point seat reset and got the error code B00A0 and then the passenger air bag light came on. They subsequently said that the vehicle was not covered under any recall or warranty and said that the seat needed to be replaced and informed me that it would be around $8000 at that time. Now it must be more. Looking at the recall campaign 16V244000 my vehicle does not qualify since it is one model year later, but I have seen others have the same issue that I have with the 2017 Q50. There is infact one in Florida that has a similar experience as mine. Talking to the dealer and Infiniti neither wanted to do a goodwill jesters and would only reduce the cost by a few thousand dollars. That still meant that I would need to put out more than $4000 to get a safety issue that should be covered. The symptoms and error codes are exactly the same. So I ask that you extend the recall campaign to the 2017 model year as well for the Q50. It is a safety hazard that will be present on the streets. The dealer also refuses to do the module reset saying that it will fail again. Pleas ask Infiniti to cover the cost of ensuring this critical safety for the passenger side is resolved for all model years that have the error code from the recall.

ENGINE, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
My vehicle has been stalling and burning/leaking oil internally for some time now with white smoke coming from the rear. Well Infiniti sent a post card and stated that the emission warranty is extended for 120,000 miles which my vehicle has had the issue for some time and it was already over 120k miles at the time of the loss. The issue Infiniti reported in their postcard is, you may experience issue with the turbocharger, Overtime there is a possibility for the turbocharger thrust bearing to wear and leak oil internally. The most likely conditions you will experience are excessive white smoke from the exhaust, MIL-On an in rare cases reduced engine power or damage to the internal components. My vehicle is experiencing all these issues reported and the company, Infiniti, knows this is an issue and did not issue a recall the extended warranty instead, most people will not qualify for which will require people to thousand of dollars replacing the turbocharger assembly and engine control model. I got a quote and was told 8000 dollars unfortunately I cannot have repairs done. I believe it was January 2025 when the post card came from Infiniti identifying the issue

ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES
The engine and turbo system failed in my 2017 Infiniti Q50 Signature Edition (VIN [XXX] ). The vehicle remains at CarMax Naperville, where it has been since March 2025. Internal repair orders show CarMax performed two failed inspections in August 2020 before selling the vehicle as “CarMax Certified” on September 3, 2020. The vehicle should not have passed certification. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I noticed it was pulling hard to the right. During my first tire rotation and oil change, the technician informed me that all four tires were severely dry-rotted and unsafe to drive on. CarMax had represented the vehicle as fully inspected and road-ready. These conditions suggest the vehicle had sat for an extended period after a prior four-point accident and should have never been certified for sale. None of this was disclosed to me at purchase. In March 2025, the engine failed. CarMax later reported that a replacement engine was installed, part #10102-6HN3A (single-turbo) instead of the required #10102-5CH2D (twin-turbo VR30DDTT). This engine does not match the original factory specifications for my VIN. Infiniti of Naperville confirmed that my vehicle qualifies for a free extended turbo and engine warranty (TSB P4A05/P4A06), but CarMax declined to use the required OEM one-time-use parts, voiding that coverage. CarMax has refused to provide inspection reports, diagnostic data, emissions test results, or engine serial numbers despite over forty written requests. I have no documentation confirming what work was performed or whether the vehicle is safe or compliant with emissions standards. The car has now been sitting at CarMax for over seven months, with rusted brakes and unknown mechanical condition. They are just concerned about me coming to get the car. This raises serious concerns about safety, emissions compliance, and potential consumer fraud involving improper certification and undisclosed prior damage. POWER TRAIN
I am the owner of a 2017 INFINITI Q50 purchased in 2019. My vehicle has suffered three separate turbocharger failures in four years: 2021 (~75,000 miles): turbocharger failure; replaced under my extended warranty (~$6,000 authorization). 2023 (~98,000 miles): turbocharger failure; replaced again under extended warranty (~$6,000 authorization). 2025 (143,000 miles): diagnostic confirms another turbocharger failure; quoted $8,900 out of pocket because my extended warranty has expired. These failures follow the classic symptoms of excessive exhaust smoke and MIL illumination that INFINITI has explicitly linked to premature turbocharger bearing wear in the February 2025 “limited emission warranty extension” for 2016–2018 Q50 and 2017–2018 Q60 vehicles. INFINITI’s bulletin states the company “is conducting a warranty extension to Full Useful Life (FUL) of 10 years or 120,000 miles” for select turbo assemblies where white smoke/oil-leak with MIL-on requires turbo replacement, and explains the reason as “possibility that the turbocharger bearing may leak engine oil internally due to premature wear.” INFINITI’s public owner-facing campaign page likewise describes this extension and its terms (10 years/120,000 miles), including reimbursement for qualifying prior repairs. Infiniti Assist While my current mileage exceeds 120,000 miles, my car has required two full turbo replacements before 100,000 miles and now requires a third at 143,000 miles. This pattern evidences a latent defect present well within the extension period and is consistent with the failure mode INFINITI acknowledges. They have offered no help and only assume 50% responsibility when they 100% have manufactured defective and poorly labored parts.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I went into Infiniti of Massapequa for an oil change I was told that my car has a recall for the ecm and by law they’re required to fix the recall in doing that it instantly caused a check engine light and are asking me to pay out of pocket for the oil pump adapter wire harness code P06DA repairs caused by the updated ecm I don’t feel that it is fair that I have to pay for anything due to issues from the dealers update of the ecm

ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Subject: Urgent: Check Engine Light After Vehicle Return I am contacting you regarding my vehicle, I dropped it off the dealer for oil change & they informed me it was recalled so they have to fix it, but they returned it to me with engine light on. They mentioned after fixing the recall the engine light came on…tested it and showed thermostat, but to pay 249 for them to diagnose because it’s a different problem, but that issue wasn’t there when I took my car. I have never had the check engine light on. I want my car back without the check engine light on. They now saying it’ll be $2700 to fix that. I said, no. They mentioned giving me a discount and it’ll be 1800 and they’ll cover labor. I said, all I want is my car back the way it was when I brought it. Then they changed it to $3400 I am very concerned about this and would like to understand why the vehicle was returned to me in this condition. I ask that you please review this issue and arrange for a prompt inspection and resolution — at no additional cost — as this may be related to the recent service or handling by your team. Please respond as soon as possible with next steps. I’d prefer to resolve this directly with your service department, but I will escalate the matter if necessary. POWER TRAIN
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the RPM increased quickly; however, the vehicle lost motive power, prompting the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. Upon arriving at the residence, the contact shifted the vehicle into park and released the brake pedal, and the vehicle started rolling forward. The contact engaged the parking brake to secure the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V470000 (Power Train); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 112,000.

ENGINE
I bought my q50 in 2020. In 2023 one of my turbo chargers began experiencing failure. This defect caused the car to drive in limp mode where it would not accelerate and caused a hazard to myself and other drivers on the road. The failure did not display any lights on my dash and I only came to know the component failed after the physical symptoms it presented and having it diagnosed by infinit. Infiniti has now issued an extended warranty for up to 120k miles on the part for owners with the defective turbos. The warranty letter also states that if owners previously replaced the part out of pocket they could seek reimbursement with proof of the repair and proof of ownership. I submitted my documents to Infiniti and they have since closed my case without reimbursement because they claim one of their associates made a mistake in beginning the claims process with me. I have attempted to continue to pursue reimbursement and Infiniti won’t return my calls. I know for certain my car and the turbo repairs qualify for this reimbursement. I believe Infiniti is attempting to work around officially recalling the cars impacted by the bad component and the warranty is being provided in its place however I also believe they are giving me such a hard time with this in hopes that I’ll just roll over and give up on the reimbursement

WHEELS, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, ENGINE
In October of 2023 I was driving onto the high way and my car just started to slow down I could not accelerate that gas while I was on the highway which is very dangerous when you are on the highway. My car turn off completely the engine light started to blink. All the lights were blinking. The only thing that was on was my radio. I could not move the car I was having. Trouble putting the car into park. Everything was stuck. Good thing I was not in the middle of the highway and not on a really busy highway but it was late at night. Drivers on the high way and myself are out at risk I could not even put my hazards on. A car could have crash into me and serious injury’s could have happen. I was stuck and was having trouble putting the car in park. Could not go into neutral. For a car to come to a sudden stop not be able to put the car in park that can be a risk factor due to if the car turn back on going into neutral on its own. The car was fixed with new engine at an auto body In July or August 2024 Now the engine light is on again the car will not even turn on. All the oil leaked out. Infiniti did my last oil change and said it was due at 117k which that is my current reading. When the oil all leaked out the car had a steering issue it crashed into a guardrail. That is the second time the car slow down had some type of issue is a big risk factor In August 2024 when the oil came out the car that can cause a fire and lost of steering the car crashed into rail with us in it. I did not have any warning signs about this going to happen. The car has not been driven since
